* Communities in Nnewi North and Nnewi South Local Government Areas of Anambra State has benefited from a three day free medical outreach organized by a non-governmental organisation, Chidi Anyaegbu Foundation in collaboration with Living Hope Medical Centre, USA. The medical mission which took place at Pat-Angelina Anyaegbu Hospital Amichi, Nnewi South council area drew over two thousand (2000) persons who converged on the hospital to receive lifeline treatments and medical attention.
* Civil society actors and media professionals in Anambra State have been tasked to start using the auditor general’s reports to hold political office holders to account. The Program Officer, Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative, (PLSI), Abdulahi Adebayo, gave the charge at the end of a one-day capacity building workshop supported by John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, for selected civil society activists and media professionals in Awka, Anambra State.
* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor through the Justice, Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC), Awka Diocese in collaboration with the Help For All (HIFA) Initiative, Austria, a Non-Governmental Organization at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, paid the tuition fees of 85 poor and Indigent students across all denominations in Anambra State, totalling 10million Four Hundred and Forty five thousand Naira. Declaring the cheques presentation open, Bishop Ezeokafor exhorted the beneficiaries to work harder in their academic pursuit, saying that the only meaningful and fastest way they can achieve greatness and attained their full potentials was through access to quality education, urging them to be focused and resolute in their quest for a better and a greater future, emphasizing that without education they may not get to that height they so desired, adding that only the hardworking students would continue to enjoy the tuition fees payment package while the unserious ones would no longer take part in it.
* The Magistrate Court at Atani, Ogbaru District has issued a warrant for the arrest of an Anglican priest, Rev Ossy Molokwu (Rtd) who was accused of Double selling four plots of Land but absconed from the court premises to evade being incarcerated. Molokwu absconed after the magistrate court delivered his judgement and ordered that he should be remanded in the Correctional Center Onitsha, pending when he complies with the order. The warrant of arrest dated 5th July 2024 was to be made available to the Nigerian Police Force through the Commissioner of Police to arrest the defendant, Rev. Ossy Molokwu Rtd on sight if he does not submit himself to the Correction Center Onitsha .
* Constituents of Aguata Federal Constituency have eulogized their representative, Hon. Dominic Okafor for his people-oriented representation.They gave the eulogy during a Town Hall meeting with the representative in the constituency. The event which was supported by YIAGA Africa Centre for Legislative Engagement, a pro-democracy non-governmental organisation which seeks to encourage hard work and quality representation as well as bridge the gap between lawmakers and their constituents to increase effective and quality representation. Engr. Okafor revealed that the town hall meeting, has given him the opportunity to review his performance in past one year, interact and present his scorecard to his constituents as their legislator.
* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command in a proactive move has significantly intensified its deployment to protect Critical National, State and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure, focusing on banks, financial institutions, parks, schools, government offices and potential vulnerable points to maintain public trust and respond to security breaches. The State Commandant of NSCDC Anambra State Command, Comdt.
Maku Olatunde stated this in Awka on Monday 8th of July, 2024 while monitoring the deployment of personnel for the renewed launch operations. According to him, the exercise aims to boost economic activities, prevent miscreants, criminals, vagrants, vandals , hooligans, unruly individuals and economic saboteurs from attacking lawful residents of the state, particularly on Mondays.
* Twenty nine Deacons has been ordained by the Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo at the Basilica of St. Andrew, Onitsha and charged them to diligently carry out the pastoral works assigned to them. Bishop Nwokolo during the Trinity ordination explained that a Deacon is called to serve the church, and to work with its members in caring for the poor and look out for people with various challenges in order to guide them aright.
The Prelate urged them to continually stir up the gift of God that is in them in order to make Christ known to all people.
* The current industrial harmony at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, (COOUTH)
Amaku, Awka may be lost if the grievances of Resident Doctors at the hospital bordering on non payment of allowances and poor medical infrastructure in the institution are not urgently addressed by the Anambra State government. The doctors under the aegis of Association of Resident Doctors (ARD)-COOUTH said on Monday that they would withdraw their services without further notice if the harsh and poor working conditions persist. President ARD-COOUTH Dr. Onyebuchi Ichoku who spoke to newsmen said the decision was reached at the Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) following the expiration of a 21 working days ultimatum issued for the government to intervene.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has been urged to reduce the recently increased stallage fees in Anambra markets, especially in government-owned markets. Anambra Traders’ Forum which made the appeal in a statement made available to the media in Onitsha, the State commercial hub, lamented that the fee has become unbearable for most traders in the market especially with the current economic situation.
* The maiden photography exhibition in Southeast has been scheduled for Awka Anambra State on Aug. 31, this year. This was disclosed at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Anambra government and Natesa Consulting, Strategic Communication and Public Relations firm on Thursday. Hon. Don Onyenji, Commissioner of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism signed on behalf of Anambra government while Ms Augusta Nnadi, Co-Founder of Natesa Consulting signed on behalf of her firm.
