* Anambra State Government has directed the immediate commencement of work at the site of the destroyed primary school in ‘Alah na Onugwa’ in Olumbanasaa, Anambra West Local Government Area. Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, issued the directive on behalf of Governor Chukwuma Soludo during her recent visit to Igbedor. The Education Commissioner stated that Governor Soludo’s commitment to human capital development is to ensure peaceful co-existence. She promised that the school must commence academic activities in September this year.

* The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State is deploying 1, 020 personnel, comprising regular and special Marshals to ensure free flow of traffic during of Eid-El-Kabir celebration in the state. Sector Commander, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, who disclosed this in a press conference in Awka said its personnel will man the identified troubled areas in the flash points of the state. Irelewuyi identified some of the flash points to include Enugu Onitsha expressway and the Old Awka-Onitsha Road, before Awka as well as the Upper Iweka. The FRSC boss also stated that the corps has deployed its men to the Aguata axis for vehicles moving towards Imo and other parts of the South East.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has assured the Trans-Nkisi Phase two land allottees that their lands are secured at all times. The governor who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Security, Maazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu said that the government cannot allow any form of indiscipline, impunity and intimidation of any kind to thrive in Anambra. Addressing the land allottees, Maazi Okpalaezeukwu said that they visited the plots for an on-the-spot assessment, following series of petitions written by the allottees that their lands have been taken by land grabbers who stationed armed men in the said layout, and that most of them who tried to develop their properties were beaten and their properties demolished.

* Coalition of Civil Society Networks on AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (ATM Networks) has called on the Anambra State Government to invest in disease control, eradication, and other evidence-based intervention programs to boost healthcare delivery in the state. The group urged government to key in and support using the government’s budget to drive the Community System Strengthening (CSS) programs of the ATM Networks in the state rather than allow foreign donors and partners to keep fighting diseases and other healthcare burdens of the people. The the group made the call at the State Media Meeting with Journalists on the ATM Anambra State Global Fund, GC-7/C19RM/RSSH project in the state.

* Motorists and pedestrians in Onitsha Anambra State can now move freely as Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigade) Agency have chased away street traders who create obstructions along roadsides. The presence of Ocha Brigade on the streets and major roads have scared away street traders and improved movement of motorists and pedestrians who are doing their normal daily businesses as well as curtailed rampant disposal of wastes on the drainage channels. Commending the duties of Ocha Brigade,  High Chief Okenna Joseph who lives at Borromeo round about, Onitsha said that the initiative of Anambra State Government to inaugurate Ocha brigade as among the enforcers of environmental law is superb.

* The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has condemned the morning attack at the Ogbaru Local Government Area Headquarters Secretariat by armed arsonists.The attack, which resulted in the destruction of four patrol vehicles belonging to the vigilantes, has been described as an act of cowardice. Notably, there were no casualties. According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, preliminary information indicates that the assailants, arriving in large numbers on motorcycles and a vehicle, began shooting indiscriminately.

However, they faced strong resistance from the Vigilante Operatives until the police response team arrived. Due to the superior firepower of the security operatives, the gunmen fled the scene. Unfortunately, four operational vehicles of the security operatives were engulfed in flames and severely damaged.

* Hypo Company has organized a clean up exercise at Nkpor main market in Idemili North Local Government Area. Hypo marketing agents were seen sweeping and cleaning up the market, pouring the waste in a waste bag to enable easy evacuation. The state environment and sanitation agencies were also on ground to help evacuate the waste. Hypo Area Marketing Manager, Mr Ifeanyi Okoye said that the event is aimed at extending cleanliness and sanitation campaign to traders and also a way to encourage them to maintain healthy lifestyle. He called on the traders to maintain a healthy environment.

* The National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Barr. Titus Akpudo, has commended the Commissioner for Local Governments, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. TonyCollins Nwabunwanne for delivering
for his intervention In Eziowelle Community. The commendations are coming in reaction to a recent publication by some people of Eziowelle where they accused Nwabunwanne of bias in handling the affairs of the community, especially with regards to the town union election of the community scheduled to hold on the 29th of June, 2024. Akpudo, who is also the President General of Eziowelle Improvement Union, EIU, explained that government has made enormous sacrifices to ensure that various factions in the community find a common ground to ensure peaceful conduct of the election on the scheduled date.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has enjoined fathers to lead their families with good morals and other virtues expected of responsible fathers and shun acts capable of debasing their integrity.
In his goodwill message to Nigerian fathers especially those in the Anglican Communion who also commemorate their day, Rt. Hon. Udeze extolled the contributions of fathers to the peace and progress of families and urged them to always work towards breeding responsible families. The Speaker encouraged fathers not to relent amid several discouragements, but to continue to offer their best to their families, reminding them that the family units are looking up to them for provision, guide and protection.

* The Tech-4-all in partnership with Institute of Electrical Electronic Engineers (IEEE) has empowered no fewer than 25 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), in Anambra State with laptops to enable them to excel professionally. This epoch making event was held at the MCITU software house UNIZIK, Awka at the closing/award giving ceremony of a five week digital Tech-4-all training specially designed for persons with disabilities. The Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu in his opening remark, commended the IEEE and Tech4all for this outstanding training.
