* The member representing Anambra East Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Obi Nweke has called on the federal government to urgently initiate measures to end the biting hunger, insecurity, high inflation as well as food insecurity ravaging the country at the moment. Nweke who stated this while speaking to newsmen in Awka, regretted that the abject poverty, insecurity and unfavorable economic policies and programmes of the President Bola Tibubu administration have worsened the already precarious conditions of Nigerians. Hon. Nweke further urged the federal government to urgently map out far reaching economic policies that will directly benefit the highest percentage of the citizenry, rather than implementing policies that would only be beneficial to the few rich and the elites.

* A Charity Organization based in United States of America (USA) called ‘Lifted Hands ‘Inc’ has brought smiles to people of Uru Ogidi community in Anambra State as it offered free medical treatment as well as food, clothes, drugs to them. The two days free medical outreach brought colour to the Ogidi festival. The group offered free eyes surgeries, free eye check,  medical checkup, tests on diabetes, malaria, high blood pressure.

* The Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Industry, Commissioner for Agriculture and the Commissioner for land to mobilize, acquire and gazette land for an industrial/agricultural hub in all the 21 local government areas. The lawmakers through a motion sponsored by the member representing Ihiala one constituency Hon. Golden Iloh, also encourage investors, actualization of think home philosophy and possibly create jobs for teaming youths. Hon. Iloh who is the House Committee Chairman on Agriculture in his submission said that industrialization and agriculture remain the major fulcrum towards the development and advancement of any given State.

* Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has explained that her Healthy Living Exhibition Garden was set up to play important purposes in the areas of education, renewed consciousness, and healthy living orientation. Mrs Soludo stated this shortly after visiting her garden at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, where she picked up some crops that are already due for harvest. The Healthy Living Exhibition Garden was set up a few weeks ago by the governor’s wife to raise awareness about the importance of owning household gardens, striving for self-sufficiency and driving passion for agriculture and changing many false narratives that certain crops do not thrive in this side of the country.

* A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Amawbia, Anambra State, has sentenced two men, Philip Avatus and Pius Dickson, to seven years imprisonment each for stealing iron rods valued at N1.1 million. The duo, who hailed from Taraba State, pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and malicious damage when they were arraigned. Chief Magistrate Mike Anyadiegwu, considering their guilty plea and show of remorse, sentenced them to seven years in prison each. The sentences will run concurrently.
Prosecutor Insp. Innocent Agu told the court that the defendants committed the offense on July 24 along Amawbia-Nise Road, Akwa, damaging, cutting, and stealing 120 pieces of 12mm iron rods meant for drainage construction.

* The Principal of Union Secondary School, Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mrs S.U Onyebuchi, has appealed to the contractor awarded the contract for the construction of fence round the school to come and execute the job. The Principal made the appeal when ProjectTrust Community of Practice, CoP member, Jane Ejim Kenechukwu visited the school to track the implementation of the fencing project. ProjectTrust, implemented by Connected Development, (CODE), with the support of MacArthur Foundation, is aimed at addressing trust deficit between the government and the people by restoring citizens’ confidence in their government.

* The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, wishes to condole with the immediate family of the late Distinguished Senator of the federal republic of Nigeria, late Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, on his untimely death. In a message signed by Chairman NUJ, Anambra State Council, Comrade Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and Comrade Sir. Aloysius Ofodile, Secretary, the union
condoles with Mr President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the entire National Assembly, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, his constituents and his local Government area, for this irreparable loss.

* Professor Chukwuma Soludo has send the list of Chairman and members of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to the Anambra State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation. Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze at plenary on Tuesday, red-out the letter from from Governor Soludo and the names of ANSIEC members who are expected to appear before the House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation as appropriate. Members of the Commission includes; Magistrate Chinelo Genevieve Osakwe (Chairman), Mrs. Beneden Obande (Member), Barr. Osita Cyril Igbokwe (Member), Sir Chinedu Anthony Nnaluo (Member), Mrs. Helen Ifyenwa Umeh (Member) and Mr. John Emeka Okeke (Member).

* In a remarkable display of readiness and commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment and dominate the public space, the State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Anambra State Command, led officers and men in a show of force in and around Anambra State. The show of force started at the State Command HQ in Awka and covered key routes, including Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Ziks Avenue, Regina Caeli Junction, Kwata Junction, New Parts Nkpor, Nkpor- Junction, Borromeo roundabout, Awka road, DMGS roundabout, Upper New Market road, Oguta road, ending at Head Bridge, showcasing a strong security presence across the state. The State Commandant declared that the current display of force, which will persist until August 12th, serves as a testament to the agency’s readiness and dedication to ensuring the round-the-clock security of Critical National Assets and infrastructure. This proactive measure seeks to preempt and mitigate any potential incidents of vandalism, breaches of peace, and lawlessness that may occur in conjunction with the planned nationwide protest.

* The Anambra State Association of Town Union, ASATU, the umbrella association of all the town unions of the 179 communities in Anambra State, has urged caution regarding the planned nationwide protest against the current economic hardships facing the country. In a statement signed by its National President, Chief Titus Akpudo, the organization acknowledged that while citizens have the constitutionally guaranteed right to protest, such actions must be conducted within the boundaries of law and order. ASATU President warned that protests are vulnerable to being hijacked by hooligans, miscreants, and political thugs who may exploit the situation to commit acts of violence and engage in criminal activities for political or selfish gains.
