* Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation has called for collaboration in creating awareness towards ending the mistreatment, neglect and exploitation of the elderly. Former Minister of Women Affairs and proprietress of the foundation, Iyom Josephine Anenih, made the call in Awka. According to the former Minister, there is need to cater to the needs of aged and address the impacts of dementia in the society.

* Abagana Welfare Union holds youth election at the National Secretariat Abagana Welfare Union, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. The election saw the emergence of a brand new youth oriented leadership in the community after eight (8) years of noticable division. After a fierce contest, Comrade Emeka Okajiegbe emerged winner Abagana ASATU Youth President with 70 votes cast beating his closest rival Mr. Uchenna Umeadi who got 26 votes; other newly elected officials includes, First Vice: Mr. Okeke Uche, Second Vice: Mr. Okafor Onyeka, Secretary: Mr. Emeh Amandi Assistant; Moses Chiemelie, Financial Secretary: Emmanuel Oguejiofor Treasurer: MacAnthony Ofole. PRO 1: Ikechukwu John. PRO 2: Augustine Okechukwu amongst others

* The Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye has been honoured by Umuada Amawbia, popularly known as “Ugbogiliga” in Awka South LGA. Okoye who is the member representing Awka South two constituency in his speech at the event held at Amawbia town hall field,
expressed gratitude to the Umuada Amawbia and his community for their unwavering support and pledged to continue serving the state with dedication and excellence. Okoye, a distinguished son of Amawbia, known for his philanthropic and exceptional representative of the constituency and vibrancy in the seventh and eighth assembly, called for unity of purpose in the town and a de-escalation in internal politics to move the town forward, urging all warring parties to shield their sword.

* The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo has launched an ambitious tree planting campaign in Awka to combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability. Mrs. Soludo emphasized the critical importance of tree planting in mitigating climate change, enhancing air quality, and preserving biodiversity, describing the initiative as a key component of the state government’s broader environmental conservation efforts. She highlighted her “Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo” initiative, which focuses on transforming health and the environment, stating that trees play a vital role in the ecosystem, not only by beautifying our environment but also by contributing to global efforts against climate change.

* A philanthropist Chief Okwudili Ugochukwu has sponsored the first maiden edition of inter-schools quiz competition for secondary schools in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The quiz competition, organized by Nnobi Youth Graduate Forum under the umbrella of association of Nnobi youths, was aimed at promoting academic excellence, teamwork and healthy competition among the secondary schools in Nnobi.
Zion Secondary School, Nnobi emerged the grand winner of the competition while Christ The King Seminary School, Nnobi came second while the third position went to Our Lady’s Secondary School, Nnobi.

* As part of activities marking this year’s 2024 Africa Day celebration, the Ultimate Destiny Uplifters Foundation has empowered young people to take leadership roles and explore opportunities through the knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and other digital skills. At a one-day workshop, on in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State, to commemorate this year’s edition, UDUF deemed it fit to equip the youths with artificial intelligence and other digital skills that will help them thrive in the digital age and to shape them for a better future and for the society as a whole.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has assured the land allotees of Trans-Nkisi Phase two that their lands are secured. The Governor who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Security, Maazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu said that government cannot allow any form of indiscipline, impunity and intimidation of any kind to thrive in the state. Addressing the land allottees, Maazi Okpalaezeukwu said that they visited the plots for an on-the-spot assessment following series of petitions written by the allottees that their lands have been taken by land grabbers who stationed armed men in the said layout, and that most of them who tried to develop their properties were beaten and their property demolished.

* The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze says 21 bills, 62 motions and more than 70 resolutions, reports from committees has scaled through in the past one year. Rt. Hon. Udeze while interacting with House of Assembly Correspondents on Monday, commended the present Anambra lawmakers on the achievements and the journey soo far. The Speaker revealed that in the past 12 months, the present lawmaker’s have achieved more in one year compared to the previous houses of Assembly in Anambra State.

* The Vicar, Church of The Holy Spirit Awka, Venerable Dr Onyeka Egwuonwu has enjoined Christians to get rid of unwholesome attitudes and vices from their hearts if they profess Jesus Christ as their lord and personal saviour.
Egwuonwu Stated this during 2024 Holy Communion Sunday service at the Church of The Holy Spirit Awka to welcome newly confirmed and those admitted into Girls and Mothers union. He encouraged Christians not to habour vices particularly malice, lies, greed and pretensions in their hearts as these vices are destructive. He urged those habouring sadism in their hearts to let go by embracing the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

* Master Okwukwe Ezeobiora of Marist Comprehensive College, Nteje has emerged the overall Best Student in the Senior Category of the 5th Edition of Dr.Chinedu Umeadi Foundation, Annual Science Quiz Competition, while Miss Ebere Okparakunne of Queen of Rosary College, QRC, Onitsha emerged the overall Best Student in the Junior Category of the competition. The students went home with three hundred-thousand-naira cash award for their outstanding performances. The award presentation held at the Utility Hall of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Awka attracted students from selected secondary schools, their teachers, officials of Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation, staff of ASUBEB and Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, among others.
