* Anambra State Government is targeting to reach one million girls between the ages of nine to fourteen in the state by December 2024 with Human Papillomavirus vaccine. The government also urged parents and guardians to ensure that their daughters within the age bracket receive the jab; as the vaccine is safe and are given without cost at all public health facilities in the state.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike; at a media dialogue on HPV vaccine in Awka said the vaccination became necessary after the state recorded one point seven percent HPV positivity rate at the last state-wide screening of seventeen thousand persons.

* The Anambra State Chapter Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Humphrey Nwafor says the state recorded ninety per cent compliance on the ongoing nationwide strike over the minimum wage. Nwafor, who disclosed this to journalists in Awka, said the shutting down of offices across federal and state MDAs was successful. “To be honest with you, I am very delighted with the Anambra worker’s total compliance. We ensured that no office was open for any administrative businesses,” Nwafor said. In a meeting held earlier on Thursday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) gave further details about why their joint National Executive Council suspended the indefinite nationwide strike that began on May 3rd.

* Anambra State Governor’s wife, Nonye Soludo, has congratulated the three students of Michael Tansi Memorial Secondary School, Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, who emerged overall winner in the recently-held National Quiz and Debate Championship.
The event organized by the United Organization for Education and Sports Development Nigeria had the finals in Enugu State on 25th May 2024. The three senior students who represented Anambra State beat contenders from other states of Nigeria to take home the coveted trophy. Speaking during her meeting with the victorious students in their school in Aguleri, Mrs Soludo praised them for representing Anambra’s brand of excellence, and for displaying resilience and brilliance when they mattered. She encouraged the students to maintain the focus and commitment that got them the victory, and to explore bigger opportunities for national and international laurels.

* A stakeholder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Ambassador Jude Agumadu has charged reputable international organizations and agencies to always recognize and honour leadership excellence as a way of encouraging competitiveness among leaders in a growing democracy like Nigeria. Agumadu gave the charge in Awka while congratulating Governor Chukwuma Soludo for winning the Governor of the year award on Infrastructure and Rural Development of Champions Newspapers Limited.

* The Federal government in partnership with the Anambra state government has planted over three thousand palm trees in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area as a means of controlling the fast spread of an erosion site in the area. The project which was supervised by the Federal Ministry of Environment has been handed over to the state Ministry of Environment through its Commissioner, Hon. Felix Odimegwu as part of Federal Government project on Phyto Control and protection of erosion and marginal lands in the state.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Odimegwu stated that the project came timely as the erosion crisis in Anambra state has escalated to an alarming rate leaving one hundred and sixty of the one hundred and seventy-nine communities in Anambra State with one form of erosion or the other.

* The Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Awka, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, has charged women to be part of nation building by giving the needed support to schools in their various communities. She gave the charge while presenting a paper on “Nation building” to Women President- Generals at Dora Akunyili Development Centre, Awka.

Ikediugwu, who described nation building as the process of creating and showing a nation’s identity; which involves building and strengthening socio-economic and political foundations of the nation, said it is also the capacity of a country to raise the standard of living of its residents.

* Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has reassured ndi Anambra that Governor Chukwuma Soludo, is working round the clock to take the state to a level of global reference. The Governors wife stated this while addressing members of Soludo Women’s Movement, Awka North Chapter at Mgbakwu, explained that her husband came prepared and had his blueprint clearly drawn before coming to Anambra politics. Mrs. Soludo noted that despite the current milestones of the present administration in the state, her husband is not resting on his oars but is working every minute to give Ndi Anambra nothing short of excellence.

* The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Solid Mineral Development Company Limited, Prof. Charles Ofoegbu have urged citizens to desist from illegal mining that would endanger their lives and slow down the economic activities of the state. Ofoegbu stated this during an interview in his office at the Government House, Awka. Ofoegbu noted that mining which is one of the oldest economic activities in the state is being tampered with on a daily basis, which is a serious issue that shouldn’t be neglected.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has received an award from Leadership Scorecard Magazine for his significant contributions to the growth and development of democracy in Nigeria.
Soludo received the award in Abuja during a public lecture organized by the magazine to honour General Abdulsalami Abubabakar, Nigeria’s Head of State between 1998 and 1999. Receiving the award presented by the Emeritus Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onayiekan, Governor Soludo, represented by his Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche, stated that since the inception of his government, he has been committed to reforms that lay the foundation for a new Anambra that is built on strong institutions, which is the hallmark of democracy. The Governor stated that giving voice to the voiceless, creating access to quick dispensation of justice, prioritizing the welfare of the weak and the vulnerable, and creating a social order of equality and equity define the policies of his administration in Anambra; which are central to building trust among the electorate – “the only kingmakers in a democracy”.

* Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has described the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as trailblazer in championing innovative challenges in party politics in Nigeria. He added that the party has given other political parties in the country a major lead in revolutionary turnaround in political party operations. Soludo spoke during the flag off of digital membership registration, at his Isuoffia ward in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, where he was captured alongside his wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo.

* A Papal knight of Saint Gregorym the Great and peace advocate, Dr. Dan Okekenta has called on the National Assembly to enact a law that will establish peace and reconciliation commission across the country to check incessant conflicts in various areas. The Enugwu Agidi born Diplomat, who regretted the loss of lives and property as a result of conflict, called for the inclusion of conflict management in the curriculum of both secondary and primary schools across Nigeria to acquaint the pupils and students of the negative impact of conflict to the society.
