* Anambra State Government has announced readiness to commence the enforcement of green zones to protect and preserve sensitive ecosystems and biodiversity hotspots in the second half of the year 2023. It also resolved to prevent habitat destruction and promote sustainable land use practices to ensure the long-term health and survival of the environment. Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu, announced these during a one-day information dissemination on climate change for VCDP stakeholders in Awka.
* Audition for Anambra Shine the Light Reality TV Show, has begun at Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Awka with large turnout of Anambra youths who are ready to showcase themselves to the world.The show facilitated by ABS and Alkebulan Production is designed to help showcase the talents of Anambra youths, groom the participants during the period of the event and for winners of the show. The contentants were auditioned in acting, singing, dancing, comedy among others.
* An organization dedicated to supporting children with sickle cell disease, Chie’mma Empowerment Foundation, CEF, has organized an event that aimed to raise awareness and provide crucial support for those affected by the condition. In commemoration of World Sickle Cell Day, the event which brought together healthcare professionals, experts, and community members kicked off with a road show, followed by a panel discussion at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka, Anambra state.
* Anambra Commissioner for information, Sir Paul Nwosu says the State Civil Service Commission are not carrying out any form of recruitment exercise stating that whenever the need for recruitment arises, the announcements will be made through the appropriate channels. He advised the general public to disregard the Job Recruitment Notice making the rounds on Social Media as it did not emanate from Anambra State Government.
* Couple who use their ten-year-old daughter for begging have been captured and brought before the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner in her office in Awka. The couple Mr Lucky Onukwe Sunday and his wife Mrs Chinasa Sunday both from Abia state but resident at Oji River was caught by a good Nigerian who brought them to the office of the Women Affairs Commissioner. Mr Sunday who claimed to be a prophet and on a divine mission in Awka, explained that they relocated to Oji River from Lagos after life became hard for his family and decided to use their daughter for begging purposes while the wife Chinasa who claimed to be an Evangelist denied ever having knowledge of her husband’s begging activity.
* The National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa has called on young people to join the party. He maintained that the party, as part of its rebranding project is now building its structure around young people in Nigeria and that every young adult over the age of 18 should register and join the party to be among the decision-making bodies of the party. The National Chairman who extended olive branch to Chief Edozie Njoku called on him to key in with the leadership of APGA to make his contributions for the growth of the party.
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North LGA, Hon. Ogo Ekwueme recently led a delegation of Nanka Community to the Anambra State Ministry of Education requesting for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s approval to convert the Community Secondary School in the community to Government Technical College. The proposed College is expected to serve the 16 communities of Orumba North, Umuona, Isuofia and Ekwulobia in Aguata, and Agulu and Aguluzigbo in Anaocha Local Government Areas of the state.
* The Anambra State newly posted Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commandant Edwin Osuala has embarked on a courtesy visit, aimed at familiarizing himself with other relevant sisters’ organizations as well as other stakeholders in the security architecture of the state.
According to a press release, signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSC Okadigbo Edwin, and made available to newsmen, the Commandant’s first port of call was at the State Headquarters of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Awka where he was received by the NDLEA Commander, Mr. Daniel Onyishi.
* The Anambra State Government through the State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hon Ify Obinabo, has commended the apex Igbo women’s group, Okpotokpo Adaigbo Niile Worldwide (OANW), for what it described as the group’s human impactful vision of support to the less privileged, the vulnerable mothers and children in society. Obinabo, who spoke when she received the executive and members of OANW, Onitsha Chapter in a courtesy call at her office in Awka, Anambra State, thanked Okpotokpo Adaigbo Niile Worldwide for according to her, assisting the state government in the job of care giving.
