* An indigene of Anambra State, Umeh Nkechinyere, has emerged top scorer in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) with a cumulative mark of 360. Registrar of JAMB, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this in a presentation he made at the ongoing 2023 policy meeting taking place in Abuja. Heads of institutions at the policy meeting are expected to peg the minimum cut – off marks for 2023 admissions.

* Contractors have deployed heavy duty machinery at Ekwulobia even as the official demolitions for flyover project begins in Anambra. Traffic gridlock surfaced at central area of Ekwulobia roundabout, following the commencement of the official demolition of buildings marked as obstructing the right of way of the flyover project. Heavy duty machines are busy removing buildings within the motor park area while major clearances are ongoing along the Nanka road. Shop owners who banked on the rumoured August extension were seen hurriedly removing reusable buildings materials. However, landlords lament the hight costs of extracting buildings materials considered good for future use.

* All the 850 participants in the 37th annual conference of the Anglican women’s conference will undergo medical checks, offered by the Women’s Ministry of the Anglican Communion, Diocese of Awka, Anambra. Chiazo Anyachebelu, Deputy Director, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Medical Centre, who is co-ordinating the outreach, urged women to avail themselves of the opportunity. Mrs Anyachebelu announced this at the ongoing 37th Diocesan Women’s Conference (ADWOC) and the Second Women’s Guild conference at St Stephen’s Parish, Ifitedunu Community, Dunkofia Local Government Area of Anambra.

* The Transition Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area Mr. Onyemaobi Augustine Nonyelum has commissioned Nkwelle vigilante services. Addressing the Nkwelle people, the Mayor thanked the leadership of the community for the wonderful initiative and appreciated the entire Nkwelle people for their support. He stated that every prosperous society is built on a secured environment and appealed that such a gesture be sustained.

* In line with global practices, the authorities of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, have announced that the Sandwich Programme of the University would continue to be run online including the examination of students. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS, made this known when the Unit organized a one-day workshop on “Online teaching and Examination” at the ASUU-NAU Secretariat.

* The Anambra Vigilantes Group (AVG) has poured accolades on the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Eworo Echeng on his elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
A congratulatory message signed by the Anambra Vigilantes Group Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Nweke Nweke and made available to newsmen, comrade Nweke stated that the working relationship the Anambra Vigilantes Group ( AVG) enjoyed throughout the year AIG Echeng stayed in the state remains second to none.

* A deity, popularly known as Ita has descended on and blinded a middle-aged man for reportedly fingering and defiling a one-year-old girl in Anambra State. The incident happened at Ikem village in Nando, Anambra East Local Government Area of the State, where the suspect, identified as Friday Ameh was taken to, to swear before the deity after denying committing the crime. He was said to have committed the crime in Onitsha, also in Anambra State.

* The Police have engaged the services of Anambra State Vigilante (AVG) operatives to arrest some fleeing gunmen who escaped with gun injuries after an attack by security operatives at Okija, Ihiala Local Council of the state. ANN gathered that some heavily armed gunmen ambushed operatives of the AVG in Okija, but were repelled.

During the encounter, two gunmen were killed and two AK-47 rifles were recovered from them, while some gang members escaped with bullet injuries.To track them, the State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said their men have inspected the scene of the event, and gone into partnership with the AVG to ensure that the fleeing suspects were all apprehended.

* A female graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State  has made her alma mater as well as her home town Oko  proud in far away China. This time, she outshined all others, coming top in a Chinese degree. She became the best graduating with Bsc. Chinese Language & Literature. To acknowledge her feat, she was given the platform to give a speech in Representation of the South West University and the International Students.
