* Traders at Oyeagu market, Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area have commended the immediate past Transition Committee Chairman of the local government, Chief Clems Aguiyi, for alleviating their sufferings through construction of new shops and ongoing reconstruction of old ones at the market.

Commenting on the development, Mrs Theresa Odimma; who sells garri at the market, revealed that she has been doing the business for years under the sun and in the rain; but now has a shop, and commended Chief Aguiyi for coming to their aid. On his part, another trader, Mr Chukwuebuka Nweke, who bemoaned the condition of the market before Chief Aguiyi intervened, expressed joy that ever since the section of the market where he trades has been completed, he is now recording business boom, describing Chief Aguiyi as the best thing that has happened to the traders at the market.

* Some Non Governmental Organizations in Anambra State have resolved to work with the state Ministry of Health to improve maternal and child healthcare services across the primary health centres in the state. SPARK 2 project will be implemented in 24 communities, in 6 local government areas across the 3 senatorial districts of Anambra State. The NGO made the commitment during an advocacy visit to the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, to kick-start the implementation of the Strengthening Public Accountability for Results and Knowledge, (SPARK 2) Project in the state. The implementing agency groups include: the Community Empowerment Network, COMEN, the Justice Development and Peace Carits (JDPC) Nnewi and the Civil Rights Concern, (CRC).

* Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra, has extended its Academic Advancement to University of Lincoln and Sydney Success College at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom (UK). According to the University’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Harrison Mmadubueze, who disclosed this in a statement signed and made available to Journalists in Awka, the partnership aimed to establish a framework for mutually beneficial collaboration, focusing on integrating innovative teaching tools and methodologies that would benefit both institutions.

* The Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers have Inaugurated Mr. Raji Adewale as the tenth Anambra branch chairman alongside his executives who will pilot the affairs of the union for the next two years. Inaugurating the new executive, the National President and Chairman of the Council, Mr. Victor Alonge said that the election of the new executive showed the determination of the chapter to become a true light of the nation as reflected in the state’s motto and also noted that the election of a non-indigene to head the chapter confirmed them as detribalized Nigerians and Anambra as a home of hospitality.

Alonge represented by Mr. Monday Aihwe reminded the new executive that they have been called to render selfless service which will demand into their time and personal resources. During his inaugural speech, the new Chairman, Mr. Adewale said that in line with his vision, he has a comprehensive four-point agenda that will guide their efforts and actions which are designed to foster growth, enhance their professional standing and ensure the welfare of their members.

* The Nigerian Hunter and Forest Security Services (NHFSS), has conferred Anambra Firstlady Mrs. Nonye Soludo

with a new honour as its group National Patroness. The honour was conferred when a national delegation of the association visited her in Awka, the State capital, making her the only First Lady in the country to have been conferred with such honour. Announcing this on her official social media page, Mrs. Soludo described the honour as special and a proof that her little efforts are being and appreciated.

* Some residents of Ndam Village in Nnobi Community, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, have abandoned their homes, following the pollution of their environment by a recently established industry, Seaman Rice Mill. Indigenes of the village who spoke to journalists decried the establishment of a rice mill within their residential area, while also complaining of foul smell and emission of harmful black smoke into the air, which, they said, had covered the entire area. The spokesman of the affected families, Mr. John Enwedo, in an interview with journalists, said the rice mill was sited there last year.

* Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has explained that there are a lot of positive opportunities for youths on the internet for self-development and actualization of huge career breakthroughs. Mrs Soludo who was speaking during an empowerment programme that was organized by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) youth leadership in Dunukofia Local Government Area at the council’s headquarters, Ukpo, noted that contrary to wide assumptions, the internet also boasts great opportunities for young people who desire for positive impacts.

She said that instead of exploring the internet and social media for things that do not add to growth, youths can find so many positive opportunities that can equip them with powerful skills and innovative ideas to grow in their careers. 

* An unidentified female pedestrian has been crushed to death by a yet-to-be-identified bus driver in Anambra State. The incident happened at the ever-busy Upper Iweka axis in Onitsha, where the pedestrian was about crossing the expressway, before she was knocked down by the speeding commercial driver of a Toyota Hiace bus, who also zoomed off immediately, without stopping to check on his victim. Confirming this in a statement made available to newsmen, a Staff Officer Public Education at the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State, ARC. Charles Iyiegbuniwe, said the FRSC rescue took the victim to the Toronto Mortuary, Onitsha, after doctor’s confirmation that she died instantly.

* Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) is set to commence certification courses in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. The Executive Director of Bredhub, Mr Izu Mojekwu, disclosed this on Tuesday at the school auditorium while presenting a proposal to the university management to partner in delivering certification courses in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.

The partnership would provide COOU with access to cutting-edge resources, including AI software and robotics equipment. The certification courses would enhance students’ employability and open up new career paths in the tech industry.

* The Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Youth Empowerment Programmes, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, has enrolled all ward executives of APGA in his Nnobi ward 1, Idemili South local government area, into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme. The 21-man exco members of APGA in Nnobi Ward 1 are now fully entitled to the various services offered by the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency –ASHIA, through their partners across the state.

Speaking during the collection of the identification card which enrolled persons are required to tender upon visit to their assigned clinic(s), Nelson Omenugha thanked the governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, for the access to quality healthcare which the agency offers at a remarkably affordable price.

* Wife of the Governor of Anambra State Nonye Soludo, has commenced the process of setting up a healthy living garden in Awka. The garden, which will serve as an exhibition sample for the ongoing Healthy Living Garden Competition and the proposed Healthy Living Community Garden initiative, will have vegetables and other types of crops that could be harvested within a short period.

Already, the vegetables and crops have undergone the preliminary planting processes using the seed trays, after which they will be transplanted into the apportioned garden space upon germination.
