* Chairman of Anambra State Football Association (FA), ‘General’ Chikelue Iloenyosi, has paid a ‘get-well-quick’ visit to ailing former Super Eagles forward-turned defender, Sylvanus ‘Quick Silver’ Okpalla at his Festac, Lagos, residence. Okpalla is reported to be passing through health challenges. Iloenyosi, himself also a former Nigeria international, opted to extend his ‘one love’ gesture to the former Portugal based midfielder and 1980 AFCON winner.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described the late President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu as a true Igbo man who represented the course of Ndigbo in all ramifications. In his condolence message on behalf of the State Legislature, signed by Mr. Emma Madu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Udeze noted that the death of Chief Iwuanyanwu was a great loss to the Igbo race, Nigeria and International Community in view of Chief Iwuanyanwu’s contributions to the growth and development of the South-East and Nigeria at large. The Speaker who recollected the giant strides recorded by the Late Ohaneze Chieftain, Chief Iwuanyanwu such as his diverse ventures in the Engineering sector as a renowned Engineer, field of journalism as a publisher of the famous Champion Newspaper as well as sports development as founder and owner of Iwuanyanwu Football Club of Owerri,Imo State, maintained that the late Chief Iwuanyanwu died an accomplished statesman.

* The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade’s task force on mining have continued to arrest more illegal miners. The taskforce whose duty is to combat illegal mining activities across the state as a measure to reduce and reclaim lost lands to erosion recorded another milestone in Awkuzu and Ogbunike both in Oyi Local Government Area and Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area where it arrested several suspects for illegal sand mining activities and impounded over ten trucks.
The Managing Director of OCHA Brigade Mr Celestine Anere while reacting to the arrest, revealed that the development marks a significant step towards restoring sanity in the state’s mining sector and ensuring that mineral resources are exploited in accordance with the law.

* The Naval Outpost Onitsha, has donated educational materials and stationery to Central Primary School Odekpe, in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State.
The Commanding Officer, Navy Captain Musa Danjuma Jarma, who made the donation on Friday, 26th July 2024, said the gesture was part of the non-kinetic activities of Operation Delta Sanity to foster civil-military relations with the host communities and civil populace. Navy Captain Jarma disclosed that Operation Delta Sanity was a renewed effort of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, to ensure security particularly in the maritime sector and eliminate various crimes.

* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command, Maku Olatunde has convened a strategic meeting of all Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Heads of Formations and Tactical Commanders at the State Command Headquarters Awka, in anticipation of the planned nationwide protest. The meeting aimed to develop effective measures to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, prevent breakdown of law and order, and ensure a unified response to potential security challenges. The NSCDC State boss warned supervisory officers to maintain utmost vigilance and assume full responsibility for security and protection of assets within their area of responsibility. He appealed to protest organizers to consider alternative lawful channels for articulating grievances, cautioning against infiltration by undesirable elements, including miscreants, hoodlums and anti progressive individuals.

* The Idemili North Chairman, Hon. Stanley Nkworka has issued a two weeks ultimatum for the demolition of a dilapidated building at Electrical Dealers International Market (EDIM) Obosi to avoid experiencing another building collapse that may lead to loss of lives and property of traders in Anambra State. This was revealed by the EDIM Chairman, Amb Chike Onunkwo while addressing newsman shortly after the market’s weekly prayers saying that a particular trader has refused to vacate his wares around the dilapidated building making it difficult to pull down the tower without damaging his property. The crisis between the leadership of Ugwuagba Obosi Electrical market, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, and a trader, Mr. Chekwube Nwankwo, following fear of collapsing security tower, has deepened as it took a new dimension shortly after the weekly prayer session of the market.

* The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South East zone, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, has said that the party is set to capture the remaining states in the zone into the party. He said the prospects of the APC in the SouthEast region seem to be very bright as the days roll by. Arodiogbu who spoke to journalists in Anambra said the party has put mechanism in place to ensure that it captures Anambra next year when the party holds its election, while Abia and Enugu will be captured during the 2027 general elections.

* A mysterious outbreak of food poisoning has left at least 10 people hospitalized in various health facilities across Onitsha, sparking widespread panic among residents. According to investigations, the victims fell ill after consuming beans, with symptoms including watery diarrhea and strange ailments. The development has sent shockwaves through the community, with many abandoning bean consumption until health authorities provide clarity.

* A newly employed teacher in Anambra State has written an emotional letter to the state governor, Prof Charles Soludo, lamenting the poor salary and working conditions offered by the state government. The teacher, who withheld her name, expressed disappointment and frustration with the N33,122.65 monthly salary and a two-year probation period with no possibility of transfer for 10 years.
The letter highlighted the struggles of teachers in the state, questioning the hope for their future and the value placed on their profession.

* A human rights activist and chairman of International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), Nze Emeka Umeagbalasi, has flayed President Bola Tinubu for removing subsidy from petrolatum which has inflicted enormous hardship on the citizens of Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview in Onitsha, the Anambra State commercial hub, the activist said there is nothing like subsidy since the very meaning of Government is to provide the welfare of the people, which in effect implies subsidy.
