# The Anambra State Government, led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has extended its campaign against fake native doctors to include fake pastors and other individuals posing as genuine religious leaders while allegedly engaging in criminal activities.
In a statement, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, said the move is part of the government’s efforts to combat criminality and sanitize both traditional worship and religious practices in the state, with the aim of restoring law, order, and public confidence.
According to the statement, residents are encouraged to provide credible information about pastors, churches, or self-acclaimed men of God involved in criminal acts such as fraud, extortion, deception, or any activity that threatens lives, peace, and security in communities.
Anambra government assured residents that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
Mefor noted that contrary to criticisms from some quarters, the campaign is not aimed at suppressing genuine religious or traditional practices but rather at protecting legitimate worshippers and practitioners from individuals who exploit religion and culture for criminal purposes.
The Commissioner called on residents to support the initiative by reporting suspicious activities, stressing that collective action is necessary to rid the state of criminals hiding under the guise of religion, culture, and tradition.

# Two male adults sustained minor injuries, while four other persons escaped unhurt in a road crash that occurred on Saturday at the Nkpor Bridge section of the Onitsha–Awka Expressway in Anambra State.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, Margaret Onabe, the crash involved a Mercedes-Benz articulated truck (registration number FTD581XA), two commercial shuttle buses (ENU540ZJ and BKL661XA), and an Audi Volkswagen car (ENU528MK).
The FRSC said its rescue team from the Upper Iweka Outpost responded promptly after receiving a distress call.
Preliminary investigations indicate that brake failure was the likely cause of the accident. Eyewitnesses reported that the articulated truck suffered brake failure, veered off the bridge, and landed on vehicles beneath it.
Before the arrival of FRSC personnel, the injured victims had already been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
To prevent further accidents and restore the free flow of traffic, the FRSC deployed its heavy-duty tow truck unit to remove the affected vehicles and clear the obstruction.
The Anambra State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, wished the injured victims a speedy recovery and urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated vehicles and commercial transport services, to carry out regular vehicle maintenance and ensure their braking systems are in good condition before embarking on journeys.

# Speaking against the ill treatment of widows after the d€ath of their husband, Anambra state commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, advised men to always prepare a will that would protect their wives and children in the case of death. According to him;

# Honourable Onyekachukwu Augustine Ike, the lawmaker representing Nnewi-North constituency has stated that the people of Nnewi will not tolerate any of desecration and disrespect to the traditional ruler of Nnewi ancient kingdom, His Royal Highness Igwe Kenneth Orizu.
Hon. Ike who spoke in an interview about the alleged disenfranchisement of Nnewi-Ichi community to produce the next chairman of Nnewi-North Local Government Area, said personally he has zero tolerance to any form disrespect to Igwe Nnewi, adding that wherever the traditional ruler stands on any issue is where the community stands.
The lawmaker explained that it was a taboo for Nzukora-Nnewi, the community town union to have written a counter letter to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo concerning what community produces the next chairman of the council area, when the traditional ruler had earlier written to the governor explaining to him that Nnewi-North has a single term rotational system for elective offices by way of written agreement which makes it the turn of Nnewi-Ichi community to produce the next local government chairman.
He said all the counter letters written to the governor were misleading but the truth of the matter remains that the entire community is with the traditional ruler in accordance with equity and fairness, stressing that Nnewi-Ichi community won’t be shortchanged.

The partners also distributed 250 solar-powered smart school bags to students across the state under the Lighting Young Minds Initiative, designed to support learning and inspire academic excellence among schoolchildren.
Of the beneficiaries, 100 women received sewing machines, while another 100 were presented with grinding machines to help them establish sustainable sources of income and improve their standard of living.

# The Anambra State Government has demolished a collapsed three-storey building under construction in Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The action is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen compliance with building regulations and protect lives and property.
The demolition was carried out by task force officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development following technical assessments that declared the structure unsafe and a threat to nearby residents and properties.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu, said the action aligns with the state government’s commitment to orderly urban development, public safety, and the strict enforcement of approved building standards.
He explained that the demolition was a preventive measure aimed at averting future disasters rather than punishing the developer, stressing that unsafe and distressed structures would not be tolerated.
# The Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University has dismissed five staff members over allegations of gross misconduct, including sexual abuse, harassment, extortion, intimidation, and other ethical violations.
According to a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, the decision was reached during the 122nd meeting of the institution’s 8th Governing Council held on June 12, 2026.
Those dismissed include: Prof C. C. Nwabachili, immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Chike Osegbue of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. I. H. Iheukwumere and Mr. Emeka Nwabunnia, both from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Uli Campus, over allegations bordering on sexual abuse, harassment, intimidation, extortion, and related misconduct.
Mrs. Ifeoma Kakulu, who served as Examination Officer for the Faculty of Law at the Examinations Unit, Igbariam Campus at the time of the alleged offence, was also dismissed.
The Governing Council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline, professionalism, and ethical standards within the institution, warning that actions capable of damaging the university’s reputation would attract severe sanctions.
The university stated that the disciplinary measures form part of ongoing efforts to protect students and staff, promote accountability, and uphold its vision of building a safe, transparent, and future-focused academic environment.
