* Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure has commended the pace and quality of construction on the ongoing Ekwulobia flyover project by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration. The commendation came from the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Emma Nwafor following an inspection of the project site by the Committee during an oversight visit to assess the progress and standards being adhered to in the construction.
Hon. Nwafor, the Member representing Orumba South Constituency at the State House of Assembly, expressed satisfaction with the progress being made and the quality of materials used in the construction, affirming that they meet the required standards. The lawmaker alongside the member representing Anambra West Constituency, Hon. Patrick Udoba and Hon. Golden Iloh, representing Ihiala Constituency Two
informed the contractors of the importance of maintaining the current pace and standard to ensure timely completion of the flyover, which he said is a critical infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow and boosting economic activities in the region.

* The Commissioner of Police CP. Nnaghe Obono Itam meets with the Anambra Central Senatorial Traditional Rulers Forum during their monthly meeting at Awka South Local Government Headquarters. CP Itam while intensifing his advocacy for a Policing Plan that is poised to hear from everyone and anyone who will help the Police and Security Agencies in enforcing the law and maintaining public order and safety in the State, noted that the traditional rulers are the custodians of cultural heritage. The CP stated that the traditional rulers are among the first levels of law enforcers as they deal with native and custom laws of the land. He stated that these laws if properly enforced at their level, some societal Meance shall not generate serious criminal behavior among teeming youths in the State.

* The member representing Anambra East Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Obi Nweke has called on Anambra youths to shun all forms of social vices at all times. Hon. Nweke who made the call while speaking in Awka, described Anambra youths as very intelligent, smart and industrious, appealing to them to shun all forms of social vices in order to have a prosperous future. The Lawmaker urged the youths in the State to key into all the youth friendly policies and programmes of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration to be financially independent and as well, become self reliant.

* The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, Comdt. Maku Olatunde, has commended the long-standing partnership between the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the NSCDC, describing it as a union built on shared values and goals.
During a courtesy visit by Dr. Mrs. Njoku Emilia, the State Coordinator of NECO, to the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Awka recently, Comdt. Maku praised NECO for conducting credible examinations nationwide. He assured that the NSCDC would continue to provide a secure environment at examination centers, ensuring the integrity of NECO results. The NSCDC State Commandant noted that the collaboration has significantly reduced examination malpractices and reiterated the Corps’ commitment to preventing any form of disruption during examinations.

* The Acting Vice-Chancellor Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Professor Kate Omenugha, principal officers, staff, management, students of the institution priests, religious and entire Catholic community of the institution came out in their numbers to joyfully welcome Francis Cardinal Arinze to the university. The event which was the official visit of the Cardinal to the Ivory tower featured holy mass, reception of the Cardinal, lecture and interactive session.

* The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah has commenced consultative visit to the party’s stakeholders in Anambra Central to brief them on his intention to contest the party’s Gubernatorial Primary that will take place next year. Senator Ubah recently visited the former Secretary to Anambra State Government, Prince Osy Ezenwa at his country home in Abagana of Njikoka Local Government Area. Speaking during the visit, Senator Ubah appreciated Prince Ezenwa for his efforts to strengthen the party in Anambra State and disclosed that he was there to officially inform him about his intention to contest the next Gubernatorial Primary of the party.

* Francis Cardinal Arinze says Nigeria should promote televised debates during elections as a way of strengthening the country’s democracy. Cardinal Arinze stated this during a lecture he delivered during his visit to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus. In his lecture titled, “Promoting Social Responsibilities and Ethical Conduct”, Cardinal Arinze who was the Guest Lecturer during a reception to welcome him to the University, stated that televised debates, like in developed democracies, would give the electorate the opportunity to decide which candidate they want. The Catholic Prelate also charged Universities, as ivory towers and centres of research and learning, to help in the formation of leaders who cannot be bought while governments and politicians should allow the universities exercise their right of expression irrespective of party affiliation.

* A lone accident at Tarzan by Ifeanyichukwu motors along the Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra has claimed the life of a conductor. The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Anambra, Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed the accident. Irelewuyi said the accident, which occurred at 4:30 pm, was the result of a tyre burst. He said the accident involved a commercial Mercedes truck with registration number WKR824XA with Mr. Christopher Obodieze as the driver.
While commiserating with the families of the dead, the sector commander urged motorists to ensure their tyres were duly checked before using the road. He also emphasised the importance of spare tyres on all vehicles.

* Three suspects have been paraded at Onitsha South Council Area by the council ‘s security agents for vandalism and other related offences. Speaking while parading the suspects, the Secretary General of Onitsha South Council Area, Mr. Paul Onuachalla bemoaned the activities of hoodlums in the council area. Onuachalla commended the security agents for their tireless efforts in apprehending hoodlums and vandalizers in the area. The suspects are Mr. Sunday Amulu from Uzo-Uwani in Enugu State who was arrested as an accomplice to an unknown suspect who vandalized iron protector at Premier Brewery along Bridge Head, Onitsha, Mr. Chukwuemeka Emoke from Nkalagu in Ebonyi State, the buyer of the vandalized irons who trades at Silas works Street Fegge Onitsha and Mr. Ebube Agah from Ezzi in Ebonyi State, a mechanic who operates at the newly constructed Road at Port Harcourt Road Fegge Onitsha.

* Nnokwa youths has organized a sensitization programme to raise awareness on the negative impact of social vices and also best approach towards making the best career choices.
The event which took place at Ubili Civic center, Nnokwa, Idemili South Local Government Area featured lectures on dangers associated with social vices. The guest speakers including, Dr Nkem Okafor, Sir Charles Abaekih and Mrs Adamaka Edozie, advised the students to build a bright future through the chosen careers.
