* Anambra State Nigeria Union of journalists has appealed to the governor of the state Prof Charles Soludo to reconsider his intention to shut the state newspaper, the National Light. Recalled that there were believes in some quarters that the state government wants to shut the operation of the state owned newspaper. In a Communique jointly signed by the Chairman Anambra State NUJ, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and Secretary comrade Aloysius Ofodile released after the June meeting, urged Soludo to reconsider any  intention to shut Anambra Newspapers and Printing Corporation, ANPC, Publishers of National Light Newspapers.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state has rescued premature new born babies from death at Enugwu-Ukwu General Hospital Njikoka local government area of the state. The State Commissioner for Health Dr. Ben Afam Obidike who disclosed this said the governor has again reiterated his commitment to saving more lives especially children through comprehensive healthcare delivery.

* Stakeholders in the justice delivery sector have called for synergy among members of the bar, the bench and law enforcement agencies, as a way of further deepening the dispensation of justice in Nigeria. The calls came during the 26th Bar Week of the Awka Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, which was held in Awka, the Anambra State Capital, recently.

* The first ever “Dunukofia Security Awareness and Orientation Program For Dunukofia Communities” has been concluded, courtesy of Hon. Onyemaobi Augustine Nonyelum, Mayor of Dunukofia. The security summit is in line with Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s policy of a livable and prosperous homeland for Ndi Anambra through the protection of lives and property.

* A Catholic cleric and professor of philosophy UNIZIK, Rev. Fr. Prof Bona Uchenna Umeogu, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to show more responsibility by giving ears to the cries of vulnerable Nigerians. He lamented the current social-economic challenges Nigerians, mostly, the poor are going through at the moment, as a result of the subsidy removing agenda of the present government, couple with the already existing ones.

* The Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Amichi, The Rt. Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor, has said that anybody answering or parading himself or herself as an Evangelist without being trained and commissioned by him or any other Anglican Bishop is a fraudster, and should be treated as such. Ikeakor restated this recently, while presenting his Presidential Address at the third Session of the Fifth Synod of the Diocese, held at the St. Philip’s Church, Eziama Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

* Concerned Residents and Landlords of Otigba Enuovuve Layout, Nkwelle -Ezunaka Layout, Oyi  Local Government Area of Anambra State have asked the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Awka, to stop construction of the illegal structures blocking the Onitsha-Otuocha  road at the Layout. In a petition sent to the chairman of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board signed by the chairman of the Concerned members of the layout, Mr. John Okafor and secretary, Mr. Dennis Umeh, they alleged that one Mr. Chinazor Ezeayom, popularly known as Ikemba has been brazenly building block of stores on the Main road without the approval and authorisation of the Physical Planning Board and other agencies responsible for such approvals for construction and erection of structures.

* Finalists have emerged at the ongoing zonal eliminations series of the Anambra School Sports Festival across the three senatorial districts in the state. A 2-day zonal eliminations series were staged at Nnewi High School, Nnewi and Isuofia Community Secondary School for Anambra South District, while Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium Onitsha and Otuocha Stadium Aguleri  hosted Anambra North District.

* Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has commiserated with the family of Mrs. Onyinye Okafor, who was recently swept away by flood in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of the State. It would be recalled that a mother of five was swept away by flood along the Ekwulobia/Oko Expressway on Tuesday June 6, 2023, following a heavy downpour that badgered that day and the consequent flooding that accompanies it. The victim was said to have come out from the First City Monument Bank where she went to perform some transactions, and then boarded a tricycle to go back to where she parked her motorcycle, only for the tricycle she boarded to get trapped in the pool of flood, which was also tossing it around, with the passengers on board.

* Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo has urged parents to take the issues of healthy living and hygiene habits more seriously, considering the dwindling standards of family health in most homes. Mrs. Soludo who stated this in Awka, said she was worried about the growing negligence of basic healthy living habits in some families, with parents paying less or no attention.
