* Pensioners in Anambra State have commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his prompt payment of pensions and check-off dues of pensioners in the State, as well as his prompt and regular payment of workers’ salaries, among other packages his administration doles out for the benefit of pensioners and workers in the State. The State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) Anambra State Council, Comrade Dr. A.C. Ugozor gave the commendation in his address at the 2024 State Council Meeting of the Union held in Awka, the state capital. Ugozor said they were recently given a national Award of Excellence and also recently got recognized as the Number one state in remittance of Union check off dues in Nigeria at the NEC meeting of the Union held in Akure, Ondo State on November 29, 2023.

* The Anambra State Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA), Chief Sir Ifeatu Obi-Okoye has urged all to join hands with government to build the future we want. Obi-Okoye made the statement as Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day, stating that, the occasion must come with a deep reflection of the progress recorded so far in the nation’s democratic experiment. Chief Obi-Okoye said, Democracy Day remained a rallying symbol around which Nigerians’ aspirations for hope, unity, better condition of living and true democratic practices were built. He stated that, the commemoration of the Democracy Day should be a reminder of the importance of joining hands to build the future of all citizens desires, without recourse to fanning religious differences and other dividing fault lines.

* Anambra State House of Assembly commends Governor Chukwuma Soludo
on the construction of Oyeagu-Abagana-Nimo road. The Deputy Majority Leader of the 8th assembly Hon. Jude Akpua the sponsor of the motion while leading the debate stated that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended entrust the State with the responsibility of providing adequate facilities so as to encourage free mobility of people, goods and services throughout the federation. Akpua who is the member representing Njikoka two constituency in his presentation maintained that the construction of the Oyeagu-Abagana-Nimo road was awarded by the administration of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in line with keeping to his campaign promises to the people of Njideka two and Umuowele in particular.

* Anambra State Government says it received over N400 million from the Federal Government as oil and gas derivation fund as at end of December  2023. The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Chiamaka Nnake, made this known when she appeared before the House of Assembly Public Accounts Committee at the legislative building in Awka. According to Nnake, the state was however still working to validate the allocation accruable to the state, following its oil producing status. The Commissioner described the Public Account as a process that had been in the Finance and Appropriation Law, aimed at ensuring accountability and openness in governance.

* A political support group under the aegis of Soludo Ambassadors led by the convener, Hon. Chief Ossy Onuko has felicitated with the people of Anambra, Nigerians on the commemoration of 2024 Democracy Day. In his congratulatory message, Onuko said, despite its imperfection, democracy remains the best option for the country, stating that, through the determination of the citizens and their active participation in the democratic process, we can achieve a truly great country of our dreams. He urged Nigerians not to relent in their search for lasting peace as a necessary condition for progress and prosperity. He saluted heroic deeds of patriots that worked assiduously to actualize democratic rule in the country.

* The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command CP Nnaghe Obono Itam commends the State Government and House of Assembly members, as Governor Chukwuma Soludo signed into law on a jail term of a minimum of 21 years with no option of fine on any person found culpable of cult-related activities.
The Governor also approved the legal confinement of six months or the option to pay half a million naira on anyone harassing innocent individuals to obtain illegal tolls, illegal scalpers, or any related activities in the State. The CP noted that these developments shall further reecho the campaign and stand against touting and cultism, especially the Police on the advocacy program; Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, a program targeted to sensitize the youths of the dangers of bad groups, drugs, and other vices.

* Anambra State House of Assembly Members on Tuesday June 12th mark its one year anniversary in office. The Members of the 8th Assembly members in their separate speech commended their constituents for giving them the opportunity to represent them. The Speaker, Rt Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze in his speech said the Assembly’s greatest achievement is the spirit of unity and love in their legislative duties for the benefit of Ndi Anambra. Udeze stated that the 8th Assembly has excelled in lawmaking, constituency relations, and oversight functions, having passed fourteen bills, eleven of which have been signed into law. He also disclosed that the House has recorded over 60 people-oriented and development-driven resolutions and that lawmakers have attracted significant projects through the state government.

* Anambra Firstlady Mrs. Nonye Soludo has sponsored the enrollment of one thousand (1,000) persons with special needs into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA). Anambra governor’s wife, who is also the founder of the non-governmental crusade, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, said that she was proud to support the beneficiaries who are from the 179 communities in the state and that it free of charge. Mrs. Soludo in her address said that the intervention was a testament to her husband’s administration’s shared commitment to the well-being of people with special needs, particularly those living in the grassroots. She pointed out that every one of the beneficiary would go home fully insured to receive free medical care in selected Anambra-based health facilities of their choice.

* Members of Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, have threatened to boycott coverage of State Government activities following nonchalance on the part of government towards them. The Chapel observed that since Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo came into office more than two years ago, its members have never been invited to government activities, nor ever had an interaction with the Governor. Part of the communique issued after its June meeting signed by the chairman Chuks Ilozue and Secretary Tochukwu Ifejika read: “Having reviewed our relationship with the governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo (CFR) and those of his media team, including the Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu and the Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Christian Aburime, for over two years, despite several correspondences, we wish to observe as follows: “There is a serious lacuna in the relationship between the chapel and government occasioned by nonchalant attitude of the governor, his government and his media team towards Correspondents’ Chapel.

* Widows and elderly women at St. Edward’s Parish, Amawbia, in Awka South LGA of Anambra State, had a day to remember, recently, when the Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye, gave out a cash of N20, 000 to them to mark his knighthood as a member of the St Michael the Arch Angel Brotherhood. The lawmaker who gave the gesture, praised God for giving him the privilege to serve the public, as well in his vineyard.

Okoye stressed the need for wealthy people to always give hope to the hopeless and less privileged in society.
