* Anambra State has expressed strong commitment to partnering the federal government to adequately provide for the health needs of its citizens especially the poor, the down-trodden and the forgotten.
Prof. Chukwuma Soludo stated this when the Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate paid a courtesy call on him at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia. Soludo while appreciating the Health Minister for the great job he is doing, especially for recognizing that human capital is a critical part of development, to which health is the nucleus, assured to continue partnering the federal government in prioritizing primary healthcare provision for ndị Anambra.

* The President General of Uruagu Chief Innocent Okoli, that of Umudim, Chief Uzochukwu Anyadiegwu and Elder Sorge Egbuna of Nnewichi have resolved to pull out of the town union body of Nnewi Community, Nzuko-Ora. The recent call for autonomy of Uruagu, Umudim, and Nnewichi became prominent following the recent letter written to the Traditional Ruler of Uruagu Nnewi, His Highness, Obi Afamefuna Charles Obi (Ogidi IV), by Anambra State Ministry of Chiefiancy and Local Government Affairs, to refrain from attaching ‘His Highness’ to his name and also to stop conferment of Chieftiancy title.

* The wife of the governor of Anambra State and founder of the non-governmental crusade, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has disclosed that her free seeds programme could continue beyond the current July 31st date. Mrs Soludo who stated this in Awka while discussing the impact of the project, explained that with the growing interest by so many people who want to benefit from the programme, it has become necessary to extend the deadline to cover more people.

* The Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Chukwuka Ndubuisi Obi, has withdrawn the ordination license of Rev. Agoziem Isreal Okafor. Rev. Okafor, resigned as a priest of the Diocese due to irreconcilable differences with the Diocese. Bishop Obi who announced that the Priest has been dismissed, warned members of the church who might want to do business with Rev. Okafor to be aware that he is no longer accountable to the Diocese and the Anglican Church.

* Presidents-General in Anambra State have been charged to be ambassadors of positive change, peace and unity in their various communities and local governments areas. The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Comrade ThankGod Anago gave this charge when he received the new President-General of Awba-Ofemili Development Union, (ADU) Hon. Chukwunedum Mebene in his office in Achalla, the headquarters of the council area. The new President-General and some members of his team were in his office to officially present his certificate of recognition by the State government.

* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Anambra State Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources have pledged to enhance their collaboration and rid the state of illegal miners and perpetrators of illegalities in the petroleum sector. This partnership was cemented when Comdt. Maku Olatunde, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, paid a familiarization visit to Barr. Anthony Ifeanya, the Anambra State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources. During the meeting, Comdt. Maku and Commissioner Ifeanya discussed strategies for enhancing security and enforcement in the petroleum and mineral resources sector.

* Peace FC of Awka, Anambra State will on Saturday, 20th July 2024 officially launch and unveil their new sets of Jerseys for the 2024/2025 football season. This disclosure was made by the Chairman of the Club, Ifunanya Nwangwu during an interview with sports writers at the Awka City Stadium on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the 2024 Babatem All Stars Football Competition.

Nwangwu informed that the launching and unveiling ceremony of the new sets of jersey will herald their first match in Group B against Puma All Stars Army Barracks FC Onitsha at the ongoing Babatem All Stars Football Competition.

* Chekwas Okorie, the founder and pioneer National Chairman of (APGA), has raised alarm over boasts by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra, that he had procured a commitment from President Bola Tinubu to have the supreme court reverse itself on the judgment on the protracted leadership tussle of the party. Addressing media practitioners at the NUJ press centre in Abuja, Okorie said: “It is a common knowledge and a fact of the record of the Supreme Court of Nigeria that Chief Edozie Njoku and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) elected at the National Convention of the Party on 31st May, 2019, at Owerri, Imo State were the authentic leadership of the party”. The APGA founder further accused Soludo of funding the crisis in the party.

* Mrs. Adachukwu Okafor, a 35 years lawyer who is accused of brutalizing her house help in Onitsha, has pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge brought against her at the Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Court in Awka by the Anambra State Government. On January 2024, Mrs. Adachukwu Okafor a mother, was accused of willfully and unlawfully inflicting physical injuries on 11 year-old Happiness Nwafor with cane, hot electric iron and hot kitchen knife, offence contrary to section 4(1) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition and Protection, VAPP, Law 2017. Mrs. Okafor was also accused of inflicting grievous harm on Miss Nwafor, offence contrary to section 290 of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Volume II Revised Laws of Anambra State, 1991. Also brought against the defendant is alleged deprivation of Miss Nwafor’s’ liberty by detaining her inside toilet without food and water; while tying her two legs, hands and mouth with clothes, offence contrary to section 12(1) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition and Protection Law 2017.

* In his bid to cue into the healthy living programme of the Anambra State Government’s initiatives, the Chairman of New Auto Spare Parts Market, Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, Chief Stephen Ofoleh, has fumigated the market against outbreak of cholera and other diseases. Prior to the commencement of the fumigation, Chief Ofoleh revealed that the initiative was prompted by a directive from the Special Adviser to Governor Charles Soludo on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, conveyed through the President General of Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders’ Association (ASMATA), Chief Humphrey Anuna. He noted that the directive mandated the negotiation with the state Ministry of Agriculture’s veterinary services to fumigate the markets, in response to the growing concern about diseases like cholera.
