* Anambra Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche
says it has conducted pre-impact assessment on flood prone communities ahead of the 2024 flooding. Speaking in an interview in Awka on the government’s preparedness, Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche who expressed happiness over the water level of the council areas visited, revealed that the present administration understands the topography of the areas during rainy season which regularly cuts off the communities from each other, as roads being constructed in the areas are designed to stand the test of time. She pointing out that the pre-impact assessment visit was as regard to complaints received from residents of the flood-prone communities in the state over late arrival of palliatives and accommodation and promised that the state government will ensure early arrivals of intervention this year.

* Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has been described as a prudent resource manager and efficient administrator who would always want to achieve more and the best with less. The State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka gave the description recently in Awka shortly after receiving an honour awarded to his Ministry by the Anambra State Accounting Staff Association (ASASA), as the Best Performing Ministry in Transparency and Accountability in Anambra.

* It was a euphoric atmosphere in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State when the Nze na Ozo Uruowulu Society initiated the President General of the community, Barr. Chimezie Obi Ajeh into the prestigious society. The honour, they said, was in recognition of Barrister Ajeh’s numerous efforts in promoting peace and security, development and youth empowerment in the community. Performing the initiation rite, the Head of Nze Ikewelugo of the Ebunam sub-family of Umunnagbe kindred, Uruowulu Obosi, Chief Ujuboñu Uyenu stated that the society is founded on truth and exemplary lifestyle.

* The Anambra State Commissioner For Economic Planning and Budgets, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake says the Governor Chukwuma Soludo adminstration strictly adheres to stakeholder opinion in budgeting and implementation. The Commissioner stated this at Nibo, Awka South Council Area during a United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF programme tagged “South East Zonal Policy Dialogue on Social Budgeting for Child-Sensitive Sectors”. Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Nnake noted that the Anambra state government before and after budgeting, has continued to implement children-centred policies in the state ranging from free antenatal services, mother and child to health care and free education from nursery schools to Junior Secondary School Class three.

* Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) batch B stream one posted to Anambra West LGA, have been advised to be patriotic and dedicated to their duties. The new Transition Committee Chairman in the area Hon. Fidelis Nnazor made this remarks during the reception ceremony organised for the newly posted corp members at the council Secretariat, Nzam. The Mayor of the Council in his brief speech reminded the NYSC members that the National Youth Service program was consciously initiated by our fathers for national integration, stressing that they will try to avail themselves of the opportunities through their solid personal achievements.

* The Chief Medical Director Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Anambra State, Prof. Joseph Ugboaja has requested that the Federal Government employs additional One thousand (1,000) medical staff to fill up the workforce needed to enhance healthcare services and delivery in the facility. Prof. Ugboaja made the request at the NAUTH Permanent Site when the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate came for the commissioning of the newly completed GOPD, medical ward complex, MOP and other buildings named after Sir Emeka Offor, Chief Cletus Ibeto, and some founding Members of NAUTH.

Presenting his address, the CMD after appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his massive investment in the health sector and the Health Minister for his direct involvement in ensuring that NAUTH gets the best and state of the art equipments and infrastructure pleaded for recruitment of about 1000 medical staff to ensure adequate manpower to provide needed healthcare delivery and services in the facility.

* Residents of Anambra State have been charged to always protect and take full ownership of government property in their areas, to shield them from vandals. This formed the focus of discussion at a one-day stakeholders interaction on the ongoing rehabilitation of the Obizi Spring Water Scheme, held recently at Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Headquarters, organized by the Anambra State Ministry of Power and Water Resources, in collaboration with the Anambra State Urban Water Asset Holdings Corporation (ASUWAHC),

* Concerned citizens of Umuoji in Idemili North Council Area has called the attention of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, to as a matter of urgency, to come and reinstall a High Tension Pole along Umuoji road precisely in front of Edwin Anyakorah Compound, Amorji-Umuoji which is about to fall. A shop owner along the axis, Mr. Vincent Okoye told newsmen that the High Tension Pole has been in that state for almost two months now and that EEDC officials sometime, came and assessed it, but no action has been taken to restore the pole. Mr Okoye said that the High Tension Pole which pulled from the ground, if not urgently attended to will affect not less than 20 High Tension Poles along the Nkpor-Umuoji road when it falls which will pose danger to commuters and the community as well, warning that the constant rainfall is gradually pulling the High Tension Pole too.

* An Onitsha-based human right lawyer, Obumneme Eze, has said that the latest judgment by the Supreme Court on the country’s Local Governments would bring sanity to the system. Speaking in an interview with newsmen, the legal practitioner said the Governors abused powers confered on the States by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to have joint accounts with the local governments in each of the respective states. He said the Governors hijacked the money for themselves and compelled the Local Governments to give them a kind of authorisation, which was a clear violation of the 1999 constitution.

* Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Health has distributed 150 Oxygen cylinders and their accessories to public, faith-based and private hospitals across the State. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike while peforming the function in Awka, said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is committed to improving the healthcare system in the state. The Health Commissioner noted the in 2023 the State government supported the Ministry to train Faith-based, government and Private hospitals healthcare workers on oxygen use.
