* Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has commissioned the manufacturing and vegetables processing plant of Tiger Foods Limited, a company that produces a wide range of spices, seasonings, and dehydrated vegetables. ANN reports thay the plant, which is located at KM 4 Onitsha-Owerri Road, has a staff strength of 500 persons and produces a total of 72 products.
* Team Anambra have won four medals at the just concluded five-day South East Zonal Chess Championship held at the City Global Hotel Owerri in Imo State. The South East Zonal championship was organized by South East Chess Association in collaboration with Nigeria Chess Federation (NSF). Team Anambra had four players in attendance in company of two officials of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC) in the persons of the State Chess Coach, Charles Ntephe and the State Association Secretary, Bridget Onyekwe.
* Anambra State Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR has terminated the contract with TEC Engineering Nig Ltd, the contractor handling the rehabilitation of Niger Street road project in Onitsha. Soludo terminated the 2.17km Niger street road Fegge with a 1.1km flood control channel contract when he paid an inspection visit to the project and discovered that the contractor was not delivering according to the timelines and agreement reached before the contract was awarded.
* Anambra State Government through the office of Mr Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne have stepped in to resolve a series of complaints revolving around some custom and traditions of the Umuawulu community in Awaka South Local Council which impedes peace in the community. Some of the participants of the meeting commented on the way forward and at the end resolutions were reached in the interest of peace and harmony in the community.
* Anambra State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) on Saturday July 29th in Awka, elected new Local Government Areas (LGA) Coordinators and their executive members. Anambra State Chairman of NYCN, Comrade Obi Emeka Chukwudi, in his address charged the Coordinators to be good ambassadors to their various communities and council areas respectively.
* The Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe has reassured the organizers of the forthcoming Onitsha City Marathon of his support. He stated this at the recently held World Press Conference at Onitsha where the organizers of the Onitsha City Marathon unveiled their partners.
* The Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR) Initiative has formally flagged off the construction of the one billion Naira Students Center in Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Speaking at the ceremony, the MD/CEO of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh congratulated the University and the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Charles Esimone for his uncommon drive for infrastructural development and academic excellence. According to Dr. Udoh, ASR Africa has a commitment of setting aside one hundred million dollars annually of which fifty million dollars is set aside specifically for Nigeria and the remaining $50m for the rest of Africa.
* The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, Dr Emeka Odogwu has called on Journalists to engage in daily physical exercise to gain healthy living.
Odogwu said this while declaring open the NUJ, Anambra Council 2023 indoor games in Awka.
He said that the benefits of daily physical exercise in human development was unfathomable and appealed to Journalists to create time to exercise.
* Anambra State Police Command has debunk malicious publication by Sahara Reporters after its attention was drawn to publication alleging that one robbery suspect arrested in Obosi last week was tortured to death while the other was released to go. In a released by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command on Sunday July 30th, it described the report as propaganda.
* The Anambra State chapter of South-East APC Young Progressives Forum has commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for nominating Barrister Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, as Minister representing the state. The South-East APC Young Progressives Forum is strongly behind her nomination. According to the group, “We are very happy because it is a welcome development to the APC in Anambra State and South East in general”. The group says that Barr Uju Ohanenye, been a dedicated and committed member of APC will help unite and galvanise the party in the State.
