* The Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Owen Nwokolo has visited two survivors of the DMGS collapsed centenary building at the University on the Niger Teaching Hospital Iyi Enu where they are receiving treatment. The Prelate confirmed that the Diocese on the Niger has provided funds for their medical bills and daily upkeep.
The survivors who were visibly stable and in sound mind appreciated the Bishop for the visit and prayers while commending the level of professional medical care by the staff of the hospital.
* Alzheimer Disease Foundation, ADF, has restated its commitment to end all forms of abuse of elderly persons in Anambra State. The non-governmental organization gave the assurance during an event it organized to mark the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area. The event which took place at Amawbia town hall state began with a road walk by elderly persons who came out in their numbers to raise awareness on the various forms of abuses, maltreatments, and neglects elderly people pass through on a daily basis.
* Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has ordered an immediate manhunt operation on the armed men operating in a red Highlander jeep, who abducted a citizen in Nnewi on Monday June 17 and were trailed to Nnobi, where they engaged security operatives in a gun battle. According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, during the gun duel, one of the security Operatives was fatally hit by the bullet and due to the indiscriminate shootings by the hoodlums in an attempt to escape the scene, the bullet also fatally struck two innocent passersby in the area. The Police Responding Team at the scene recovered the bodies of the victims and took them to the hospital but regrettably, three of the victims including a 22-year-old lady were confirmed dead by the doctors on duty while two others are currently receiving treatment.
* The University On The Niger has welcomed about 300 students in various faculties at its maiden matriculation ceremony held at the Patterson Auditorium Conference Hall, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha. In a welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of Uni Niger, Prof. Chinedu Nebo said the University is intended to provide quality and affordable tertiary education, adopting best global practice in order to produce globally competitive graduates for national development. He urged the matriculants to work hard to emerge as leaders and drivers of the economy.
* Anambra lawmaker representing Aguata two state constituency in the 8th legislature and House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Health, Hon. Tony Muobike has saved children at Aguluezechukwu Community Secondary School from snakes and other rodents as they go to the bush to defecate due to lack of toilet facilities in the school. Muobike who disclosed this during his constituency briefing held at Orton Palace Hotel Ekwulobia recently, said he felt for the kids when he visited the school only to discover that the school has no toilet facilities and the children resorted to bush methods to ease themselves when they are pressed irrespective of the dangers inherent in using such unhygienic methods especially as it concerns female students.
* The Anambra State Government through Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade has sealed off an illegal sand mining site at the Onitsha end of the River Niger Bridge Head for illegal sand mining activities. This was a part of an enforcement and compliance exercise organised by the Brigade to kick against every illegal mining and touting activities going on in the area. The Managing Director, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, who led the exercise, expressed displeasure at the illegal sand dredging being conducted in the area and explained that the activities pose an environment threat to the state.
The OCHA Brigade boss disclosed that demand notices to provide the environmental impact assessment and other government approved documents on those engaging in the activity but were ignored which was why the state government had no option than to seal off the place.
* The investment opportunities and creative innovation opportunities in Anambra State are set to be on the global ecosystem mapping, for easy access by potential investors, innovators, creatives, and the general public who intend to tap into any. This formed part of the discussions at the Creative Innovation Ecosystem Consultative Value Chain Mapping Workshop that kicked off in Awka. The two-day workshop organized by Technology for Social Change and Development Initiative (Tech4Dev), and has the Anambra State Government, the UK International Development, and the Nigerian Creative Ecosystem Growth and Innovation Initiative as partners, while the participants were drawn from both the private and public sectors, with the State Ministry of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, as a principal actor.
* Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has commissioned a one hundred and twenty (120) solar-powered street lights
installed at Ifite-Enu village, Nimo Ward Three, in the Njikoka Council Area. Deputy Governor Ibezim while commissioning the facility installed by the member representing Njikoka Two Constituency Hon. Jude Akpua, commended the lawmaker for aligning with the state government’s vision for community development, describing him as a supporter of the current administration through his motions and bills in the eighth assembly. Dr. Ibezim highlighted that the Governor has numerous significant programs and plans for Ndi Anambra, many of which are yet to be unveiled. He noted that the administration has already built over two hundred and fifty kilometers of roads in two years, and has made strides in employment and sectoral development, urging the people of Njikoka to continue supporting Dr. Akpua and the current government.
* The Anambra Vigilant Group, AVG has vowed to work round the clock alongside other security forces in the state to apprehend all involved in the killing of its Commander at Nnewi, Eloka Ubajekwe, and make the perpetrators to pay with their blood. Mr. Eloka Ubajekwe, otherwise known as Tallest was gruesomely murdered in Nnewi axis on Monday. In a release by Mr. Nweke Nweke, PRO AVG, said they are going to employ every titics available in unraveling those involved in the barbaric act. The AVG through their spokesperson, Nweke Nweke however urges members of the public to help in volunteering information to the police and other forces that could assist in arresting the miscreants who hide under the umbrella of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’s sit-at-home order to cause havoc in Anambra State.
* The member representing Orumba South constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly Hon. Emmanuel Nwafor said the relationship between the Legislature and the Executive has been cordial which is the reason behind the achievements of the 8th assembly led by Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze. Speaking on the one year anniversary, Hon. Nwafor who is the House Committee Chairman on Works stated that he has attracted numerous dividends of democracy to his constituents.
