* Mr Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has urged the Anambra chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists to retract its negative comments against the governor. Aburime made the call during an interaction with the media in Awka while reacting to a communique by the NUJ. NUJ in its July meeting frowned at the purported shutdown of National Light Newspapers, the state-owned newspaper and the way the future of members of staff of the media establishment were being handled.

* Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State inaugurated its new/re-constituted Governing Council, following the dissolution of the former Governing Council. Given the new ‘look’ of the institution, which now has a number of distinguished personalities at the helm of affairs, and the calibre of people who are Members of its new Governing Council, there are high hopes that the University will be taken to great heights.

* A bill for a law to establish the Anambra state oil producing area development commission and for related matters have been read for the second reading. Chief Sponsor of the bill, member representing Ogbaru one constituency Hon. Nobel Chukwunonso Igwe in his submission said the essence of the bill is to foster a lasting solution to the socio- economic difficulties of oil producing areas in the state and to also sustain the rapid development area into a region that is well organised.

* Some local volunteers has dislodge criminal syndicate who had been camped in a forest between Umuenwelum Anam and Nzam in Anambra West LGA. The Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra West local government area, Mr. Felix ikechi while commending the volunteers said the gang has been causing a lot of havoc and security threat to the people of the local government for quite some time now.

* A 24-year-old graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University has come forward to allege that the suspect gunman Arrested In Awka robbed and raped her at gunpoint at another hotel in Awka on 11th July. Following publication of picture of the gunman two days ago by Anambra State Police Command, she stated that the suspect was among the criminals that abducted her when she boarded a tricycle along Ifite to Aroma Junction on 10th July, took her to a hotel within the area, dispossess her of her personal belongings and raped her before she was allowed to go.

* Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze at plenary on Tuesday July 25 announce the chairmen of the various house committees. Udeze after announcing the names stated that a date will be communicated for inuguration of the chairmen and their secratery before the actual committee work commences.

* About 135 buildings in Azuigbo community in  Nnewi South local government area of Anambra state are  being threathened by  flood errosion.
The buildings are at  blink of being  collapsed as results of the errosion menace. The impending danger was caused by the abandonment of the Azuigbo – Amichi- Osusorogu road project embarked upon by the former government of Chief Willie Obiano.

* The Anambra State government has organised a one-day training workshop for selected journalists practicing there. The training was conducted through Anambra State ICT Agency in conjunction with the State Ministry of Information, PA-CENT Technologies, and Bonitas Technologies. The MD/CEO of the agency, Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, during an opening speech, explained that the training became important to scale up the knowledge base of the journalists to be better equipped in the area of technology and be able to deploy the knowledge to improve their work.

* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, has appealed to the Federal Government to channel resources to the provision of basic amenities and infrastructure that can touch positively the lives of Nigerians, instead of remaining in the Corruption

* The promoters of the second edition of the Onitsha City Marathon have unveiled three partners. This is as the organizers proposed not less than N1billion for the the project ahead of the September 30, 2023, 21km race in the Anambra State commercial capital, Onitsha. The partners of the project unveiled on Friday at the premises of the Onitsha Business School were: Afia TV as broadcast rights owners, Y&T Sports as a technical partner and GLS Project as marketing partner.

* As lobbying continues in Abuja, the country’s seat of power, over the appointment of ministers into the President Bola Tinubu-led Government, the Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, has marshaled out plans to ensure that only diligent, faithful and card carrying members of the party are given appointments in the new administration.

ANN gathered that the reason for the decision was because of past experiences the party had with appointees of the Federal Government during President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years term.
