* Miss Makua Nwosu of Loretto Special Science School, Adazi-Nnukwu has emerged winner of the 14th edition of the Prince Emeka Ayabazu Science Quiz Competition while students of Mata Amabilis Umuoji took the first position in the Science Fair exhibition Competition.
Miss Nwosu went home with N35,000 with several text and exercise books and students of Mata Amabilis Umuoji went home with N45,000 for producing an e-hospital. The competition and award of academic excellence ceremony which is a brainchild of Prince Emeka Ayabazu Foundation is in collaboration with Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC.

* The Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi has commended the achievements and perseverance of persons living with sickle cell disorder in the state and charged them to take advantage of the state government’s subsidized health service provision to get the best medicare. Ezeajuhi said that the scheme is to ensure that sickle cell patients get adequate care in order to contribute their quota to the state’s development. According to him, the commemoration of World Sickle Cell Day is an opportunity to celebrate the amazing achievements of those living with the disease.

*Anambra State House of Assembly on Thursday 20th June confirmed the appointment of Transition Committee Chairmen and councillors of the twenty-one Local Government Areas. The House confirmed the appointment in line with section two hundred and eight of the Local Government law, 1999 as amended, as requested by Governor Chukwuma Soludo. The newly appointed Chairmen are, Hon. Ifeanyi Chiweze (Anambra East), Hon. Fidelis Nnazo (Anambra West) Hon. Romanus Ibekwe (Anaocha)  Hon. Chinedu Okafor (Awka South), Hon. Alphonsus Ofumele (Ayamelum), Hon.  Chijioke Ozumba (Dunukofia) and Hon. Stanley Nkwoka (Idemili North). Others are; Hon. Chinedu Ononiba (Njikoka), Hon. Val Ezeogidi (Nnewi South), Hon. Franklin Nwadialu (Ogbaru), Hon. Anthony Nwaora (Onitsha North), Hon. Casimir Nwafor (Orumba North) and Hon. Shedrack Azubuike (Orumba South). The re-appointed Chairmen, Include, Hon. Chibuike Ofobuike (Aguata), Hon. Thankgod Aniagor (Awka North), Hon. Amaka Obi (Idemili South), Hon. Emeka Orji (Onitsha South), Hon. Anayo Orjiakor (Ihiala), Hon. Chris Obiora (Nnewi North) Hon. Chimezie Obi (Ekwusigo) and Hon Emma Nweke (Oyi). The local government transition committee chairmen will serve for a period of three months at the first.

* His Royal Majesty Igwe Ben Emeka the traditional ruler of Umueri has commended the Anambra 8th Assembly led by Rt. Hon Somtochukwu Udeze for their performance in the last one year. The traditional ruler urged the lawmakers to make more laws that will tackle insecurity.

* It was jubilation and carnival of a sort at Oba Civic Centre, Idemili South Local Government Area, as one of the four Igweship candidates, Chief Godwin Njubigbo, Ezeigbo of Mainland Lagos, picked up Igweship form after winning Aborji village primary election. He was accompanied by village relations, chiefs, music groups, and well-wishers, impressing Oba Patriotic Union (OPU) executives led by Mr Anthony Uzor Ejiofor.
Addressing the OPU executives, the PG of Aborji Village, Nze Nweke, said that they came in company of the Igweship hopeful, Njubigbo, to pick the Igweship form as demanded by the Oba community constitution and commended the OPU executive for her efforts to ensure production of Igwe Eze Okpoko the second (11) of Oba.

* Anambra State Creative Economy Consultative Value Chain Mapping workshop which is aimed at capturing the diverse and dynamic landscape of creative Innovation activities in the state and also serves as a tracker and valuable resource for policymakers, investors and entrepreneurs looking to engage with and support the growth of the creative industries was held in Awka.

The two-day workshop which was organized by the Technology for Social Change and Development (Tech4Dev) in partnership with the Anambra State Government, the UK International Development, and the Nigeria Creative Ecosystem Growth and Innovation Initiatives witnessed participants from the public and private sectors in attendance to the innovative interactive session to brainstorm on putting Anambra’s creative potentials and Investment opportunities on the global ecosystem mapping.

* Anambra State Governor has inaugurated the Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU. Members of the council include; Professor Chidi Odinkalu (Pro-Chancellor/Chairman, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Chief Christopher Ndubuisi, Igwe Oranu Chris Chidume and AIG Chris Ezike (Rtd). The Senate Representatives to the Council include, Prof. K.K. Nwozo, Prof. Angela Nwamuo, Prof. C.C Chukwueloka, Prof. Obi Emeka and Prof. Anselem Nweke while the Congregation Representative to Council are Prof. M.N Chendo and Mrs. Eucharia.
Soludo while performing the function at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Awka on Wednesday June 19 charged them on building an educational system that is fit for purpose, projecting into where the state want to be.

* The Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONet) has hailed Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, as “Mr Integrity and a promise keeper” for signing 11 Bills at a go into law, especially the Anambra Electoral Law in particular. ACSONet is the foremost platform for citizens’ advocacy and good governance in Anambra State.
The leader of the group, Prince Chris Azor stated that the feat by Mr. Governor was “unprecedented and humongous”. According to Prince Azor, “Such has never been experienced in the governance epoch of the State – having eleven developmental Bills signed in one day. This shows unwavering commitment to the rule of law and good governance. It’s highly commendable.”

* The Anambra State Government through Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA brigade has commenced the removal of shanties and dislodging of illegal occupants on Niger street in Onitsha. The Managing Director, Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere stated this during the demolition excercise  in Onitsha after the expiration of vacation notice served on them. The Joint OCHA Brigade Special Task Force on Environmental Offences conducted the exercise as they said that the shanties pose a security threat to the environment while the daily activities of the illegal occupants cannot be attested for or served as harbour for sand miners operating in the locality.

* The Anambra State Government through its Ministry of Health has partnered Ipas Nigeria Health Foundation to establish standards and guidelines for medical management of victims of violence across the state. Speaking during the event, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike explained that violence against persons is a major social and public health issues in Nigeria, with marked vulnerability among women and children. According to Dr. Obidike, the National Demographic Health Survey of 2013 reported that approximately 30 % of persons in Nigeria have suffered violence in one form or another, saying that violence against persons include a wide range of actions that may constitute physical, psychological and sexual injury to persons, including domestic violence, rape, child abuse and traditional harmful practices such as female genital mutilation.
