* A former gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State, Mr Oseloka Obaze, has decried what he describes as the hopeless situation in the state which, he says, has no solution in sight. Obaze, a former diplomat who was addressing his loyalists in Awka, to appreciate their services to him, regretted that between 2014 and 2022 when it was thought that Anambra was bad, no one knew it would get worse by 2021 till date, with no solution in sight. He further regretted that despite Gov Chukwuma Soludo’s promise of turning Anambra to Dubai and Taiwan, the state had regressed in terms of security, quality of life and good governance.

* The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) has reemphasized its quest in ensuring that Women thrive in the Field of Engineering by breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes and providing the support and resources needed for success through mentorship programs, scholarships, workshops and advocacy.

APWEN National President, Engr. Dr. Adebisi Osim made the remarks recently at the University Auditorium of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka during the STEM FOR ALL programme hosted by the Association’s South-East Zone with the theme, “Promoting Inclusivity and Diversity in Engineering for a Sustainable World.”

* A new Sector Commander, C C Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, has assumed duty as the 15th substantive Sector Commander in the state following her deployment by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed mni, FCA, FCTA, CPFA, the Corps Marshal Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). C.C Joyce Alexander, took over from her predecessor, C.C Adeoye A. Irelewuyi who has been posted as the Ag. Zonal Commanding Officer RS4HQ. The new Sector Commander who hails from Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English and Literary Studies from University of Calabar, Cross River State in 1989.

* De Wilson FC triumphed over Fortune FC 5 nill to emerge champions of the Awka South Football League Season two. The final match’s festivities began with a ceremonial kick-off performed by Chairman of Awka South Local Government, Hon. Chinedu Okafor, underscoring the event’s significance and community support. Speaking, Chairman of the Awka South Local Football Council, Hon. Ofili Christian Chekwube, reflected on his vision for the youth.

* Aguleri World Forum (AWF) has disbursed sixteen million naira to all the communities for procurement of security gadgets and for the delivery other projects. The fund is one of Aguleri World Forum’s efforts towards realizing their major duties which are to foster progress, unity and development of the entire Aguleri communities which include Aguleri Central, Enugwu Aguleri, Eziagulu-Otu Aguleri, Enugwu Otu Aguleri, Mkpunando-Otu Aguleri, Eziagulu Uno, Igboezunu Aguleri and Ivite Aguleri in Anambra East Council Area. According to the Forum, the choice to invest in security architecture of the communities is to assist the government to secure life and property of their sons and daughters.

* A member of Professional Football Association of Nigeria (PFAN) Prince Harrison Jalla has described the purported ban on Anambra State Football Association (FA) activities by Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) as outlandish and counter productive. Prince Jalla while reacting to the ongoing misunderstanding between the Anambra State Football Association Chairman, General Chikelue Iloenyosi and Anambra State Chapter of Sports Writers Association (SWAN), stated that PFAN condemn and reject the harassment and intimidation.

* The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution in partnership with the Member representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in House of Representatives, Hon. Uchenna Okonkwo have organized a sensitization program on climate change for stakeholders in the constituency.

The programme which had as theme “Climate Adaptation/Resilient Peace Building Awareness” was aimed at creating awareness about Climate Change, one of the most pressing global issues affecting every aspect of the environment and society at the moment. The programme also provided a platform for participants to discuss ways to mitigate the impacts of climate on their communities and develop strategies to withstand and recover from Climate change-related disruptions.

* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NACDC) Anambra State Command has deployed 1,190 officers and men ahead of nationwide protest scheduled for August. Comdt. Maku Olatunde, the State Commandant of NSCDC stated this in Awka on Sunday 28th of July, 2024 after a meeting with other service commanders in Anambra State.

According to him, the command remains committed and unrelenting in maintaining law and order before, during, and after the planned protest. While 350 personnel are for the Anti-sit at home order operations on Monday, 840 personnel are to resist all forms of violent protests and lawlessness, as well as prevent vandalization of Critical National Assets and infrastructure.

* Following his zero tolerance to dirt and indiscriminate dumping of refuse, the Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka, has charged the leadership of all markets in the Idemili North LGA to rein in their members who are in the habit of littering the environment, saying that the Council will no longer condone any further defacing and blocking of drainage systems. Nkwoka who gave the charge while addressing the chairmen and representatives of the markets in his office at the Council’s Headquarters, Ogidi, urged them to ensure that they evacuated all the refuse in their various markets to the designated points as and when due, emphasizing that he was particularly pained with the mountainous refuse scattered across the markets, adding that he got firsthand information during his tour of the markets

 * Flags were flown at half-mast at the headquarters of Ikemba Front, a support group in Awka set up for the 2025 Anambra governorship election of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. The group has also declared seven days mourning for the Senator. The group was one of the emerging structures being put in place by the late Senator in readiness for next year’s governorship election.
