* The Chief Shepherd of Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, has called on Christians to shun paganism and be committed to their faith in God. The Prelate gave the advice during a homily, saying that any Christian who embraced paganism in an attempt to find a solution to a problem was simply going back to the land of slavery. in order to be relevant in the nation’s polity.

* Worried by the small number of communicants who receive Holy Communion during Holy Mass, the oldest Catholic priest of Onitsha Archdiocese, Very Rev. Dr. Hilary Anisiobi, has warned Christians to desist from such bad attitude of attending Holy Mass without receiving the Holy Communion. Rev. Fr. Anisiobi who clocked 95 years this year, gave the warning while addressing the faithful during a religious function at Ogbunike Community.

* Some residents of Ngozika Housing Estate, Awka, Anambra State, have begun to lament perennial flash flooding wreaking havoc in the estate. The ravaging flood, which came, following last Monday morning’s rainfall around Awka and its environs, surged into the Priest’s House of Sacred Heart Catholic Chaplaincy; that of St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church; the residence of one Mr. Solomon Ubani, among others.

* Anambra state government through the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in conjunction with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have given food crops of various types to one hundred and sixty women in four villages of Umueze Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area. The crops given to the women were rice seedlings, potato stems, groundnut, pepper, water melon seeds, and cucumber.

* Greater Grace Fire Assembly, Omagba Phase Two, Onitsha, has concluded its three days programme tagged “Unstoppable Miracles” with a call on Christians to always make sacrifices on God’s altar for them to receive their unstoppable miracles. A visiting Anglican Priest, Venerable Prince Chukwuma, gave the charge in his sermon during a special church service to mark the end of the programme .

* The Anambra State Head of Service, Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, has commended the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo over e- Identification Scheme for the state’s civil servants. She also hailed the Director General ICT Agency , Mr Chukwuemeka Frank Agbata, for his ingenuity in packaging the scheme.

* A Priest of Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Mbamara has been kidnapped.

According to the press release of Diocese of Nnewi, Fr. Mbamara, who is also a student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, was kidnapped, while returning to Nnewi from Awka. ANN gathered that Fr. Mbamara was kidnapped on Friday, 2nd June, 2023

* Anambra State Commissioner for Transport Mrs. Patricia Igwebuike says the state will harness more Internally Generated Revenue from water transport as a viable alternative to other forms of transportation. The Commissioner who stated this during an exclusive interview with our correspondent, noted that Anambra has about 8 local government areas that live in the riverine areas and that water transport would be a veritable means to connect them to the larger part of the state. 

* The insecurity, hardship and other social vices rampaging Nigeria can only be overcome through prayer. This was revealed by a guest speaker at a one-day prayer summit organized by Ameka Catholic Community, Onitsha Branch.

The event which attracted many Catholic faithful from Ebonyi State living in Anambra State, witnessed prayer, teachings, deliverance, questions and answers from the participants.

* A member of the Awka Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association Professor Ken Nwuba has called on the Bar, Bench and law enforcement agencies to synchronize their activities for effective justice administration in Nigeria. The legal expert made the call at the 26th Bar week by the Nigerian Bar Association Awka titled,” The Bar, The Bench and law enforcement agencies: Time For Synergy In Nigeria’s Justice Administration.’

* The Chairman of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Edith Onwuka, has charged the newly elected Unit executive members on professionalism, service and perseverance. Onwuka who gave the charge in Awka during the induction of the newly elected Unit executive, said the elected officers emerged victorious during the just concluded Quadrennial Unit Branches Elections.

* The Deputy Governor of Anambra State Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim says the All progressives Grand Alliance APGA is a political party with a clear vision which is committed to improving the living standards of the people. Speaking in Awka on the just concluded national convention of the party, Dr Ibezim who maintained that the outcome of the convention which produced Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the National Chairman of the party was most peaceful, orderly and credible, called on the people of the South East to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA
