* Chairman of Anambra State Football Association and former Super Eagles defender, Chikelue Iloenyosi, has sent out a message of felicitation to the newly elected President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Adam Osigwe, SAN.

Iloenyosi, said Osigwe’s elevation to the status of NBA President, was well ‘deserved’, given his experience in the legal business. He prayed for the new NBA boss to enjoy a ‘pleasantly joyful and successful’ reign.

* The Chief Medical Director of  Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, University Teaching Hospital, Awka, Dr. Joe Akabuike has received an accreditation team from the West African College Of Surgeons. The team were in the hospital for the re-accreditation of the Department Of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the hospital. The team which has Prof. Patrick Daru as the Leader will analyze the hospital’s level of upgrade as it concerns Medical Service delivery, especially in the department of Obsterics and Gynaecology. Prof. Daru of the University of Jos Teaching Hospital, in his speech, said that their visit was purely to look into the hospital’s facilities in order to ascertain the hospitals input as it concerns the Modern Medical Service delivery and also to know the hospitals preparedness to train resident doctors in the department. 

* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor has commended the Federal Government for increasing the minimum wage of workers to seventy thousand naira (70,000) after series of meetings with the Organised Labour. Bishop Ezeokafor while speaking with journalists in Awka, urged the Federal Government to cut down the cost of governance to enable them improve the welfare of the workers more. He charged workers to Shun lackadaisical attitude to work and always discharge their duties creditably to justify their pay. The Catholic prelate called on President Bola Tinubu to cut down the cost of governance to address the economic hardship in the country

* Comrade Francis Izuchukwu Ejikeme has been removed from his position as Students Union Government (SUG) President following an impeachment. In a related development, the Vice President, Comrade Onyinyechi Nwachukwu, was sworn today, July 23, 2024, at the Giant House, to act and oversee the office of the SUG President. According to a letter signed by the Senate President of the 30th House, Ozoelom Precious Oluchukwu, and the Chief Clerk, Amagba Gloria Akuoma, the impeachment was based on several allegations. The allegations include his instigation of a protest and facilitation of a press conference against the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Pro Chancellor, and University Governing Council, in violation of Section 39 of the SUG constitution. 

* Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has successfully completed the installation of road signs along the 26km Amansea- Ufuma Road recently constructed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo. According to the report: “These road signs have been strategically placed to provide advanced information to drivers regarding upcoming road conditions on this newly built stretch. We strongly urge all drivers to adhere strictly to the prescribed speed limits for their safety and the safety of others using the road”, the report concluded.

* Anambra state Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka has maintained that Governor Chukwuma Soludo remains the most education friendly Governor in Nigeria. Chukwuemeka made this known while speaking at a ceremony in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area. The Commissioner noted that no Governor in Nigeria has ever employed over 8,000 teachers in just two years in office; and that the total free basic education declared by Governor Soludo has increased by the numerical strength of public schools in the state and also, reduced insecurity in the state.

* Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka will soon have advertorials for the vacant position of a substantive Vice-chancellor for the institution. The Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Media and Publicity, Dr. Emma Ojukwu 

made this disclosure during a press briefing at the council chambers. Dr. Ojukwu stated that the council having performed it first obligation of appointing an acting Vice-Chancellor will soon issue directives for application for position of a substantive Vice-chancellor of the institition. He informed that the Governing Council appointed Prof. Umobi based on the fact that she is ineligible to contest for the position of a Substantive Vice-Chancellor with advertorials to be made public in the coming days.

* Catholic priests in Ekwulobia Diocese have increased in number with the ordination of six new priests by the Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, Peter Cardinal Okpaleke. The ordination mass took place at St Joseph Cathedral, Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area. Delivering a homily at the pontifical high mass, Cardinal Okpalaeke thanked God for raising pastors that will spread his gospel and win souls for Christ. Cardinal Okpalaeke who said that the event was the fifth ordination of the Diocese, urged the newly ordained priests to remember their canonical oaths, and always know that they are Christ’ representative on earth and so carry themselves as such, advising the laity to always pray and support them to succeed in their chosen vocation.

* Peace FC of Awka made history by officially launching and unveiled their new sets of Jerseys for the upcoming 2024/2025 football season. The official launching and unveiling took place at the Awka City Stadium, Anambra State just before their match against Puma All Stars Football Club, Army Barracks Onitsha at the ongoing 2024 Babatem/ANSFA All Stars Football Competition. Players of the All Stars and Junior teams donned the all White outfit as well as the Royal Blue top and Navy Blue Short designs with the name of the shirt sponsor, NOLUN CHATTELS LTD visibly engraved on the colourful outfits. Addressing Sports writers, Chairman of Peace FC, Mr. Ifunanya Nwangwu informed that the unveiling ceremony was an opportunity for the club to showcase to the globe the team currently making waves in the state. Nwangwu stated that the club is building something different in the state that will match not just clubs playing in the elite Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) but the highest level of football in the globe.

 

* In a continued effort toward youth grassroots development, Nigeria’s Rugby Ambassador, Princess Alban Ugonwaezeh-Agugo, has expanded her outreach in Anambra State through her foundation, the Princess Alban Ugonwaezeh Sports and Youth Development Academy (PASYDA). Amb. Agugo and her crew recently, paid a courtesy visit to HRM Igwe Dr. Robert C. Eze (Okofia VI) of Ukpo and his Royal Cabinet in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State, to raise awareness about Rugby.

* A chieftain of Labour Party (LP) and former governorship candidate in Anambra State, Mr. Oseloka has said that Prof Chukwuma Soludo has taken the state backward. Obaze regretted that despite the promise of turning Anambra into Dubai and Taiwan, Soludo had broken Anambra irretrievably, especially in terms of security. The former governorship candidate who addressed his political supporters under the aegis of Team OHO, during a strategy meeting, said there was need to change Soludo next year when the state holds its governorship election.
