# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced that approval has been secured for the establishment of a Nigerian Army brigade in Anambra State as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and sustain peace across the state.

Speaking in Awka during the third anniversary celebration of the 8th Anambra State House of Assembly on Friday, the governor disclosed that the new military formation would include the construction of a barracks and the deployment of hundreds, potentially up to a thousand soldiers, to the state.

According to Soludo, a delegation from the Nigerian Army visited him recently regarding the proposed brigade, and the request has now received approval.

The governor noted that the state is already making significant progress in its fight against crime and insecurity, stressing that peace has gradually returned to communities across Anambra.

Prof. Soludo attributed part of the success to the support and collaboration of the administration of President Bola Tinubu, which he said has intensified efforts to tackle insecurity nationwide.

He expressed optimism that the deployment of the new brigade would further strengthen security operations, enhance rapid response capabilities, and consolidate the gains already recorded in restoring safety and stability across Anambra State.

# Owner of Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, Pastor Harrison Charles has been arrested by operatives of Agunechemba following a viral video containing several allegations against him.

Pastor Harrison Charles is currently being investigated by the police, in collaboration with the Anambra State Government.

During his arrest, about eleven babies were found in his home. He claims to be the father of these eleven babies, stating they are from eleven of his wives.

He also claims he does not know the number of wives he has married or the total number of children he has.

While investigations continue, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, has urged anyone with additional information to report it to the State Government via 08034182108.

# The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Engr. Eric Nnamdi Anyamene, has described the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, as a symbol of hope for millions of Nigerians.

Speaking with journalists at his country home in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Anyamene said Obi embodies the kind of transformational leadership Nigeria urgently needs.

He noted that Obi’s commitment to nation-building, youth empowerment, education, production-driven economic growth and good governance continues to resonate with Nigerians across all regions of the country.

Describing Obi as “a beautiful bride” in Nigeria’s political landscape, Anyamene said the former Anambra State governor’s ideals align closely with his own vision for the development of Idemili North and South Federal Constituency.

# The Anambra State House of Assembly has marked its third anniversary, with both Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze commending the strong working relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.

Speaking during the anniversary celebration held on June 12, Udeze disclosed that the 8th Assembly has enacted 45 laws and passed more than 90 motions within three years, all aimed at promoting good governance and development across the state.

The Speaker attributed the Assembly’s achievements to the cordial relationship between lawmakers and the Soludo’s administration, noting that the legislature has also recorded an unprecedented number of private member bills.

According to Udeze, Governor Soludo has assented to 17 private member bills, the highest such record in the history of the state’s legislature.

The Speaker identified the Anambra State Local Government Administration Law as one of the Assembly’s landmark achievements, explaining that the legislation provides practical solutions to local government administration and autonomy. He noted that several states are already studying the Anambra model because of its innovative approach to governance.

Udeze also highlighted the Homeland Security Law, describing it as a critical legal framework designed to address security challenges in the state and support ongoing efforts to protect lives and property.

# The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Maku Olatunde, on behalf of senior officers and men of the Command, heartily felicitates the Government and people of Nigeria as the nation commemorate the 27th anniversary of unbroken democracy.

While saluting the courage and gallantry of officers and men of the Corps in protecting critical national, state, and local government assets and infrastructure, and in sustaining the nation’s thriving democracy, the State Commandant charged personnel to remain subordinate to civil authority and uphold the fundamental rights of citizens at all times.

Commandant Olatunde advised officers and men to remain politically neutral and steer clear of partisan politics in line with professional Standard Operating Procedures, rules of engagement, and the Corps’ code of conduct.

The State Commandant pledged the unalloyed loyalty of NSCDC Anambra State Command to the Government and people of Nigeria. He assured that the Corps will continue to do everything within its powers and available resources, including partnering with relevant stakeholders, to effectively discharge its statutory responsibilities of safeguarding lives, property, and critical assets, even in the face of current security challenges.

He further restated the commitment of the Commandant General of NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, to reposition the Corps for greater efficiency, and called for the cooperation of all citizens in achieving this mandate.

# The Anambra State Government has stepped up enforcement efforts against illegal market structures, directing market leaders across major commercial centres in the state to comply with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s urban renewal and market reorganisation policy.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, issued the directive during an inspection visit to Nkwo Agbo-Edo Market in Nnewi, where officials of the ministry marked several shanties and unauthorized structures for demolition.

According to the commissioner, the exercise is aimed at restoring markets to their approved layouts, ensuring adequate access roads, parking spaces, and improved movement within market environments. He noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader efforts to promote orderliness, safety, and proper infrastructure development across markets in the state.

Ojukwu lamented that the proliferation of illegal structures has obstructed free movement in many markets and warned that all future developments within market premises must receive official approval from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development before construction begins.

He therefore urged market executives and leaders to intensify awareness campaigns among traders and shop owners, encouraging them to voluntarily remove unauthorized structures to avoid sanctions and demolition.

In response, the Chairman of Agbo-Edo Market F-Line, Mr. Chukwudi Oranekwu, acknowledged that Governor Chukwuma Soludo had previously engaged market leaders on the matter. He assured the government that market authorities would strengthen sensitisation efforts to ensure traders comply with the directive.

# The Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONet) has expressed concern that worsening economic hardship and growing voter apathy pose serious threats to Nigeria’s democratic future, urging leaders and institutions to take urgent action to restore public confidence in governance and the electoral process.

In a Democracy Day statement, ACSONet Chairman, Prince Chris Azor, said the June 12 celebration should go beyond commemorating democratic rule and serve as an opportunity to reflect on the challenges confronting both Nigerians and the country’s democratic institutions.

The group noted that despite nearly three decades of uninterrupted democratic governance, many Nigerians continue to struggle with rising living costs, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power. According to ACSONet, democracy should not be judged solely by the conduct of elections but by its ability to improve citizens’ welfare and quality of life.

Azor emphasized that June 12 symbolizes the sacrifices made by Nigerians in the struggle for democratic governance and warned that persistent economic difficulties could further erode public trust in democratic institutions if not addressed.

ACSONet called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen social protection programmes and ensure that economic reforms translate into tangible benefits for citizens through job creation, support for small businesses, improved healthcare, quality education and effective social safety nets.

The organization also urged state governors to utilize increased revenues to deliver visible improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture and security, stressing that citizens expect meaningful development and sustainable economic opportunities.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has commended the Anambra State 8th House of Assembly, for its commitment and services in the past three years.

In his address, on June 12, Soludo reflected on Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, stressing that despite its imperfections, democracy remains preferable to any alternative form of governance and must be protected through collective commitment and responsible citizenship.

The governor praised the 8th Assembly as one of the most productive in Anambra’s history, noting that the Local Government Administration Law has enhanced grassroots governance, improved fiscal management, and facilitated the settlement of gratuity arrears owed to retirees.

He added that the Homeland Security Law has further strengthened the state’s security architecture.

# The Head of the Management Information System Unit, Bursary Department, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Mrs. Amaka Ezeogu, has been decorated as the first female Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Awka and District Society.

The programme, which was the eleventh investiture ceremony in the series, made Mrs. Ezeogu, who is also the Chief Accountant of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, the eleventh Chairman of the association.

The event also featured the inauguration of the 2026/2027 District Executive Committee of the association and the presentation of awards to some personalities who distinguished themselves in various aspects of life and contributed immensely to ICAN, Awka and District Society.

The outgoing Chairman, Mr. Onyeka Anyadufu, in his speech, commended members for their support and the team of like-minded professionals he worked with, which made his administration successful, outlined some of the achievements recorded during his tenure, and expressed confidence that the new Chairman, Mrs. Ezeogu, would perform excellently because of her wealth of experience and knowledge.

The new Chairman, Mrs. Amaka Ezeogu, during her acceptance and inaugural speech, thanked God for the achievement, appreciated all members and guests who came to celebrate with her and make the day memorable, and outlined her administration’s agenda, which includes strengthening the ICAN brand and visibility, continuous training and professional development, district land acquisition, the ICAN scholarship scheme, among other initiatives.

# Nnewi Solution Team has insisted that the position of HRH Igwe Dr. K.O.N. Orizu III on the Nnewi North Local Government Area election is sacrosanct.

Speaking at a well-attended meeting, the Convener of the group, Chief Gabriel Chukwuma, said there is no going back on securing justice for Nnewichi Community, whose turn it is to produce the next LGA chairman.

The President of Gabros Group noted that the commitment shown by members who defied a heavy downpour to attend the meeting demonstrated their passion for the betterment of the industrial town rather than any personal interest.

Chief Chukwuma stated that Nnewi Solution Team is not out to fight anyone, stressing that its members are well-meaning individuals who desire only the best for Anaedo.
