* Police at Neni in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State have intercepted an armed robbery gang that snatched a Tricycle from the owner in Agu-Awka on Saturday night. ANN gathered that the gang was smashed following information received from the Police in Awka that the gang was fleeing towards Anaocha LGA.
* The Anambra state cordinator for National Youth Service Corps Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma has called on the government of Anambra state to intervene on the encroching gully erosion menace revaging the orientation camp. Iruma made the appeal during the swearing-in ceremony of ‘Batch B stream one orientation camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu in Awka South LGA.
* Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze have held 34th and 12th joint matriculation ceremony for National Certificate of Examination, NCE, degree and Professional Diploma in Education students, 2022/2023 academic session. Speaking to the new matriculants, the Provost of the College, Dr. Theresa Okoli, said the college is always laying strong emphasis and providing necessary academic support for students in the pursuit of their career.
* A middle aged house boy from Abakaliki in Ebonyi state has murdered a young lecturer Mr. Chima working as technologist with Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. ANN gathered that the lecturer who belongs to Pshychology department was murdered after a brief argument with his house boy which led to a fight between the two.
* The Archbishop, Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim says good character, morals and lifestyle are the necessary virtues to live a successful life. Ibezim who is the Bishop of Awka Anglican Diocess, stated this at St Paul’s University Secondary School, Nibo-Nise during the Valedictory Service and Prize Giving Ceremony for the 2023 class of the school.
*Six suspects have been apprehended for allegedly gang raping a 19 years old girl in Anam, Anambra West LGA. The suspects were said to have carried out the act after ambushing and forcing the victim into a room where they took turns to defile her.
* The National Association of Nigeria Drug Monitoring, Anambra state chapter has been Inaugurated in Awka. The Inauguration which was performed by the Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on Drug and Narcotics attracted relevant stakeholders from within and outside the state.
* The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command, CP Aderemi Adeoye has paid courtesy visits to Heads of some Security Agencies in the State. ANN reports that Adeoye during the weekend, visited Department of State Services (DSS); Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and National Drug Laws Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) all in Awka the state capital.
* It was a moment of grief and sober reflection for staff and management of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, as the body of one of its staff, Mr. Ikechukwu Anachina was brought to the station for a brief stop over and commendation service. Anachina who until his death was a staff of the Engineering Department of the organization died after protracted illness at the age of forty-three, living behind a young family.
* Men of Anambra State Police Command Operatives attached to Abagana Division, on Saturday 15th July rescued an aged woman being cruelly treated by another woman at Umudunu village, Abagana. The suspect Ukamaka Udeugbo ‘F’ aged 50 years, turned out to be her biological daughter in a video clip that went viral. The suspect who flogged the naked aged woman repeatedly and threw buckets of water on her while lying on the floor has been arrested and detained for prosecution.
* Anambra State Government has begun verification exercise for staff of the defunct Anambra State Water Corporation and Anambra State Environmental Protection Agency, ANSEPA.
The ten-day exercise holding at Anambra State Water Asset Holdings Corporation Headquarters, Amudo Awka, is geared to ascertain genuineness of staff of the Water Corporation, revitalize water sector in the state for sustainable management scheme and resolve the age-long dispute between staff of the defunct Anambra water corporation and the state government.
* Indigenes of Umueri community in Anambra-East Local Government Area of Anambra State have in one united voice declared that no evil plot and malignant tendencies against President-General of the community, Chief Johnny Metchie will come to fruition. Indigenes of the community who spoke in defence said Metchie is a good man by all standards being the only PG in the history of Umueri General Assembly to render quarterly accounts of income and expenditures to the people.
