# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has come under fire following comments he made during a speech in Maryland, United States, where he claimed that about 99% of all the arrested kidnappers in the state are Igbos, not Fulani herdsmen.

The statement, made on July 7 during his U.S. visit, has drawn a sharp and damning response from the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), a human rights and advocacy group in Nigeria.

Speaking in Maryland, Governor Soludo claimed, “Out of 99.5% of those arrested by the government in various camps belonging to kidnappers across the state, none is a member of the killer herdsmen.”

He further dismissed security reports about Fulani herdsmen occupying forests in Anambra as “false narratives.”

In a rebuttal signed by the Intersociety Board Chairmen, Emeka Umeagbalasi, the group described the governor’s statement as “reckless,” “vexatious,” and “gravely endangering the security and safety of the State and her citizens.”

“The Governor is gravely endangering the security and safety of the State… especially their present and future safety,” part of the statement read.

# The Young Progressives Party (YPP), have intensified grassroots campaign with several engagements of various segments of the society, across party lines.

The YPP Deputy Governorship candidate, Uzu Okagbue while speaking in a meeting with former Anambra State Executive Council members who served during the tenure of the former governor, Mr. Peter Obi, between 2006 and 2014, acknowledged the relevance of the group, stating that the success of a leader is tied to the leader’s team.

This, Okagbue said, has placed onerous responsibilities on the former members of the Anambra Executive Council to actively rewrite the leadership trajectory in the State while they still can.

The meeting which was held in Awka-Etiti, at the home of Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, has been described by Uzu Okagbue as an” impactful engagement” steep in “deep thought, clarity of vision, institutional memory, and shared commitment to Anambra’s progress.”

# Anambra Police-led Security Force contained a shooting incident in the early hours of today 9th July 2025 at Oko and Ekwulobia flyover, Aguata Local Government Area.

The team also demobilised one of the armed criminals, recovered one AK-47 rifle, one automatic pump action gun and four vehicles at the scene as the Operatives sustained the onslaught operations in the area.

Anambra Police Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release stated that the vehicles recovered include one red Toyota Camry vehicle with Reg No: ENU 58 SC, custom colour GLK Mercedes Benz without a registration number, golden colour Lexus 330 with Reg No: ENU 815 AP and one ash Toyota Highlander with Reg No: GDD 517 RW.

“The Armed criminals unprovokedly shot indiscriminately under the Ekwulobia flyover. Consequently, in a swift response, the Joint Security Team engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel.

“Regrettably, the incident recorded the death of two unsuspecting members of the public and the burning of a brown Toyota Sienna vehicle allegedly belonging to the Anambra State Vigilante Group.

“Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been recovered and deposited in the morgue”. Ikenga stated.

# Members of Angel Network News (ANN) Chapel under the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Wednesday 9th July 2025 marked its first Anniversary.

Speaking during its monthly meeting, ANN Chapel Chairman, Mr. Bonvera Ndubisi commended the members for their dedication, commitment, thanking God for the success recorded so far.

In their separate speeches. Prof. Stella Okunna, NUJ Vice President, South East Zone, Sir Emmanuel Ifesinachi and ANN General Manager, Dr. Ifeanyi Obiefuna urged members of the Chapel to maintain the tempo.

In commoration of its one year anniversary, ANN Chapel paid a courtesy visit to Umuokpu Iron Dealers Market Awka, where it interacted with the executives and other traders.

During the visit, the traders emphasized on the importance of apprenticeship, calling on Anambra youths to shun the get rich quick syndrome. They commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his giant strides and for creating a conducive environment for business to strive in Anambra State.

# Njikoka Local Government has emerge 1st Position in the 2025 Cultural Exhibition Competition among the 21 LGA’s in Anambra State.

Njikoka emerged top at the event as part of activities marking the 2025 Local Government Service Week.

The award was officially presented to the Mayor of Njikoka, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, by the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Martin Obimbekwe, during a brief but joyful ceremony at the Council Secretariat, Abagana.

In addition to the cultural win, Mr. Obimbekwe also announced that Njikoka LGA was rated among the Top three Local Governments in Anambra State in terms of performance, coordination, and service delivery, an affirmation of the collective hard work of the council’s leadership and workforce.

Hon. Ononiba, in his remarks, dedicated both recognitions to the people of Njikoka and thanked the staff of the council for their continued loyalty and dedication.

The local government boss expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing the enabling environment that drives excellence at the grassroots.

The Mayor further reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining progressive development and promoting the cultural heritage of the people.

# Anambra First Lady, Dr. Nonye Soludo has urged citizens in the state to participate actively in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

Soludo’s wife passionate appeal comes as preparations intensify across 326 political wards in the state, ahead of Anambra gubernatorial election, which will hold on November 8, 2025.

In a statement released on July 8, 2025, Dr. Mrs. Soludo emphasized the importance of the voter registration exercise, describing it as a critical step for all eligible voters to secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

# Oko Divisional Police Headquarters, witnessed an attack, but the gallant Officers on duty repelled the assault by the armed criminals.

According to Police Spokesperson, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, no casualties were recorded as the aggressive pursuit by the Joint Security Team of the assailants continues in the area.

Adequate security measures have been put in place at the instance of the Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD. Residents are hereby urged to remain calm as efforts to ensure their safety continues unabated.

# The Mayor of Njikoka LGA, Hon. Chinedu Ononiba has inaugurated the Nimo Security Management and Finance Committee, alongside the formal launch of Agunechemba Nimo Unit 11.

The event, held in Nimo, attracted key stakeholders including the Divisional Police Officer, CPS Leelea Chuks, who praised the local government’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He described the initiative as a testament to the Mayor’s proactive and responsive leadership.

Also speaking, the Interim President-General of Nimo, Sir Fredrick Obodoeze, lauded the collaboration between the local government and the Nimo community, stressing that effective security requires collective effort.

# The Chairman of iron dealers Association, Umuokpu market Awka, Mr. Sunday Nnebe has urged Anambra youths to shun the get rich quick syndrome and embrace apprenticeship which is a system that has produced numerous millionaires.

The market leader while speaking with Angel Network News (ANN) in an exclusive interview in his office on Wednesday emphasized on dignity in labour.

“Youths should ignore the mindset of cutting corners and embrace apprenticeship and mentorship.

“Majority of the people in the market are sales persons. Youths of this days are not ready to submit to mentorship. The few of them that gave it a trial couldn’t endure to the end. It is really disturbing how the get rich quick syndrome has affected the system.

” There are many lessons learnt in apprentice. Its a school of thought and its obvious that promotion comes from God because every hustler has its pay day”. Nnebe submitted.
