# Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Sylvia Ifemeje has said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has worked assiduously towards ensuring that all his manifesto promises to Ndi Anambra regarding the justice sector is achieved within the shortest possible time.
Speaking on “Achievements of this administration in line with Mr Governor’s manifesto: the journey so far” at a one-day seminar for lawyers with the Anambra State Ministry of Justice with the theme; “The law officer and the practice of the law”, Professor Ifemeje explained that in line with the Soludo administration’s drive to promulgate laws that have appropriate relevance to the contemporary society, more bills are ready to be transmitted to the legislature, in addition to 18 executive bills already passed into law.
The pending bills, according to the Justice Commissioner are; public health bill, criminal code bill, correctional services bill, and Anambra State Development and planning bill.
# The Executive Director, Social and Integral Development Centre, Mrs. Ugochi Ehiaburuike, says gender inclusion is critical to the achievement of sustainable development.
Ehiahuruike also traced poor leadership in the country continuous exclusion of women from corridor of power.
The Executive Director stated this at Ogbaru Main Market during a market sensitization on gender equity, social inclusion and accountability organized by for Anambra North senatorial district organized by SIDEC in collaboration with the Joint National Association of Persons with Disability, (JONAPWD), and the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS).
# The Archdeacon, CHS Awka Archdeaconry, Ven.Dr OnyekaChukwu Egwuonwu has insisted that for men to live longer, their burden and emotions must be shared with someone they cherish, mostly their wives or older men and women who they look up to in life.
Ven.Dr. Egwuonwu was worried about who men must share their burdens and emotions with to avoid being misled, during an hour with God seminar for Christian Men Association of the Church of The Holy Spirit, Awka.
The vicar CHS, Awka warned men to resist sharing their burdens and emotions with the other women and people not compatible with their Christian life but their spouses and Christian Men.
# The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Felix Odimegwu says Anambra State Government has put in place a large group of plastic waste pickers across the state to save Anambra from environmental devastation.
Dr. Odimegwu who disclosed this at the Auditorium of Nnamdi Azikiwe University during the 2025 World Environment Day celebration organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences, disclosed that government has through the initiative, removed thousands of plastic waste from the environment, adding that the Ministry of Environment has been sensitising the citizens on proper environmental practices to curb plastic waste pollution in the state.
On her part, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Carol Arinze-Umeobi represented by Professor Vincent Okoye while commenting on the theme of the celebration which is “Together we can beat plastic pollution” called on all to desist from actions that cause damage to the environment such as global warming, pollution of air, water, deforestation, saying that the United Nations fixed fifth of June every year to serve as a platform to fashion out ways to safeguard and restore the planet, encouragingly government, business owners, and individuals to drive sustainable changes towards a healthy environment.
# Prof. Godwin Onu, a distinguished scholar from the Department of Political Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been appointed as a member of the Professorial Endowment Committee of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo. His appointment was formally confirmed over the weekend, with the letter of appointment presented by the President-General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Distinguished Senator John Azuta-Mbata, at the organization’s headquarters in Enugu.
Prof. Onu, who previously served as the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, is a respected authority in public policy and administration, ethnic studies, federalism, and international relations. His scholarly contributions and leadership experience continue to shape discourse on governance and development across Nigeria.
In further recognition of his expertise, Prof. Onu is scheduled to deliver a landmark keynote paper titled “Harnessing the Power of Interstate Collaboration to Unlock the South-East’s Full Economic Potentials” at the inaugural AT Roundtable hosted by Anambra Times. The event is set to take place on June 19 at the Hilton Leisure Resort and Hotel, Awka.
# The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Njikoka one Constituency, Ambassador Chukwuemeka Nwachukwu, has resigned his membership of the party.
This was contained in a letter delivered to the Ward Chairman, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ward 4, Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State.
# The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Anambra State says its decision to pull out from the parent body in the state is due to the high handedness of the State Chairman of NUJ, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu.
The Correspondents’ Chapel, in a communique signed by David Eleke (Chairman); Emma Elekwa (Secretary); Nwanosike Onu, Tony Okafor, Obinna Unaeze, and unanimously endorsed by all the members, announced its decision to disassociate itself from the State Council, citing high-handedness and threats to life by the council’s chairman, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu.
According to the communique issued after their June Congress, the Chapel unanimously endorsed the leadership of Chief Chuks Ilozue and his Executive Committee, while pledging their loyalty to the national body of the NUJ.
# The Anambra State Executive Council has approved the establishment of the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC).
The approval was granted during the council’s 10th executive meeting held at government House .
This move followed the recently enacted Anambra State Electricity Law, signed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, which empowers the state to generate electricity and license investors interested in electricity generation within Anambra.
The Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka, described the creation of ASERC as a major step in the right direction.
Chukwuemeka stated that the commission would play a critical role in driving the state government’s agenda for improved power generation and distribution.
