* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command has arrested four suspects involved in illegal mining activities in the state. The suspects, Nnamani Chidubem, Ekemezie Ifeanyi, Okolie Patrick, and Onyedika Somtoo, were apprehended on June 27, 2024, at about at the Toll gate Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area.
The Commandant, Maku Olatunde, while parading the suspects in Awka on Friday 28th June 2024, stated that the arrests in collaboration with Federal Mines Officer, Ministry of Solid Minerals Development in charge of Anambra State were made on Thursday 27th of June, 2024, in strict compliance with the directives of the Commandant General to end illegal mining activities across the country.

* Anambra State government through the Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Task Force Team has sealed off a building constructed on the water ways at Bishop Plaza Marine Modern market Onitsha and arrested individuals for trespassing into sealed premises on Niger Street Onitsha.

* Heads of security agencies in Anambra state, including Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has held a meeting at the Nigeria Police Force Command. The Service Commanders reviewed the security landscape in the state and strategized on effective ways to address emerging threats and challenges. They also discussed collaborative efforts to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, intelligence sharing, and swift response to security breaches.

* The Umuzuocha Awka community vigilante successfully apprehended a group allegedly stealing billboards along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, near the Deeper Life Church close to Regina Junction, Awka. The suspects were caught red-handed early Tuesday morning, around 1 a.m. The vigilante group, noticing suspicious activity in the area, swiftly mobilized and intercepted the suspects before they could escape.
Reacting to the incident, Commissioner for Information, Anambra State, Sir Paul Nwosu, commended the vigilante group for their swift action in apprehending the thieves. He emphasized that such thefts are detrimental to the state’s advertising revenue, which is vital for funding schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure projects.

* Tipper drivers in Onitsha, Anambra State, under the aegis of the Anambra Tippers Association, have threatened to protest the alleged forceful payment of various sums of money to the officials of the Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA). The chairman of the association, Ebuka Unekwe, who disclosed this to journalists in Onitsha on Thursday, alleged that ARTMA officials extort its members of money ranging from N200,000 and above under the guise of traffic control. According to Unekwe, the ARTMA officials in Onitsha, led by one Akachukwu, claimed that the agency’s men were instructed by the agency’s managing director, Emeka Konti, to collect N200,000 from each tipper driver operating in the area.

* The Women Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee has organized a one-day seminar for female sports coaches and administrators in the Southeast. The event held in Awka, the Anambra State capital, was chaired by Chief Mrs Ngozi Obikwelu, and had as its theme: “Capacity building in sports“.
Speaking on “Overcoming obstacles to successful sports coaching and administration”, the Chairperson, Nigeria Olympic Committee, Women Commission, Professor Florence Adeyanju, enjoined participant coaches to set themselves apart by getting quality training and marketing their credentials, being innovative and current in coaching techniques, having good philosophy of coaching, among other things, in order to be successful.

* In a bid to build a greater society and better future for the younger generation, Nnokwa youths have organized a sensitization programme to raise awareness on the negative impacts of social vices and also the best approach to make best career choices.

The event which was held ay Ubili Civic Center, Nnokwa, Idemili South Local Government Area featured lectures on dangers associated with social vices, making informed and productive careers choices and proper sexual orientation. The guest speakers including, Dr Nkem Okafor, Sir Charles Abaekih and Mrs Adamaka Edozie explained to the students why they should not be involved in drug abuse, cultism and other addictive habits, how best to chose a career and build a great future through their chosen careers.

* The Anambra State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Comdt. Maku Olatunde, has paid an unscheduled visit to the ongoing 2024 Batch B Stream one Orientation Camp at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA. The visit aimed to assess the security situation and strengthen the existing security emplacement to ensure the safety and security of corps members and camp officials. Comdt. Maku commended the NYSC officials for their efforts in ensuring a smooth orientation exercise and reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to supporting the NYSC in providing a secure environment for national service.

* Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs has arrested a 65-year old Mr. Frank Ogwu, a pastor and General Overseer of Jesus House of Joy Church, Awka for allegedly defiling a seven year old girl who serves him as a househelp.
The arrest followed an alarm raised by concerned residents of the town who were thrown aback by the regrettable incident. The suspect who hails from Imo state but has lived with his wife and children in Anambra for over 30 years.
Confessing to the crime, Mr. Ogwu told newsmen that his victim (names withheld) lives with him and his family from where she attends school.

* Anambra State Government will on 1st July 2024 commence the process of gathering and analyzing information on individual Keke drivers in the State. This was contained in a statement released by Keke tricycle, Awka zone on Thursday.
According to the statement, the profiling is essential to enhance the security measures within Awka south metropolise and ensure the safety of both the keke operators and passengers
