# Ikechukwu Ezenagu, popularly known as Muomiri Afuluanya, has been remanded at the Amawbia Correctional Centre by the Anambra State High Court, Awka, presided over by Justice Jude Obiora.
Ezenagu, who was brought to court from the hospital, had his counsel, Barrister Kingsley Awuka, apply for bail on health grounds and further appealed that he be allowed to remain in the hospital until the next adjourned date.
However, the prosecuting counsel, Barrister Tobechukwu Nweke, opposed the bail application and urged the court to remand the defendant pending the determination of the motion for bail.
In his ruling, Justice Obiora held that a hospital is not a constitutional facility for the detention of a defendant and consequently ordered that Ezenagu be remanded at the Amawbia Correctional Centre.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to June 19, 2026.
# In a move to reclaime dormant public assets and injecting new life into the state’s industrial heartbeat, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has launched an aggressive inspection tour in Nnewi.
The Governor during the tour, accompanied by the Commissioner for Works, Arch. Okey Ezeobi, Commissioner for Housing, Architect Henry Arinze, Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, identified infrastructure bottlenecks that have long stifled Nnewi’s commercial potential.
In his speech, Prof. Soludo maintained that he intends to transform the city into a modern, high-functioning urban center.
Soludo while inspecting Nkwo Nnewi Triangle, home to a shopping complex that has remained a shell of unfulfilled promise for 17 years, expressed frustration at the protracted stagnation.
The Governor inspected the Post Office vicinity and high court premises. His vision involves integrating these legacy sites into a cohesive, contemporary urban plan that enhances accessibility and elevates the standards of public service.
# The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Anambra State, Barr. Tobechukwu Nweke, has paid an inspection visit to the new High Court building under construction behind the Judiciary Headquarters, off Ekwueme Square, Awka.
While inspecting the facility, the Attorney General described the structure as solid and reflective of a modern high court. He expressed confidence that the project aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision to strengthen and expand the capacity of the state judiciary.
Barr. Nweke noted that the complex features ultra-modern courtrooms, judges’ chambers, and several conference facilities. He added that once completed, the building would serve the judiciary and the people of the state effectively.
“The building is solid and portrays what a modern high court should be. We are assured that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision to enhance the capacity of the Judiciary is being delivered,” Nweke said.
# The lawmaker representing Ayamelum Constituency in Anambra state House of Assembly, Hon Bernard Udemezue has accused Anambra cabals of producing fake National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary election results.
Hon. Udemezue stated that the cabals wants to deny him his mandate to represent Ayamelum under NDC.
In his official Facebook account, the lawmaker announced that some political cabals in Anambra posted a fake results that was announced and submitted instead of the original results which he eventually emerged winner of the election.
The original election results which shows that Udemezue win the election was signed by the electorial officer after the election but another result sheet was fabricated after the result sheet got to Awka.
The fabricated result sheet shows that Udemezue lost the election but the original one shows that lost the election.
The lawmaker called on the NDC Presidential candidate (Mr. Peter Obi) and also NDC Anambra North Senetorial candidate, Dr.Tony Okechukwu Nwoye to come to his aid and rescue the image of NDC in Ayamelum.
# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called on Nigerians to embrace the use of bicycles as a means of transportation, citing their affordability, health benefits and environmental friendliness.
The Zonal Commanding Officer of RS5 Benin Zone, Assistant Corps Marshal Cyril Matthew, made the call on Wednesday in Awka during his quarterly visit to Anambra Command and the commemoration of the 2026 World Bicycle Day.
The United Nations instituted World Bicycle Day in 2018 to draw attention to the benefits of bicycles as a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and sustainable means of transportation.
The FRSC boss while speaking on the theme for this year’s commemoration is – “Cycling for a Greener Future”, said bicycles were cheaper to acquire and maintain than motor vehicles, while also promoting physical fitness and reducing environmental pollution.
# Anambra Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba has embarked on an inspection tour of major sports facilities across the state.
The inspection is part of efforts to assess their condition and chart a path for their rehabilitation.
The Commissioner inspected the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium in Onitsha North Local Government Area, Otuocha Township Stadium in Anambra East, Godwin Achebe Stadium in Onitsha South, Ogidi Stadium in Idemili North, Solution Stadium in Aguata and Awka City Stadium in Awka South.
The commissioner while speaking during the inspection said the visit was aimed at evaluating the current state of the facilities and identifying areas requiring urgent intervention to restore them to full functionality.
Agha Mba expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of many of the stadiums, noting that years of neglect had left several of the facilities unsuitable for sporting activities and talent development.
He emphasized that sports remain a vital tool for youth empowerment, social inclusion, the discovery and nurturing of talents, stressing that the state government is committed to revitalizing sports infrastructure across Anambra.
According to Agha Mba, plans are already underway to rehabilitate the affected facilities and reposition them as centres of sporting excellence, youth engagement and community development.
# A combined team of the Nigerian Army, the Anambra State Police , and the Agunechemba Security Squad stormed Ndiukwuenu Community in Orumba North Local Government Area, the scene of Sunday’s attack on the Chief of Staff to Governor Charles Soludo, Chief Ben Nwankwo.
The security team was led by the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
The Agunechemba Security Squad has confirmed that the perpetrators of the heinous crime operate from Awka, the state capital, and use a white jeep to launch attacks on neighbouring communities before retreating.
Investigations revealed that the death toll from the attack has risen to four persons, comprising two police officers and two civilians who were in the company of the Chief of Staff at the time of the incident.

# Civil servants across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Anambra State have been urged to embrace artificial intelligence and modern digital tools to improve productivity, decision-making, and service delivery in government operations.
This formed the focus of a paper presentation titled “Leveraging ChatGPT and Modern Digital Tools for Effective Planning, Research and Statistics Efficiency in the Civil Service,” delivered by Dr. Johnpaul C. Onyekineso, Head of Planning, Research and Statistics, Ministry of Health, during the In-House Human Resource Development Week organized for officers of MDAs at the Head of Service Conference Hall, Jerome Udorji Secretariat Complex, Awka.
Dr. Onyekineso highlighted the growing importance of digital transformation in governance, noting that technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Cloud Computing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and data analytics are reshaping public administration worldwide.
He explained that ChatGPT, an AI-powered language model developed by OpenAI, can assist civil servants in report writing, policy formulation, research, data interpretation, budget planning, and strategic decision-making.
According to him, the technology can significantly reduce the time spent on routine administrative tasks while improving the quality of official documents and reports.
The presentation also showcased other essential digital tools, including Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Google Workspace, GIS applications, statistical software, and project management platforms, emphasizing their role in enhancing planning, monitoring, evaluation, and performance management.
# FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to improving electricity service delivery across Anambra State.
The company gave the assurance during the official signing of four key electricity market regulations by the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC), which has been described as another major milestone in the state’s ongoing electricity sector reforms.

# Former Chairman of National Human Rights Commission and erstwhile chairman of governing council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Chidi Anselm Odinkalu has taken on Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo over claims that Nigeria can afford to do without South East.
Soludo while addressing a group, Igbo Integration Movement (IIM) at the Government House in Awka after the presentation of a stage play, The Tales Of Two Nnamdis, had stated that Nigeria can do without South East if anything happened to the region.
Soludo said Nigeria will only describe any disaster in the region as Human disaster and move on because the region only contributes an insignificant 8.9 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Odinkalu did not find this funny as he has replied to Soludo, stating that problem with econometrics, Soludo’s course is that it reduces everything to numbers.″
