* The Archbishop of Niger Province, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Dr Alexander Ibezim, has decried the politicisation of church, instead of concentration in winning souls for Christ. Addressing the Council of Laity of the Province at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha Anambra State, Most Rev. Ibezim who is also the Bishop of Awka Diocese said due to internal conflicts their pulpits have been turned into political pulpit.

* The Anambra State Football Association Chairman General Chikelue Iloenyosi has Congratulate Super Eagles and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi on his Contract Extension in the club till 2027.
Iloenyosi who is also Chairman Board of Trustee of All Nigeria Football Players Union wishes Ndidi well and commend him of his steadfast and disciplined nature, also his Commitment to the Super Eagles.The General also prayed for the
Leicester City midfielder to have a successful upcoming season in the English Premier League and urged him to keep working hard.

* Anambra State Government says its attention has been drawn to unauthorized and illegal mining activities at various sites across the State. Squeal to this, the Government has directed immediate suspension of Mining activities in Anambra State till further notice. This is contained in a letter written and signed by the Anambra State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje to the Chairman, Miners Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Branch; and a Public Notice jointly signed by Barrister Anthony Ifeanya, Commissioner for Petroleum and Solid Minerals, Dr. Felix Odimegwu, Commissioner for Environment; Professor Charles Ofoegbu, Managing Director, Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited.

* The traditional ruler of Urum Community, Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra State, Igwe B.O Nweke has appointed new Management Community for the kindred. The new land management committee members are: Prince George Okafor (Chairman), ⁠Mr. Samuel Okoye (Secretary). Members are; Mr. Peter Okafor, Mr. Livinus Okafor, Mr. Emeka Ozoekwe, Mr. Godwin Okafor, Mr. Onyebuchi Nwafor, ⁠Mr. Obiorah Nwoye, Chief Alexander Nwafor and Mr. Azubuike Okafor. * Following the recent Supreme Court’s judgement, granting financial autonomy to the Local Governments, a professor of Environmental Law, Maritime Law, Biodiversity, and Climate Change, Professor Theodore Okonkwo says Anambra State will not falter on the implementation. In an interview with newsmen in Awka, the legal luminary said the state under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo will comply with the court ruling.

* The President-General of Oko Peoples Union in Orumba North Local Government Area, Barr. Casmir Nwafor has called on the International Community, Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
and Anambra State Governments to come to their aid with a view to solving the age-long erosion menace which has continued to ravage the community.
Speaking to newsmen at the scene of a collapsed one story building at Eziabor Village in Oko due to erosion menace, Bar. Nwafor noted that though no life was lost, many people have been rendered homeless and property worth millions of Naira destroyed. The Oko Community Town Union President-General called on the International Donor Agencies, Federal Emergency Management Agency, State Emergency Management Agency as well as Charitable Organizations to come to their rescue.

* The Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam says efforts are ongoing to arrest the assailants and rescue the victims of the abduction on Saturday 13th July 2024.

The CP charges the Command tactical teams deployed to complement the Joint Security team to redouble their efforts to deprive the hoodlums of the space they desire so much to perpetrate their evil acts and vows that the Police Command shall leave no stone unturned in hunting down the assailants In a release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command stated that the Police responding team recovered the abandoned victim’s vehicle, and joint security measures, personnel positioning are already in place to forestall such related incident in the State.

* Babatem Anambra State All Stars Game 2024 has officially kick off on Sunday 14th July at the Awka City Stadium. The opening game was between Anambra State All Stars Club Onitsha against Obosi All Stars. The defending champions, Anambra State All Stars Club Onitsha score first from a brilliant strike by Chijoke Onyekwulunne, before the Obosi All Stars equalized few minites before the half time through skillful Arinze Chukwurah. Obosi All Stars took the led in the first minutes of the second half as Chukwurah scored again in a highly entertaining and competitive football game as the match ended 2:1 in favour of the Obosi based football team.

* Ahead of the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election, a two-time Idemili North and South Federal Constituency seat aspirant, Prof Theodore Okonkwo has called on politicians in the state, planning to disrupt the zoning arrangement prevailing in the state, to withdraw. In his opinion, such ambition does not mean well for the peace and stability of the state.

* The Edozie Njoku-led All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) says it has put an end to its long-standing internal crisis.
Speaking to journalists at the weekend, Njoku announced that he had reconciled with Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, the only governor elected on the APGA platform. Njoku, who was recently recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s national chairman, emphasized that the rift between him and Soludo had been resolved. He said, ”We are in a reconciliatory phase. Reconciliation requires humility, and we are committed to it. The struggle and crisis within APGA are now over. The chairman appealed to the media to avoid exacerbating tensions within the party, stressing the importance of peace and unity moving forward.
“Let’s not overheat the polity in APGA,” he urged. Asked about the fate of the immediate past APGA chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa, Njoku said,” I have reconciled with Soludo. The war is over ” With this development, it appears that the party’s internal conflicts have been laid to rest, paving the way for a more united and focused APGA.
