* The Transition committee chairman Dunukofia Local Government Hon. Chijioke Ozumba has declared that immediate renovation of Dunukofia council secretariat be commenced. He made this declaration at the council secretariat Ukpo immediately after walking round the facility in the secretariat marking out grey areas hence declaring state of emergency on the main secretariat Building.
* Anambra State Government has released twelve approved sand mining guidelines around bridges, its environs, and anywhere across the state. The guidelines, derived from the recommendations of the committee set up by the state government due to threats to Odene Bridge in Anambra East Council Area, as a result of sand mining related activities, mandate all sand miners in Anambra State to register with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for documentation, communication, monitoring and supervision. The guidelines, signed by the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Anthony Ifeanya and the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Security, Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi, noted that the records of registered miners shall be made available to the ministry of Environment and its agency, ANSEWCCA to enable performance of their activities.
* The member representing Aguata one constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly Hon. Anayo Emmanuel Okpalaeke as part of his constituency project rehabilitate a borehole at Umugama hall Umuchu. Hon. Okpalaeke who is the Chairman House Committee on Education and Deputy Chairman Committee on Environment while speaking before the unveiling of the project explained that it was in fulfilment of his campaign promises to solve the needs of his constituents and thanked God for making the day a reality. Okpalaeke revealed that two hundred (200) members of Aguata one Constituency will be enrolled into Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) soon and expressed gratitude to the people of Umugama stating he got the highest votes from them after Achana.
* The Students and Staff of the College of Nursing Sciences St Joseph’s Hospital Adazi- Nnukwu (CONSA) have appealed to the Anambra State Government to assist the faith based institution owned by the Catholic Diocese of Awka in constructing more hostels, classroom blocks and a befitting Administrative block to solve the accomodation challenges facing the institution due to the influx of students. The appeal was made recently during the 2024 Students Cultural day celebration themed ” Omenala Igbo Ka Odiri Gawazie- Igbo Culture should Continue” at CONSA Adazi-Nnukwu, Anaocha Local Government Area. The students also joined other lovers of Igbo language, customs and traditions to advocate for the importance of preserving, promoting Igbo culture and ensuring that the younger generation do not neglect the values and norms that identifies the Igbo people.
* The MD/CEO, Anambra State Small Business Agency (ASBA), Mr. Clement Chukwuka has said that under Governor Charles Soludo’s Administration, ASBA has significantly bolstered the support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Anambra. He said this during an interview with journalists in commemoration of the 2024 World MSME Day. According to the Managing Director, since the inauguration of its Board of Directors on August 1, 2023, ASBA has allocated approximately N841 million within 10 months, in low interest loans to various MSMEs in manufacturing, agriculture, trade and commerce thereby creating numerous direct and indirect jobs.
* Anambra Keke owners and riders have commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his unwavering commitment to ensuring security of lives and property in the state. Speaking during a solidarity visit to the Government House Awka, the Keke owners and riders from Awka zone said that the recent initiative by the government to conduct security profiling and route identification for Keke riders through the Special Service Unit, Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, is a bold and
necessary step towards creating a safer environment for all Keke riders and citizens. Speaking through their Chairman, Mr. Collins Ozojiofor and Administrative Officer, Mr Nnaji Ekenedilichukwu, the group noted that unidentified tricycles are often used to commit all manner of crime, including kidnapping, robbery and cult-related killing, reason they are supporting the Governor’s proactive approach to tackling the issue, particularly the criminal activities associated with Keke tricycles.
* The new Transition Committee Chairman, Idemili North Local Government Area, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka has assured his people that he would run an administration built on transparency, accountability and ensure conservation of a healthy environment during his tenure, saying that he has to work assiduously to prove himself for the next level. Presenting his inaugural address at the council secretariat, Ogidi as he resumed office, Nkwoka said his vision was to build a sustainable, inclusive and prosperous local government,where every Nwa Idemili has access to quality services, opportunities, and a healthy environment.
* Anambra State coordination office of the FGN IFAD VCDP has implored farmers to magnanimously share the success story of their best agronomic practices with their fellow farmers to achieve food security. The acting State Programme Coordinator of the programme, Dr Mrs. Deborah Onyefulu, who made the remark during a Training Of Trainers, TOT, Pre-season Workshop and Seasonal Climate Prediction for the 2024 cropping season in Awka, appealed to them to stop hurding information. The workshop, which had in attendance extension agents, liaison officers, lead farmers and rice and cassava processors from the eight participating council areas in Anambra State, featured different paper presentations.
* The member representing Ogbaru One constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly Hon. Chukwunonso Noble Igwe says Okpoko community has been overlooked by previous administrations, but Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s regime has brought significant improvements. Hon. Igwe who is the Deputy Minority Leader of the 8th assembly while commissioning a new Market Party Office and urinary facilities built by the market’s President-General, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu recently, highlighted the construction of good roads, a general hospital, free antenatal services, boreholes, and free education for pupils as some of the achievements under Soludo’s administration. The lawmaker while addressing the traders of Ogbaru Main Market also inspected a damaged drainage system, known locally as a “Sakamori.”
* The Department of English, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam has held Opuruiche Festival of Arts featuring colourful varieties of cultural displays. The stage at ETF auditorium of the university, the venue for the event, was artistically adorned with varieties of creative arts depicting the rich African cultural heritage. The activity-filled festival had in attendance students and staff of the English department, guest secondary schools, universities, the academia, traditional rulers, writers, among others.
