* The Wife of the Anglican Bishop of Ogbaru Diocese, Dr. Uche Amah, has blamed the high rate of immorality in the society on poor parenting. Speaking to newsmen at the Cathedral Church of St. James the Great, Atani, Dr. Amah regretted the negative consequences of immorality in the society and charged parents, especially mothers, to be alive to their responsibilities. While describing parenting as a process of transferring quality character and sound morals to children by parents, Dr. Amah, who is the president of Mother’s Union, Women’s Guild, Girls Guild, and Young Wives Association in the Anglican Diocese of Ogbaru, condemned the inordinate quest for materialism among women, which she said is impeding their family roles of child nursing and upbringing.
* As Supreme Court of Nigeria continues to receive accolades on the recent judgement on local government autonomy, an industrialist, Chief Johnson Okolo has joined in commending the apex court for the sound judgement. Chief Okolo who is the Chairman of industrial cluster, Awada Obosi in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State in an interview with newsmen in Onitsha described the judgment as a landmark one which he said if the autonomy of local government was fully implemented that it would attract progress and development down to the grassroots. He said that court has actually delivered its judgement and issued directives but that to implement it would be a hard nut to crack, even as he contended that corruption in Nigeria would truncate the implementation.
* Chairman, Anambra State Mining Reform Committee, Prof. Charles Ofoegbu, says Governor Chukwuma Soludo, did not in any way ban mining activities. Prof. Ofoegbu while speaking during a one-day interface with the state miners at the SSG’s Conference Hall, Government House Awka, stated that Soludo only directed a temporal suspension of mining activities to enable the already set up Anambra State Mining Reform Committee to interface with state miners and share the global best practices he wants to mainstream through the ministries to reform the sector.Â
* The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has expressed his profound shock and grief over the sudden demise of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah in London at the age of 52 years. Soludo In his condolence message signed Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor, lamented that the untimely death of Senator Ubah, came as a sorely regrettable and came at this difficult time that Ndigbo and Nigeria just lost another patriot in Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.Â
* Anambra Police Command has paraded 13 suspects arrested in different parts of the state for kidnap, armed robbery and cultism-related offences. No fewer than 20 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), several riffles and other exhibits were recovered by the gallant officers of the Anambra State Police Command. Anambra Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam while speaking noted that the paraded arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects; he also announced that the police operatives and other sisters security agencies recovered some improvised explosive devices, IEDs, (numbering up to 20) in different parts of the state, where the gunmen strategically positioned them for detonation.
* Former Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba has described Christianity as the foundation of human development. Etiaba, through a release signed by Mr. Emma Madu, her former Chief Press Secretary, noted that without Christianity, ndi Igbo would have remained in the dark ages of idolatry and barbarism.
Etiaba prayed God to immortalize the efforts of the early missionaries and institute enduring peace and progress in Igbo land. The former Governor enumerated some of the achievements of the CMS to include establishment of churches, schools, hospitals as well as stopping of killing of twins and slave trade among others.
* President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra State Chapter, Chief Emeka Udodeme following reports of a planned nationwide protest against the economic hardship in the country, has appealed to youths in Anambra not to participate in the exercise. Chief Udodeme who made the stance of the group known to members of the press at the secretarait of the organization in Awka, revealed that the group is concerned that though the reasons for the protest are germane, it might be hijacked by unscrupulous elements. They acknowledged the economic hardship in the country and the right of citizens to peaceful protest, but expressed worries that the protest might be hijacked by some unscrupulous individuals and groups who may have other ulterior motives and when such happens the protest would surely turn violet while the end result would be destructive.Â
* Standards Oragnisation Of Nigeria, SON, has insisted that any product produced or imported into the country must meet the minimum standards, registered and certified to reduce the impact of substandard products on the economy and the health of Nigerians. This resolution to uphold the best practices as it concerns different products in Nigerian markets formed the crux of the matter at a one-day sensitization workshop held by the organization in Awka. The workshop which had as theme: ‘SON requirements and compliance monitoring activities to cub the influx and sale of substandard products in the country’ was organised by the Inspectorate And Compliance Directorate of organization in Awka, Anambra State.
* Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo; National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Chris Isiguzo; The President, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku, and the Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Southeast Zone, will on 31st of July Grace the 2024 Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Media Summit. The two days event which will take place at Hilton Leisure Hotels, Awka, Anambra State with the theme “Southeast: Towards A Robust Economic Blueprint for Sustainable Development” is set to commence on Tuesday 30th July, 2024 while the event proper will be on 31st July, 2024. The Convener and the NUJ Vice President, Southeast Zone, Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi disclosed this during a Courtesy Visit to the Managing Director, Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Awka, Mr Chidi Obidiegwu to acquaint the management of the event.Â
* As the Christian Community of Igbo extraction marks the CMS Anniversary, the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has called on Christians to uphold the efforts made by the early missionaries in spreading Christianity. In his Goodwill Message to mark the 167th Anniversary of the CMS, Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that the coming of Christianity to Igbo land one hundred and sixty seven years ago, precisely on the 27th July,1857, brought a lot of transformation to the lives of the people as well as development of the society. The Speaker who gladly recited the CMS Anniversary Anthem”Hail The Anniversary Day”,paid glowing tributes to the late Archbishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther and his team for liberating the Igbo race from the shackles of idolatry and other sociocultural misconducts by bringing Christianity to Ndigbo.
