* The ongoing free cleft lip and palate treatments, a new initiative between Smile Train, a non-governmental charity body, and wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo has successfully underwent a surgery on a two year old child, Peter Anthony. ANN reports that Peter Anthony who had right cleft lip and bilateral cleft palate, was operated on last weekend at Dinma Hospital, Nnewi, one of the affiliated medical facilities that offer treatments to cleft patients.

* Wife of the Governor of Anambra State Dr Nonye Soludo says improved economic growth amidst crisis, conflicts and poverty has become crucial to tackling renewed cases of child labour and related crimes. According to the Governor’s wife, winning the war against child labour calls for collective efforts. She explained that with poverty cited as the major cause of child labour, government should initiate socio-economic policies that will cushion high living costs and have direct positive impact on low-income families.

* Anambra State Internal Revenue Service AIRS, has arrested the co-ordinator of Money Point POS in charge of Anambra, Mr. Ndubuisi Anadi over alleged financial misappropriation and removal of the State government payment system. The Executive Director of the service in charge of Operations and other Revenues, Dr. Christian Madubuko disclosed this in Awka after the arrest, following series of complaints that taxes paid into government coffers by Ndi Anambra do not reflect at the State government’s central system.

* General Hospital Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra state is now Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH Annex, Ifitedunu. The Chairman, Medical Advisory Council of NAUTH, Dr. Ogochukwu Ezejiofor disclosed this while speaking during a free medical outreach organized by the hospital’s Department of Family Medicine at the General Hospital. According to Dr Ezejiofor, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Joseph Ugboaja, as well as the management team of the hospital thought it wise to convert the general hospital, as a way of expanding their medical services to the people and revealed that the hospital can boast of over three hundred medical consultants.

* The Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi has urged Mission Education Secretaries to support the drive towards promoting quality education in the basic education sub-sector of the State. Dr Nwadinobi was speaking during a meeting with all the Mission Education Secretaries in the State. Nwadinobi canvassed for the support of the mission Education Secretaries towards tackling challenges facing the basic education in various primary schools in the State. According to her, the challenges include collection of illegal levies by the Headteachers.

* The Yoruba community in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, has refuted rumours suggesting animosity between the Igbos and Yorubas, particularly concerning the outcome of the February 25th, 2023 Presidential election that resulted in Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu being elected as President of Nigeria. The community has urged other tribes and ethnic groups residing in Anambra to disregard these rumours, emphasizing that there is no such hostility between them and their host people, the Igbos.

* Bearing in mind the prevalence of cardiovascular and related health emergencies in recent time, Anambra State Governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo has included emergency basic lifesaving skills in the teaching curriculum of her social programme, “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo” which will be domiciled in primary and secondary schools in the state. The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike who disclosed this in his office in Awka, explained that by teaching school children basic life-saving techniques, they would have been at home with managing common emergencies and become very useful in such cases in and outside their schools environments.

* The sum of N160 billion is expected to be realized by Anambra state in the next three years from the cultivation of Oil Palm and allied products in the area. Similarly the dreading of 10,000 Hecters of land for rice farming is about to commence in Ifite Ogwari community on Ayamelum local government area of Anambra state.

* Chief Dennis Ezebuilo who was the first to be crowned traditional ruler of Amanuke but later removed by the government was, on Thursday, arraigned at Awka High Court II and the case was subsequently adjourned to Tuesday, June 20. Ezebuilo was arraigned on three count charges of unlawfully “portraying himself as the traditional ruler of Amanuke Community, knowing such to be false and thereby committing an offence punishable under section 19 (C) of the Traditional Rulers law No.14 of 1981 of Anambra State. He was also charged with committing a similar offence contrary to section 14 of Traditional Rulers Law of 1987 and 2019.
