* The Bishop of Awka Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, ordained eight Catholic priests. The newly ordained priests are; Paul Akabogu, Elias Obikwelu, Victor Ejie, Damian Chibueze, Anthony Okoyeatu, Paschal Omaha, Lawrence Akwuba, and Kingsley Igboanugo. In a homily, Bishop Ezeokafor described priesthood as a special vocation meant for those who are prepared to serve God and humanity. The Catholic Bishop charged the priests to keep the vows they made before God and church by living the life of chastity, poverty and obedience to the word of God and the teachings of the church.

* Rotary International, Onitsha Metropolis  has presented some household items to government health care centre in Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area as part of activities lined up to mark this year’s maternal and Child Health Project. The President of the club , Rtn Oby Arinze and other members distributed the items which included Insecticide treated nets, Pampers, Soaps, Multivitamins among others to Pregnant mothers, nursing mothers and their babies.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has inaugurated the distribution of one million and forty cash crops across Anambra state. Soludo in his speech at the event held at the Achebe Stadium, Fegge, Onitsha South LGA, acknowledged that in the future, Anambra will be a land driven by industrialization and commerce, pointing out that his administration is making steady progress on all the five pillars of development of his government. Among the cash crops currently being distributed through the 326 political wards through the Umunna system are seven hundred thousand palm seedlings, two hundred thousand ukwa seedlings, fifty thousand bitter kola and forty thousand paw-paw seedlings.

* Students of College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Okofia, Otolo Nnewi campus has called government of Anambra state led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to create time to personally visit the area for personal assessment of what they pass through daily. The students lament the deplorable state of the roads leading to the institution, which, according to them, has perennially, caused untold hardship over the past decade. Residents; motorists and commuters from the various parts of the area, have also groan stating that the hardship being faced is not deserving.

* Investment in education has been described as the greatest legacy that could be bequeathed to the younger generation by leaders. The submission was highlighted by a philanthropist Chief Okwudili Ugochukwu as he sponsored the maiden edition of the inter-sinter-school quiz competition for secondary schools in Nnobi, Idemili South LGA. The quiz competition organized by the Nnobi Youth Graduate Forum under the umbrella of the Association of Nnobi Youths was aimed at promoting academic Excellence, teamwork, and healthy Competition among the secondary schools in Nnobi.

* Anambra State government through men of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra popularly known as Ocha Brigade recorded another huge success in their efforts to control street trading in the commercial city of Onitsha. They stormed street traders operating at Owerri road by-pass opposite Ogbaru Main Market near anti tout office in Onitsha.
During the exercise, the operatives also chased away buses that were loading under the flyover where traders were chased away at Upper Iweka behind anti tout office. The enforcement team of Ocha Brigade led by the unit coordinator of the area, Mr. Ejike Odife braved the rain and stormed the traders chasing them away with their wares.

* Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has called on the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Anambra State Chapter to assist the government in the fight against quackery in the health sector. Soludo represented by the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike made the call during the 2024 Scientific Conference of the Association which held at the NMA House, Federal Medical Centre Onitsha. Dr.

Obidike said the state government have closed down over 30 health facilities headed by non doctors, pointing out innocent citizens lose their lives in the hands of fake doctors.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze says Governor Chukwuma Soludo has succeeded in boosting the agricultural sector in the State through various reforms and empowerments. Speaking on Soludo’s launching of the distribution of over one million economic tree seedlings to ndi Anambra in Onitsha, Udeze described the Governor’s efforts in promoting agriculture as a deliberate strategy to boost food production in the State.

* Onitsha based legal practitioner, Ejiofo Umegbogu, has expressed fear that the Supreme Court ruling on the Local Government autonomy would trigger-off constitutional crisis. He said the only way out of the impending logjam is for the National and State Assemblies to ensure speedy amendment of the 1999 Constitution. The lawyer advocated the abolition of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECs) through constitutional amendment to allow INEC conduct election for the Local Governments in the country to produce democratic leaderships at the grassroot.

* Anambra government has paraded over 25 persons including drivers, loaders and site owners for engaging in illegal mining activities in the state. The suspects were paraded at the headquarters of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade in Awka. Parading the suspects, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere said that there is no going back on the ban on illegal mining in the state. Anere said the ban is a critical way of mitigating the increasing number of erosion sites in the state which is caused by environmental degradation.
