* The Anambra State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has expressed shock and worry over the deplorable state of the only state-owned swimming pool which has been inhabited by dangerous reptiles and weeds. The swimming pool said to have cost the state government a whopping N100m was built for the 2020 police games hosted by Anambra State and since then it has not been put to use again.

* Anambra State House of Assembly on Tuesday 11th July held the first plenary after the inauguration of the 8th assembly on June 12. Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze in his speech welcome the lawmakers to their first sitting, urging them to brace up for the task ahead.

* The Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State has adjourned ruling on whether it has jurisdiction to hear a case of 28 year old Chinonso Agbasi accused of conspiring with others now at large to traffick and procure a 15 year old girl child (name withheld) from Isiagu, Awka South LGA of Anambra State to Alafia Street in Coker Area of Lagos State for Labour and sexual exploitations. In a seven-count charge brought before the court, the defendant was also accused of procuring abortion on the girl child after realizing that she was six weeks pregnant, as well as inflicting physical injuries on the victim.

* The Governor of Anambra state Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has appealed to the Federal Government to quickly intervene in the failed portion of the Onitsha-Owerri road which has been completely cut off by gully erosion. ANN reports that the ever busy Onitsha-Owerri road is a federal road that connects commuters from the Niger River Bridge to other parts of Anambra and South East states, as well as some parts of the South South states.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemil North Local Government Area, Anambra State Hon. Chuksbrown Igboañua has promised to synergize with all the traditional rulers in the council area to tackle insecurity and move the local government forward. Ignoanua while speaking during the meeting of ndi Igwe Idemili North held at Ogidi, the Council headquarters, reeled out his achievements such ast building of office blocks, bore holes, maintenance of roads, visit to schools to ascertain their successes and challenges among others.

* CP Aderemi Adeoye has assume duty as the 33rd Commissioner of Police in Anambra state.
ANN reports that sequel on the assumption of duty as the Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye paid a courtesy visit to the Anambra State Government House and was received by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim on behalf of His Excellency Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

* Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the commissioner of police and the commissioner for homeland affairs to increase security surveillance in Onitsha metropolise with special reference to Owerri road. The member representing Ogbaru One constituency Rt. Hon. Chukwunonso Nobel Igwe while using order 10: rule 44, moved the motion.

* The ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Anambra State has warned the senator representing Anambra South senatorial zone, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah, not to politicize security in the state, describing as improper the decision of the senator to set up parallel structures for fighting insecurity in all communities in the zone.
At a recent meeting with his constituents in Nnewi, Ubah, who was elected on the platform of Young Progressive Party, YPP, said that because of the activities of the factional leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Simon Ekpa, he would do everything humanly possible to secure the zone and end the Monday sit -at – home. However, the National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe described the senator’s pronouncement as laughable and mere propaganda.

* Miss Idimmachukwu, the Nnewi-born 9-year-old girl, who was maltreated and battered by her guardian, Mrs. Chinyere Ifesinachi, has been awarded a compensation sum of five hundred thousand naira (₦500,000) by the Anambra State Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court, sitting at the Chief Magistrate’s Court, Awka, the state’s capital. His Worship, Genevieve Osakwe who presided over the court, said the defendant, Mrs Ifesinachi went contrary to the Violence Against Persons, Prohibition and Protection, Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria, 2017, in the treatment she meted out to the little girl in Onitsha where they lived.
