# In a significant political development, Nze Kinsley Akpuaka has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abba Ward 2, Njikoka Local Government Area. The defection was formalized during a joint meeting of APGA stakeholders from Abba Wards 1 and 2, presided over by Comrade Osondu Ozumba, a former Ward 1 Chairman and current state official of the party.
The event was graced by the Mayor of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, who warmly welcomed Nze Akpuaka into the APGA fold.
In his remarks, Nze Akpuaka expressed unwavering support for Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election, describing it as “sacrosanct.” He emphasized his commitment to contributing to the party’s success in the upcoming elections.
# The Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) has intensified its public sensitisation campaign across Awka, urging residents to seize the final opportunity to get registered.
ANCISRO team, led by Managing Director, Sir. Chuka Nnabuife, while monitoring the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, visited major registration centers including Demonstration Primary School, Commissioners’ Quarters, and Udeozo Primary School, where registration was observed to be slow but steady.
Residents at both centers appealed to INEC for an extension of the exercise and for more registration centers, lamenting the stress of having only one location in each ward.
The ANCISRO team further took the campaign to Ring Road Agu-Awka, Nkwo Amaenyi Market, Ziks Avenue, Eke Awka Market, Works Road, Dike Park, Kwata Market, Unizik Junction, and Aroma Junction, engaging the public directly on the importance of voter registration.
# The leader of the Labour Party caucus of the Anambra State 8th legislature and member representing Onitsha-South 2 state constituency Hon. Jude Umennajiego has stressed the urgent need for justice, equity and good conscience to prevail in the forthcoming August 16th bye-elections in Onitsha-North 1 state constituency.
Umennajiego who recalled that late Justice Azuka Udemezue was gruesomely murdered in cold blood while in active service in spite of claims of safety and security of lives and property in the state by the present administration, maintained that it will only be fair and just, should the wife continue from where her late husband stopped till 2027.
Until his painful death in the hands of his abductors, Umennajiego stated that the departed lawmaker was not only loved and held so dearly by the people of Onitsha-North 1 constituency but the entire Onitsha metropolitan city where the late lawmaker had touched lives in the most remarkable manner.
# President of Anambra Tipper Drivers Association, Mr. Akaigwe Augustine has expressed readiness to collaborate with the government in tackling persistent harassment of tipper drivers.
Speaking during a meeting with the executives of the Tipper Drivers Union comprising 74 members at the Idemili North Secretariat, the President criticized the tendency of security agents to punish drivers rather than hold pit owners accountable.
In his remark, the Chairman of the Onitsha Tipper Drivers, Mr. Ebuka Unekwe also expressed concerns about the intimidation they face from a group known as “Ndi Aka Odo” at the Oba sandpit.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Tipper Drivers Board of Trustees (BoT), Comrade Ogechukwu Ndozie, highlighted systemic issues facing members, calling on Mayor Nkwoka to help the union understand the government’s position and how to address their problems effectively.
The Chairman Idemili North Local Government Area, Chief Stanley Nkwoka while reacting, described tipper drivers as among the most peaceful and organized transport groups in Nigeria.
# The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State by three additional days.
The exercise scheduled to end Thursday, July 17, 2025, will now continue until Sunday, July 20, 2025.
This decision was made during the Commission’s weekly meeting held on Thursday at the INEC Headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement signed by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the extension was granted in response to appeals from citizens and stakeholders who requested more time to complete their registration.
# The Chairman of Idemili North LGA, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka has agreed on a strategic partnership with tipper drivers across Anambra state to support Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election campaign.
Speaking during a meeting with the executives of the Tipper Drivers Union comprising 74 members at the Idemili North Secretariat, Nkwoka urged the drivers to unite and speak with one voice to effectively engage with the government and resolve longstanding issues facing the union, particularly extortion and harassment.
The Mayor noted that Soludo’s victory in the November 8 gubernatorial election is almost certain and advised opposition candidates from wasting their resources.
The local government boss who is also a former tipper driver, said his appointment as Mayor was a testament to Governor Soludo’s commitment to inclusivity.
# The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba S’aid Ahmad has task Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka to lead the campaign against sexual harassment in tertiary institutions across the country.
The Minister made the call during the maiden symposium tagged “UNIZIK declares war against Sexual Harassment/Assault, organized by the University’s Sexual Harassment/Assault Committee.
Ahmad represented by Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Prof Theresa Okoli submitted that sexual harassment in schools and higher institutions is a gross violation of human dignity.

The Anambra State Football League is set to kick off on August 24, 2025, with the opening match scheduled to take place at the Awka City Stadium.

Okagbue maintained that what Anambra State needs was leader who knows and cares about the people. A team of leaders who would cater for the needs of the people.
