* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has placed a ban on all meetings of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Anambra State wing. According to a press statement signed by the commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the action of the government is predicated on the need to avoid breakdown of Law and Order in the state. The statement further explained that the ban was placed following the show of shame exhibited by members of the union during their state wing executive committee meeting, held at the Teachers’ House, on Tuesday, sixth June, 2023.
* Anambra State Government has awarded scholarship to Miss Nkechinyere Umeh of Anambra State, who came tops in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME. Announcing the award, Governor Chukwuma Soludo who spoke through the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, expressed satisfaction that the efforts of the present administration at repositioning the education sector is yielding the desired dividend.
* A leisure park in Awka, the Anambra State capital, a brainchild of the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, will gulp over N2.4bn .
The park, otherwise called Solution Fun City is part of the governor’s dream of making Anambra State a liveable and prosperous smart megacity. A statement signed by Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, said Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved the release of the money.
* Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo has induct two hundred Anambra teachers into her school club, ‘Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo’. The event, which was held in Awka on Tuesday June 27 2023, officially flag off first phase of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo as a club in two hundred secondary schools in Anambra State. The two hundred teachers, to be known as ‘Teacher-Ambassadors’ will oversee club activities in each of their designated schools and send in regular reports of the club’s programmes to the coordinators.
* One of the groups that championed the election of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has lauded the governor’s efforts towards infrastructural development in the state and for living up to his manifesto. The group was speaking during the a maiden meeting after election aimed at appraising the performance of the governor. The chairman of the group, Sir Jude Emecheta, in his address noted that Governor Soludo has lived up to his manifesto given the great improvement in security within the state and massive road constructions in different parts of the state.
* The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on behalf of the State Government, extends hearty greetings and congratulations to Ndi Anambra, Muslims in the state and across Nigeria on the celebration on Eid Kabir. In a release signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor Mr. Christian Aburime, Soludo assures maximum security of life and property for all residents and visitors during the holidays and beyond.
* A former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Chief Emeka Sibeudu, says although the Soludo administration is still nascent, it has been consistent in ensuring that developmental projects spring up in the state. Speaking at Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area, Sibeudu, expressed delight that the Soludo administration is improving on the achievements of past administrations while following new trends in governance, as expected in any generative and progressive administration. He called for continued support to the governor to enable him to sustain developmental strides in the state.
* The Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim has encouraged couples to live up to the challenges of good parenting; in order to produce children who are morally and spiritually sound. Ibezim, who stated this at Our Saviour’s Chapel, Emmaus House, Awka while administering the sacrament of baptism to diocesan priests’ children, said baptism is an important christian ceremony that signifies the imposition of the mark of Christ on believers.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze says the law enacted by the state legislature to prohibit widowhood malpractices in the state is still in force. The Speaker, who enjoined traditional rulers in the state to abrogate all obnoxious and harmful laws, as well as other related practices against widows in their communities, noted that widows should be allowed to co-exist with others without hindrances. Udeze commended the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, and the ministry of women affairs and social welfare for their efforts in ensuring that the status and welfare of widows in state are enhanced. The Speaker encouraged widows to remain focused and have full trust in God; who is capable of changing their situations for the better.
