* Immediate past Secretary-General of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Dr. Jide Onyekwelu has advised medical doctors to discharge their duties to the society with humility, love for humanity and fear of God. Onyekwelu gave the advice during the grand reception organised for him by NMA, Anambra Chapter during the ongoing Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting in Onitsha. Dr. Onyekwelu also announced his retirement from active NMA politics saying he would no longer run for any position but sit back and play advisory role to younger ones
* The Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Patrick Agha Mba has described the 1 Youth 2 Skills programme as the most innovative and comprehensive approach to solving the problem of unemployment and youth restiveness in the state. Mr. Agha Mba, who was addressing the 1 Youth 2 Skills phase two master trainers in Awka during their capacity building training expressed confidence that the state will record impactful economic growth through the programme. He appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his commitment to the development of youths of Anambra State and encouraged the master trainers to prioritize service delivery for the good of the state.
* The governing council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has appointed Prof Carol Umobi as as acting vice chancellor. The council during its meeting on Saturday July 20th at the council Chambers removed acting vice chancellor, Prof Joe Ikechebelu who has been acting vice chancellor for a little less than two months, after taking over from outgone Vice Chancellor, Prof Charles Esimone. A letter from the governing council of the university, which was signed by the chairman, Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe congratulated Umobi on the appointment.
* Justice J.I. Nweze of Anambra State High Court sitting in Onitsha has adjourned the case of defamation of character against an Onitsha trader, Ifechukwu Anozie to October 4, 2024. The case was brought by the Chairman of three-man caretaker Committee of Electronics Market Dealers, Onitsha, Anambra State, Mr. Donatus Obi against Anozie. Obi’s lawyer, Chinyere Dunku, Esq, in their claim had alleged that Anozie defamed her client by posting his recorded voice in their common Market whatsapp platform.
* The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter has commiserates with the national president of the Association, Benjamin Isaiah over the demise of his mother, Mrs Agnes Isaiah who died on July 17 in Minna, at the age of 78. Chairman of SWAN Anambra Chapter Comrade Chimezie Anaso, in a condolence letter made available on Sunday said the chapter received news of the death of Ma Agnes with sadness and shock. The chapter expressed deep sympathy with the president who lost his father just nine months ago.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Pauly Onyeka has inspected on-going construction works at Urban Boys Secondary School, Fegge Onitsha as well as the ongoing construction work at a Specialist Hospital in Fegge, all in Onitsha South Local Government Area. Speaking shortly after the inspection, Hon. Onyeka who was accompanied by senior members of the ministry, said that the essence of the visit was to see things for himself, and know how the contractor handling the project is abiding by the specifications of the contract. Onyeka made it clear that he was satisfied with what the contractor has done so far, but added that a few areas where they made observations, they have mandated the contractor to correct them as quickly as possible, as Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration will not tolerate any work that is not up to the standards.
* The National President, Congress of Nigerian Gospel Ministers Incorporated, His Eminence, Most Rev Philip Okpanwa Akam, has stated that his members across the 36 states in Nigeria will not be joining the planned nationwide protest against hunger and economic hardship, set to commence August 2024. Rev.
Akam described members of his Congress as genuine Ministers of God who are peaceful and law-abiding citizens, asserting that they have no adequate reasons to participate in the organized protest against the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Akam who is also the Primate, Christ The Light Gospel Mission Incorporated made the position of the Congress known to journalists shortly after meeting with the Anambra State Chapter of the Congress in Amawbia-Awka, at the weekend.
* Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo has surpassed the earlier 500-person target she set for her ongoing free organic seeds programme in the state. The governor’s wife released 131 names of beneficiaries for the fourth batch of the programme, bringing the total of beneficiaries so far to 587. Since a total of 59 persons indicated interest in the free seeds for the first batch of the programme which was announced on July 7, 2024, the numbers have continued to skyrocket, with as many as 179 persons taking interest in the seeds in the second announcement by the governor’s wife.
* Nnewi Corporate Football Tournament Season 2, sponsored by The Moonshine Residence, will officially kick off on July 21st and will last till September 1st, 2024.
The event will attract eight prominent companies in a fun-filled and competitive football tournament. Companies participating in the tournament include Tummy Tummy, Inoson Motors, Chicason, Afro Asia, The Moonshine Club, EEDC Nnewi Operations, EEDC Nnewi Commercial and The Moonshine Staff club.
* The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese Right Rev. Samuel Ezeofor says any mortal who loves earthly things is an enemy of God. In a sermon at St James Parish Uga in Aguata local government area, during a service of confirmation and admission into Mothers Union, Girls Guild and Anglican Mens fellowship for all the parishes under Uga Archdeaconry Right Reverend Ezeofor cautioned Christians against having undue quest for materialism and other things that are not glorifying God reminding them to always live lives that will earn them eternity. Ezeofor said that the position one occupies in the society, the kind of food one eats, and the clothes one wears, among other things, are not a visa to heaven and charged Christians to work towards bringing the needed transformation in the society.
* Former 2021 governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party PDP, in Anambra State Mr. Valentine Ozigbo on Saturday July 20th celebrated his 54th birthday with widows in Awka. In his Speech, Ozigbo explained that the essence of the 54th birthday celebration was to thank God for sustaining his life and family over the years and not for the sake of political campaign. Ozigbo said he was happy and privileged to be in the midst of the widows cut across the 21 local government areas of the State, who gathered to celebrate with him. He charged the widows to continue to pray for peace and progress of Anambra and Nigeria as a whole.
