* The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Dr. Joe Akabuike has decried the nineteen point five million (19.5) monthly bills by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, saying that the hospital cannot afford to pay it. Dr. Akabuike who said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s investment in the health sector has started yielding positive results, disclosed this while speaking to the newsmen in Awka.

* A convicted impostor Mr. Obinna Orazue
has been sentenced to 90 days in prison for impersonating a lawyer and falsely claiming to be a member of the Nigerian Bar. Orazue was arrested on June 13, 2024, at an open court in Otuocha, Anambra State, while attempting to defend a client. During his trial, Orazue admitted to studying political science in university, not law. Despite this, he had been posing as a licensed legal practitioner before his arrest. Before his sentencing, Orazue pleaded for leniency, citing his five children and unemployed wife as reasons for the court to temper justice with mercy.

* The All-Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Chief Joseph Emeka-Ekwealor has called on their party members to participate in the ongoing online registration of APGA members nationwide. Chief Ekwealor who stated this while speaking in Awka, said that the registration is critical and vital in knowing the party’s authentic members at all times. The Anambra East APGA Chairman said that the online registration which is one of the best innovative ideas of the Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa led National Working Committee, urged both the old and new members to get registered or revalidated electronically.

* Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has arrested notorious criminal Mr. Chukwudi Akidi, from Abia State for vandalising the water tunnel of the bridge and stealing the properties of the Second Niger Bridge. The swift action taken by the SASA team led to the successful capture of the suspect, who had been causing significant damage to government property by selling stolen materials to scrap dealers. The Director of SASA, Solomon Chukwuebuka Onwuemene while speaking, emphasised the importance of their surveillance efforts in safeguarding critical infrastructure like the Second Niger Bridge.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has inaugurated a panel of inquiry into the building collapse at Ọdụ Igbo, Ochanja and DMGS, Onitsha. Governor Soludo performed the function at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia in less than twenty four hours after members of the panel were constituted. Soludo who stated that their inauguration goes a long way to demonstrate the importance his government would place on the recommendations of the panel, which may form the basis for requisite actions.
The Governor also charged them on discharging their job with the highest form of professionalism, which is the reason they were chosen from various professional bodies.

* An Anambra State transport mogul and the founder of GUO Motors, Sir Godwin Okeke, has built a set of classrooms, lodging and learning theatres for the less-privileged people in the state to enable them to have access to quality education. The classrooms, lodging, hostels, dormitories and vocational centres were equipped with learning facilities. He said that himself and the wife took it upon themselves in making sure this building becomes a reality to better the lives of these children in need. Quality education is assured for them as well.

* The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has visited the site of the collapsed Centenary building at Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha. During her visit, Prof. Chuma-Udeh expressed deep grief over the colossal damage caused by the collapse. She interacted with members of the Nigeria Society of Building Engineers, who were also present to inspect the site and assess the extent of the damage.

Identifying the precise cause of the collapse remains challenging at this stage. The engineers indicated the need to liaise with the contractor responsible for the project to gather more information that could provide clues to the cause of the disaster.

* Anambra 8th Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme says the cordial relationship between the executive and
legislature, the management system of Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze and the dedication of the entire lawmakers is the secret behind their achievements.
Ofodeme who is the member representing Ekwusigo constituency and Chairman House Committee on Rules and Businesses while speaking on the one year anniversary of the 8th Anambra Assembly expressed gratitude to his constituents for the believe and trust imposed on him.

* The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu has stated that he is poised towards encouraging and strengthening interdisciplinary research which is one of the key parameters in enhancing institution’s visibility in the past, both now and for the future. Ikechebelu stated this during his maiden live broadcast interactive session held on UNIZIK 94.1 FM. Ikechebelu mentioned that part of his short term plan is to support, promote and encourage researchers through cross fertilization of ideas and continue the linkage between similar programs and other departments to develop research topics that are researchable and goal oriented.
