* Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo has assured that any child with cleft deformity living in the state must be captured in the ongoing free treatment of cleft lip and palate. The governor’s wife stated this in Awka while assessing progress reports of the exercise which began in Anambra State just recently. According to her, it is important to ensure that the programme achieves wider coverage so as to have optimum effects and get to children that have been hidden away because of the deformity.
* Chidi Livinus Udemadu the lawmaker who represented Ihiala 1 state constituency in the just concluded 7th Assembly of Anambra state has stated that he didn’t disappoint the people of Ihiala 1 constituency in all the 8 years he served in the House of Assembly. Udemadu who made this declaration during his valedictory speech on the floor of the House of Assembly, said also that himself and the Deputy Speaker Paschal Agbodike who represented Ihiala 2 state constituency, broke the jinx of single term in Ihiala local government area.
* Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has expressed sadness and pains at the news of the death of former Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Chief Annie Okonkwo, popularly known as (Okaka Ojoto). Soludo noted that as a prominent son of Anambra State who hails from Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area of the State, the late Senator Okonkwo has paid his own dues trying to serve the State.The Governor, on behalf of Anambra State Government and the entire people of the State, commiserates with the family and friends of the deceased over this painful loss.
* The Department of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has held the first in the series of the annual Lecture and academic Endowment in honour of Associate Professor Levi Chukwurah Ezeaku. The event which had in attendance students, lecturers, political appointees, family members, friends and well wishes among others, took place at the Department. Associate Professor Levi Chukwurah Ezeaku was the first Head of Department of Economics when ASUTECH changed to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka in 1991/1992.
* The immediate past 7th legislature of Anambra State at its final plenary bestowed an award of meritorious service on the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Hon. Amalachukwu Kenneth Anazodo. Anazodo who represented Nnewi-North state constituency in the 6th assembly and who was equally the Special Adviser to ex-Governor Willie Obiano on National and State Assembly Matters, told correspondents shortly after his grand recognition that he was full of gratitude for having been found worthy to be recognized and celebrated by his peers in the legislature.
* The Chairman, Post Primary School Service Commission, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu has assured that no stone will be left unturned to ensure the best education is provided for Anambra children. Ikediugwu who gave the assurance at the PPSSC Corporate headquarters, Awka during a media chat said that the education system in Anambra has already taken a new shape since Governor Soludo came onboard.
* Igwe Dubem Iweka (EzeIweka III) of Obosi kingdom in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State has commended the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Idemili Branch, for immortalising three late legal luminaries of Obosi origin. EzeIweka gave the commendation recently after the inauguration of the ultramodern Idemili Bar Center built at Ogidi High Court premises which was facilitated by the Administrative Judge, Idemili Judicial Division, Honorable Justice Peter Obiora and commissioned by Anambra State Chief Judge, Honorable Justice Onochie Anyachebelu.
* The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe has been voted and therefore emerged Anambra Woman of the Year, 2022. The public voting process had other exceptional Anambra women as nominees including renowned author, Chimamanda Adichie, Industrialist, Ada Chukwudozie, activist, Oby Ezekwesili, former Nigerian Ambassador To Spain, Bianca Ojukwu, and oil mogul, Uju Ifejika. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe secured a remarkable 3,206 votes (39.58%) of the 8100 votes to claim the coveted title of Anambra Woman of the Year.
* Tansian University, a faith-based tertiary institution located in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area has matriculated over five hundred new students into different programmes offered by the University. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Eugene Nwadialor in his speech during the event pointed out that the institution is poised towards offering quality education to her students in safe and secure environment and within stipulated time frame, emphasizing that discipline remains the watch word of the institution.
