* Governor of Anambra state Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has called on Christians to combine efforts with the state government to enthrone a better society. Soludo made the call during a funeral service for the late Archbishop Maxwell Anikwenwa, at St Faith Cathedral Church, Awka.
Soludo, represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, described the legacies of the late pioneer Bishop of Awka Diocese, former Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and one time Dean of the church of Nigeria, the late Most Reverend Anikwenwa as legion

* Oganiru Umunri has held its 2023 “Umunri Cultural Fiesta” geared towards promoting the rich cultural heritage of Nri dynasty. The event which took place in Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area attracted members of the communities that make up the Nri dynasty both at home and in the diaspora to ensure the success of the programme. It was thrilling as students and youths competed in a debate in Igbo language and proverbs.

* Wife of the Governor of Anambra state Mrs Nonye Soludo called for the involvement of all health facilities in the ongoing maternal newborn child health week stating that it will give maximum boost to the programme and help achieve the intended goals faster. The Anambra first lady reassured that the primary vision of her husband’s administration’s health policies is to give everyone living in the state effective, accessible and affordable health care opportunities, stating that Anambra State is keenly pursuing key roadmaps to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

* Anambra State Government has distances itself from some awards being promoted by some groups or NGOs with a bogus caption as “ANAMBRA Awards” which it noted confuses or deceives the public. A release signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Christian Aburime said the “awards “ are scheduled to hold on 1st July, 2023 at the Stanel Event Centre, Awka and disclosed that the Government has received several calls from unsuspecting persons who assume that the Government is involved in the “awards”.

* Ndi Umudim Nnewi, in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State have pleaded for the urgent intervention of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, as erosion gully eats up a major access road in the town. ANN gathered that the said road, which used to be one of the busiest roads in Nnewi, is located at the Umuezena, Umudim Nnewi. It was also gathered that the road now records a very low usage, as motorists have resorted to using other alternative (though longer) routes in the area, than exposing themselves to risk by using that which has been described as a death trap.

* The Chairman Anambra State Local Government Service Commission Barrister Vin Ezeaka has called for promotion of transparency and accountability in local government system.
Speaking in Awka at a capacity building programme for the Internal Auditors of the Unified Local Government Councils Barrister Ezeaka said this will help accelerate positive reform programmes aimed at improving the productive capacity of Local Government Councils and revived the productive instincts of Local government council workers towards adopting new skills for improved performance to reflect the current realities in the system.

* Anambra state Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has called for unity of purpose amongst Christians in the state irrespective of denomination. Ibezim made the call at St Michael and All Angels’ Anglican Church Ivite Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, during thanksgiving service for the first session of the fifth synod of the Anglican Diocese of Niger West with the theme, “In This Sign, Conquer”. Deputy Governor Ibezim who emphasized the need for Christians to form a formidable front, pointed out that it is high time they came together and help in rebuilding the crumbling society in the interest of all.

* The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze, said that Anglican Communion Worldwide has lost one of its outstanding Prelates, the late Most Reverend Maxwell Anikwenwa.Speaking at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka, during a burial service for the late Most Rev Anikwenwa, Udeze, described him as a religious Iroko, who gave his best for the service of God and humanity as well as the sanctity of his Archiepiscopacy in Nigeria and beyond.

* CP Aderemi Olufemi Adeoye has been appointed the new Commissioner of Police for Anambra State. This was disclosed in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Police Service Commission, Ikechukwu Ani. SaFollowing the appointment, CP Adeoye would be replacing the immediate-past Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Echeng Echeng, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
