# Anambra State Police Command leveraging on the assistance of the Umueri village, Ogbunike community members, has arrested one female suspect, Somtochukwu Nwafor aged 24 years in connection with the gruesome murder of a pregnant nurse, whose mutilated body was recently discovered in a soakaway pit at Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect one Chiemerie Obika Elobisi from the same village, but currently at large.
She stated that she was called by the suspect to clean the blood stains after the victim was murdered. She further revealed how they sell the body parts to different evil native doctors in the area.
Spokesperson Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release stated that preliminary information shows that the victim, a trained nurse was lured by the murderer to his house under the guise of seeking medication.
Given the information from the suspect, Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in the early hours of 29th July 2025, burst a shrine of an identified native doctor, Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile from Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike and recovered suspected human body parts, concealed in cellophane (nylon) bags.
However, the Command has launched a manhunt for the prime suspect, along with the suspected receivers and collaborators. Ikenga stated.
# A traditional marriage ceremony that would have taken place on August 2nd has been cancelled just few days to the date, following a shocking discovery by the groom that his bride-to-be, one was in an “active sexual relationship” with her reverend father.
The cancellation, which was announced over the weekend by the groom, Mr. Chibuike Nwandu, was also posted on his social media platform, and has continued to trend on different media platforms.
According to him, the sexual relationship between the bride-to-be and her reverend father was still active, even after introduction as part of the traditional marriage rites.
# The Anambra State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the death of Mr. Okechukwu Akaneme, the former President of the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ONICCIMA), following widespread public outcry and media reports linking his demise to injuries allegedly inflicted during an enforcement operation by agents of the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), allegedly accompanied by some armed policemen.
According to reports, Mr. Akaneme, a prominent businessman and respected community figure in Onitsha, sustained severe spinal injuries during the said operation carried out on the 11th of October, 2024.
It was alleged that the enforcement team, in their bid to enforce and collect environmental levy from Akaneme on that fateful day, used excessive force, which led to the physical assault on him, to the point of breaking his spinal cord. Since that incident, the businessman had reportedly battled for survival until he eventually passed away on the 10th of July, 2025 — a death now believed by many to be connected to the October 2024 incident.
Reacting in a statement issued to newsmen, Police spokesperson, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command acknowledged the disturbing narrative surrounding Mr. Akaneme’s demise and expressed deep condolences to his family, associates, and the broader business community, noting his immense contributions to the socio-economic growth of the state.
The Command revealed that an internal inquiry had initially been initiated shortly after the October 2024 incident, adding that preliminary findings from that investigation indicated that some actions by individuals involved in the enforcement operation did not align with the professional and procedural standards expected of law enforcement agencies. However, with Mr. Akaneme’s passing, the police said the case has now been reopened.
# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command has pledged to deepen its synergy with other sister security agencies at the Forward Operating Bases (FOB) to beef up already existing arrangements in the fight against insecurity and other related crimes in Anambra State.
This was made known by Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant while playing host to the Commander FOB Aguata, Anambra State, CSP Elaigwu Austin at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters Awka.
Commandant Maku commended the FOBs for its operational gains in the fight against crime and non- state actors. He urged the troops to remain extremely vigilant throughout their tour of duty so as to deter and defeat emerging threats to Anambra security.
The NSCDC Anambra State boss asserted that the command having deployed its operatives to two of the FOBS has remained resolute in the fights against insurgents in the Aguata FOB since its inception for more than three years, and Ogbaru FOB for than one year. However, he promised to continue to mobilize every available resources at his disposal for the FOBs to confront the adversaries of the state.

CP. Orutugu described the act as “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.
The CP encourages anyone with useful information to assist the Police in the ongoing investigation to come forward and assured that the identity of such informants would be adequately protected.

Critical stakeholders from the constituency who spoke to newsmen about the performance of Obu, revealed that the lawmaker has surpassed the efforts of his predecessors and equally surpassed the expectations of the people as they all concurred that the coming of the lawmaker marked a watershed and turning point in the history of political representation in the state assembly.
The critical stakeholders who described Paul Obu as non-discriminatory in the spread and distribution of constituency projects and programmes, said they were all witnesses to the fact that the lawmaker has provided platforms for people to be lifted out of poverty, hunger and unemployment even as they emphasized that the lawmaker’s two years in office has been very resourceful, remarkable and result-oriented.
# The Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has directed all tactical and intelligence units to redouble their efforts in tracking down the armed men responsible for the abduction and subsequent killing of Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere, the Managing Director of Fish Magnet Outlet.
Late Onyekere was attacked in the evening of 27th July 2025, at his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, Awka.
This directive follows the recovery of the victim’s navy blue Toyota Corolla, along Ukwulu/Igbariam road by the Joint Security Team comprising of Anambra Vigilante Operatives and the Police.
Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the assailants had trailed the victim before launching the violent attack, during which the deceased was shot in the leg and forcibly taken away. He was later found lifeless, sparking public outrage and deep concern among residents of Awka.
The CP while condemning the killing, assured that the criminal elements behind this cowardly act will be brought to book.
Orutugu further stated that the Police owe it to the family, the people of Anambra, and the memory of the deceased to ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the Law.

Director, Skills Development Centre of the institution, Ogonna Nwokoye, revealed this at the institution during a one day National Board For Technical Education (NBTE) students sensitisation programme on National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) organised for representatives of Students Unions from NBTE accredited institutions in the Southeast.
Over ten NBTE accredited tertiary institutions’ students leaders attended the programme.
Nwokoye, during his presentation, hinted that Federal Polytechnic, Oko, is equally moving into food processing such as yam, cassava, potatoes and corn flour as well as concrete production in interlocking tiles.
