* The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu, has stated that his administration’s focus would be hinged on the ‘HPS Squared Philosophy’ which translates to ‘Happy Productive Staff’ and ‘Happy Progressive Students’. Ikechebelu made these assertions while fielding questions from journalists upon assumption of duty as the Chief overseer of administrative and academic activities in the University. The Ag. VC stressed that for an educational institution to attain it set goal of achieving academic excellence, institutional growth and development; the staff performance is paramount and a very key aspect in attaining success stories. He informed that staff welfare through administrative promotions as and when due, professional training and retraining of staff members and other incentives are instrumental to the course as seen in the past administration under the outgone Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone.
* Anambra PDP under the leadership of Engr. Chigozie Igwe, the state chairman, seems to have end the eighteen year lingering leadership crisis as it appears to have been resolved following the collapse of the factional structures of Chief Uba and Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu. Also, the remnants of the Valentine Ozigbo faction have also collapsed their structures into the party ahead of the 2025 governorship election in the State. Recall that the party has been factionalized for years from the regime of the then governor, Dr. Chris Ngige producing two factions while the second faction was led by Ukachukwu.
During the last governorship primary election of the party, the emergence of Mr Valentine Ozigbo also deepened the crisis in the party as most party members worked against his candidacy.
* In a bold declaration, Owelle Mbaso, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that the party is set to take over the governance of Anambra State in 2025. According to Mbaso, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has lost its way and is desperately clinging to the legacy of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, without upholding his values.
Mbaso drew parallels with the situation in Abia State, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was ousted by the Labour Party( LP) in the last election. He noted that despite efforts to suppress Dr. Alex Otti, the masses rallied behind him, and Abia State is now thriving under the new administration.
* The Managing Director of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, has said that the agency and community pharmacists playing integral role is the way to go in ensuring improved health condition of the people through health insurance scheme that helps in achieving Universal Health Coverage, a fundamental human right. In his keynote speech at the 33rd annual conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, ACPN, Anambra State chapter, Dr Onyemaechi described Universal Health Coverage as a dream, journey and destination that requires involvement of major stakeholders in the health sector.
* Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha has paid a condolence visit to the family of Prof. C.C. Chukwueloka of the Department of English Language over the sudden death of his Wife. Omenugha enjoined Prof. Chukwueloka to take solace in the Lord for he has promised never to allow a burden that is bigger than us to be upon us. “The University Community will stand by you in this journey and see that you pull through. May the ever-gracious God give you the heart to bear this very painful irreplaceable loss. Please, keep us in the know as we progress” She said.
* Anambra State government has commiserated with the victims of Wednesday’s building collapse at Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha. The Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche regrets the rate of building collapse in the state.
The Special Duties Commissioner promised that the state government is taking steps to ensure that the menace becomes a thing of the past. She urged Council for the Regulation of Engineers in Nigeria, COREN and members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, to partner the government in monitoring building sites in the state especially in ensuring that developers only employ well-, trained and certified contractors for any construction project.
* The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu has assured the Student Union Government of prompt release of students’ results after examination and quick restoration of power on campus. The Ag. Vice-Chancellor made the remarks at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room while receiving the Student Union executives led by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Chinonso Achebe, who paid him a courtesy visit on assumption of office as Acting Vice-Chancellor. In his speech during the visit, the President of the SUG, Mr. Izuchukwu Ejikeme congratulated Prof. Ikechebelu for emerging as Ag. Vice-Chancellor of the institution, expressing unwavering confidence that the Ag. VC would deliver more than expected in the best interest of the University looking back at his track record and evidential accomplishments both as a scholar and entrepreneur. The student leader pledged the unflinching support of the student body to Prof. Ikechebelu’s administration while the SUG EXCO made a presentation of the Holy Bible and a plaque of honour to the Ag. Vice-Chancellor.
* Anambra Firstlady Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has launched a strategic operation to end drug abuse in the state. Mrs Soludo In her speech, shortly before unveiling the campaign on Thursday June 13, noted that drug abuse prevalence is a threatening menace that seemed to have been approached with kid-gloves techniques. The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, stated that the campaign is designed to track drug spread through strategic collaborations. She said that it had then become a new responsibility that must be tackled head-on, adding that to get it right, there has to be a mindset that thinks more of the solution than the problems.
* A community leader in Nri Anaocha Local Government Area, Chief Moses Enujiugha says series of awards being conferred on Governor Chukwuma Soludo are testaments that all his achievements in Anambra State are recognized both locally and internationally. Speaking in an interview in Awka, Chief Enujiugha who described governance as herculean task, charged the people of Anambra State to continue with their support and prayers to Governor Chukwuma Soludo who he noted has through his purposeful leadership restored people’s confidence in governance.
* Anambra State High Court sitting in Onitsha has ordered the Nigeria Police to pay N5 million to an Onitsha-based panel beater, Mr. Friday Onyeobi for wrongful arrest, detention and torture. The Onitsha High Court 4 presided over by Justice S. N. Odili. also restrained the Police from further arrest, harassment or intimidation of Mr. Onyeobi. Onyeobi’s lawyer, Callistus Mmagu, had dragged the Police and Esiobi Okwudili to court, praying the court to pay damages to his client for the torture and wrongful detention. Okwudili Esiobi who was Onyeobi’s friend had taken Rav Four car to him at Omagba Phase II, Onitsha, to sell for him.
