* A group, Adorable Foundation International (AFI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) has disclosed that it is starting a school to school campaign in Anambra State to sensitize students on the dangers of drug Abuse. The founder of the organization, Princess Ada Amam revealed this during a press conference in Awka to introduce the group’s beauty pageant.

* Anambra State government has assured former political appointees who worked with Governor Willie Obiano that Prof
Chukwuemeka Soludo is ready to work with them. The Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi made this promises during a meeting with the former political appointees in Awka recently. Addressing the appointees, Ezeajughi appreciated them for their service to Ndi Anambra during the regime of the past administration, and asked them to keep supporting the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Soludo administration. The Chief of Staff who listed the numerous achievements of Governor Soludo from infrastructural development to healthcare, security, youth empowerment and employment, workers’ welfare, education among others, assured them that Governor Soludo will look into all their demands for a better, liveable and prosperous homeland.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has commended Anambra State First Lady, Mrs Nonye Soludo for her effort towards the development of women in the state. Hon. Obi praised Mrs Soludo’s effort and described her as a champion for gender equality and women empowerment. She stated that, Mrs Soludo has spearheaded several programmes aimed at improving economic status of women in the state.

* After due consideration of the memo presented by Mr. Paulinus Onyeka, Anambra State Commissioner for Housing, Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), has approved the award of a contract for the renovation of the Civil Service Commission Building. The renovation will be completed in three months from the date of mobilization by BID Engineering Ltd at the cost of Ninty-Two Million, Three Hundred and Twenty-Seven Thousand, Two Hundred and Thirty-five Naira (N92, 327, 235. 00).

* The Commissioner for Health; Dr. Afam Obidike has stated that all the necessary arrangements have been concluded in order to upgrade Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka to a standard teaching hospital. Dr. Obidike made this known during a management meeting with the Chief Medical Director and Heads of Departments of the hospital in Awka. The Commissioner informed them that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda in healthcare is to transform all the government healthcare centers for optimal service delivery to the people as well as to achieve a universal health coverage for all.

* The legal team representing Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha, Anambra State, and the Diocese on the Niger has rejected two members of the panel investigating the recent collapse of the Centenary Building at DMGS. The panel chairman Prof. Akaolisa Ezeagu and Engr. Sir Victor Meju, a key member, are accused of making biased comments and publications following the incident. The lawyers have called on the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to remove the duo from the panel, citing a clear demonstration of bias.

* The rich cultural heritage of Ndigbo was displayed as Umunri celebrated their 2024 cultural fiesta. Organised by Organiru Umunri held at Saint Michael And All Angels’ Church hall, Nawfia. Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of Organiru Umunri, Chief Christian Ezenwaka explained that the organisation is socio- political and cultural organisation formed to achieve progressive unity and collective celebration of the rich cultural heritage, history, brotherhood and the many divine endowments of Umunri people.

* Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday 2nd July 2024 informed the general public, particularly residents of Anambra State, of a 3-month-old baby, found in front of Oraukwu Boys Technical College. The baby was recovered by a good Samaritan and brought to Eziowelle Police Station. According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, all efforts so far made to locate the parents or relatives of the baby for identification and claim, have proved abortive. The Police have handed over the baby to the Director of the Welfare Department Idemili North LGA for safe Custody. Hence, anyone who can identify or assist the Police in reuniting the baby with the family is hereby enjoined to come forward in this regard.

* Renowned Anambra industrialist and CEO of Zobis Cables Ltd, Engr. John Ezeobi has paid a surprise visit to his alma mater, Ede Secondary School in Okoti, Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, to assess the school’s infrastructure. Ezeobi, who attended the school from 2001 to 2003 and served as the Senior Prefect, was touched by the decaying infrastructure, particularly the school’s vulnerability to flooding during the rainy season. Speaking on the essence of the visit, the Philanthropist recounted how he was approached by the school’s owners to buy-up the property, which he declined to do, out of his interest and wish to preserve the institutional legacy. He further emphasized that the school harbours some part of his childhood memories and most importantly shaped him into what he is today in the society.

* Mr. Chinedu Fidelis has emerged as the new President General of Awba-Ofemmili Development Union in Awka North Local Government Area. Mr. Chinedu scored two hundred and eighty votes to beat his closet opponent, Mr. Ignatius Okafor who polled fifty-eight votes in an election conducted by the officials from the Anambra State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs and was monitored by different security officials in the state. Congratulating the new president general on the victory, the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Comrade ThankGod Anago, urged him to use his new position to bring peace and development to the community.
