* Health workers in Anambra, has called for more collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organisation (WHO) and other stakeholders to strengthen health sector in the state. The workers made the called at the closing ceremony of a three-days review of 2023 and the 1st quarter of 2024 Annual Operational Plan (AOP), held in Awka recently. According to them, there’s no strong collaboration between the state government health sector and the UNICEF, WHO and other health partners.
* Anambra state government has approved the contract for the beautification of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Premises, Awka, for the sum of ninety-six million, nine hundred and sixty-eight thousand, two hundred and six-six naira to Telmac Engineering Services and the project is proposed to be delivered in eight months. According to a release signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, ANSEC also approved the construction of a Trauma Centre at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, for the sum of one billion, two hundred and ninety-six million, seven hundred and forty-thousand, nine hundred and thirty-two naira, thirty-one kobo, to Triseconds Resources Limited and it is to be delivered in eight months as well. It equally approved the supply of Maintenance Equipment for the Chinua Achebe Airport, Umueri for the sum of four hundred and thirty-seven million, seven hundred and eleven thousand, four hundred and twenty-six naira, and the contract is awarded to PEEZ Impex Company Limited, to be completed in two months.
* Comrade Chuddy Orakwue has officially
replaced Mr. Adigwe Chikwelu as the new President of National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, in Anambra State. Orakwue takes over from Comrade Chikwelu who was allegedly dismissed by the State Government for certificate racketeering. The union has been in factional leadership crisis over who pilot the affairs of the union, before the alledged discovering of one of the leader (Chikwelu), forged certificate scandal. Speaking to Journalists at the NULGE Secretariat complex in Awka, on Wednesday, the new President, Orakwue, assured the state government of their continous collaboration in making the Local Government Administration more efficient.
* The Anambra state Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka says Prof. Chukwuma Soludo remains the most education friendly Governor in Nigeria. Chukwuemeka made this known while speaking at a ceremony in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
The Commissioner noted that no Governor in Nigeria has ever employed over eight thousand teachers in just two years in office and that the free basic education declared by Governor Soludo has increased by the numerical strength of public schools in the state and also, reduced insecurity as well. He revealed that the moribund water facilities in public schools across the state are being resuscitated while some are already completed with solar systems as the source of power supply, which he said would ensure steady water supply within the school premises and its environs.
* Anambra State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Comdt. Maku Olatunde has met with Intelligence officers across the twenty one local government of the state to strategize on proactive measures to gather critical information and stay ahead of criminal elements. The meeting, held at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters, Awka on Tuesday 23rd July 2024, emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering in preventing and combating crime. Comdt. Maku charged the officers to be vigilant, proactive, and innovative in their approach to gathering and analyzing information that can aid in the reduction of crime within the state.
* The member representing Anambra West Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Patrick Obalum-Udoba has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the distribution of over two million economic trees and seedlings to Ndi Anambra, since he assumed office.
Speaking to newsmen in his Umueze Anam country home, Hon. Obalum-Udoba noted that what Governor Soludo has done is critical to alleviating poverty and economic prosperity of the state, as well as to ensure zero poverty in the nearest future. The Lawmaker who asked Ndi Anambra to take advantage of the Governor’s largesse to redirect their thinking towards agriculture, which he said is the main-stay of Nigeria’s economy before the advent of crude oil.
* A member of the panel investigating building collapse in anambra state, Prof. Akaolisa Ezeagu, has commended the sterling performance of the Commissioner for Housing in the State, Hon. Pauly Onyeka, which he described as facinating to many professionals in the built environment. Ezeagu made the commendation when the Commissioner, Onyeka appeared before the panel to offer some insightful suggestions towards finding a lasting solution to incessant building collapse in the area.
* The coach of the Awka based Peace FC All Stars, Mr. Samuel Ifeatu has said that the target of his team in the ongoing 2024 Anambra FA/Babatem All Stars Championship is the trophy. Coach Ifeatu who spoke to newsmen after his team’s 2-0 victory over Puma All Stars FC in their first match at Awka City Stadium said they are prepared for the battle ahead. Peace FC All Stars will play their next game against Ogbaru 1 All Stars on Saturday, 3rd August, 2024 at the Awka City Stadium.
* The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) and the Anambra State Police Partnership Forum (PSPF) have expressed deep sadness over the demise of CSP Mohammed Haruna, former Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra State. CSP Haruna was a highly respected and dedicated police officer who served in Anambra State until 2022. During his tenure, he worked closely with RULAAC and PSPF, and was recognized for his outstanding performance and commitment to professionalism and integrity.
* The Director General, Anambra State Bureau of Public Procurement (ANSBPP) Hon. Okey Ezeobi has commended the exceptional courage of NSCDC Anambra State Command personnel in the protection of Critical National, State and Local Government Assets & infrastructure and in safeguarding lives of lawful citizens. The DG stated this in Awka on Wednesday 23rd July 2024 when the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State, Comdt. Maku Olatunde paid a familiarization visit to explore areas of mutual interest for the safety and security of Anambra citizens. During the visit, Comdt. Maku emphasized the importance of collaboration between both agencies in ensuring the security and integrity of public procurement processes. He noted that the NSCDC’s mandate to protect critical national, state and local government assets and infrastructure aligns with the Bureau’s role in ensuring transparency and accountability in public procurement.
* Former governorship candidate in Anambra State on the platform of the defunct National Democratic Party (NDP), Dr. Ikechukwu Victor Anigbata, has described as double edged sword the latest ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria granting Local Governments in the country financial autonomy. Chief Anigbata, an Actuarist, however lauded the ruling of the Supreme Court on the Local Government autonomy but stated while it places a demand on the State Governors to stop interfering with finances of the Local Governments, it equally indirectly asking Federal Government to extricate itself from some of the items in the Exclusive List. He said the constitution is very clear about the roles of the federal Government and the State Governments, saying that it is obvious that the State has the constitutional authority over Local Governments and it is being taken away,.
