* The Anambra Chapter of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) has declared its unalloyed support for the National Speakership aspiration of Amb. Sir Charles Ezeaniekwe, the Anambra State YAN Ambassador. This resounding endorsement was made during an emergency meeting of the Anambra State YAN executive council held at Awka. The meeting which was convened to deliberate on matters of paramount importance regarding the forthcoming YAN National convention, state and LGA congresses unanimously ratified the decision to throw the weight of the organization behind Amb. Sir Ezeaniekwe’s bid for the exalted position.
* Anambra Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has expressed satisfaction with the courage of officers in the Command, especially in Ihaila, and its environs in sustaining onslaught operations against the criminal elements who are bent on fomenting troubles and making life unbearable for innocent citizens in the State. The CP stated this as he led confidence building patrol in the State and visited Area Command Ihiala. According to the CP, the patrol is aimed at showing presence to earn more trust of Ndi Anambra and residents alike in other to allow us to police the state effectively.
* Anambra State Firstlady, Mrs. Nonye Soludo has educate Nnewi traders on the risks of storing foods with chemicals substances. The wife of the governor of Anambra State, while addressing traders at Nkwo Nnewi Market asked traders to quit storing food products with poisonous chemicals because of the damaging implications on human health. The governor’s wife who continued her ongoing Healthy Living Market Outreach, pointed out that while people who practice such methods may not be fully aware of the dangers, diseases caused by the act could be life-threatening. Mrs Soludo noted that so many slow-killing sicknesses could be traced to unhealthy consumption lifestyle, some of which come from foods grown or stored with harmful chemicals.
* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate in tackling illegal migration, human trafficking, and vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure in Anambra State. This pact was made in Awka when the State Commandant of NSCDC, Comdt. Maku Olatunde, received the newly posted State Comptroller of NIS, Mr. GN Nzeribe, at the NSCDC Command Headquarters. Comdt. Maku pledged the continued support of NSCDC to NIS in its efforts to combat irregular migration, human trafficking, and other transnational crimes.
* The President, National Association of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe has called on the federal government not to allow the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to embark on another indefinite strike for the good of the nation.
Adigwe who gave this advice while speaking in Awka, wondered why the federal government treats workers welfare with kid gloves at all times. The NULGE President described Nigerian workers as very productive, enterprising, productive and intelligent who always give their best in whatever they do, a reason he said deserves to be appreciated by government at all levels.
* The department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam in conjunction with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have held a national conference on communication, artificial intelligence and drug abuse. The three-day event was holding at the ETF auditorium of the University. The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Kate Omenugha explained that the essence of the conference is to use communication and Artificial Intelligence to fight against drug abuse and appreciated NDLEA for how it is using the War Against Drug Abuse, WADA platform to tackle drug use across Nigeria.
Omenugha advised the students to listen, learn and put what they learned into action, saying that they should know that when they as communicators, do things that make the society to see them in a negative perspective, then they are practicing destructive communication.
* The Chairman Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Hon. Patrick-Estate Onyedum has hailed Governor Chukwuma Soludo for bankrolling and supporting the growth of sports in the state. Onyedum gave the commendation during the opening day of the athletics event in the ongoing 2024 Anambra State Sports Solution Initiative (ANSSI) in Awka. The Sports Commission boss revealed that an impressive number of 786 schools showed interest in participating in the second edition of the ANSSI.
* The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam restated his policing Plan that is poised to operate an all-inclusive policing system to hear from everyone and anyone that with help the Security Agencies in enforcing the law and maintain public order and safety in the State. The CP made this at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka, where he hosted the Vigilantes groups and relevant security outfits in the State. CP Itam commended the Vigilantes and security Outfits for their commitment, dedication, and selfless service in assisting the Police to nip crime in the bud in the State. He frowns at some of the abnormalities observed within the communities among the vigilantes like illegal detention of suspects, mob actions, illegal security levy, and assault on suspects among others.
* The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, has warned against the dangers of medical outreaches which aggravate citizens’ health conditions and expose beneficiaries to direct consequences. Onyemaechi, who gave the warning when the Strengthening Public Accountability for Result and Knowledge, SPARK 2 project Advocacy Team in Anambra State visited him in his office in Awka, argued that such outreaches have done more harm than good.
* Nigeria billionaire and industrialist, Chief Engr. Gilbert Obiajulu Uzodike is dead.
Uzodike, who is the founder of Cutix Cables Plc, as well as the defunct Adtec Limited and Adswitch Plc, reportedly died in the early hours of Friday. Although the news of his death has been officially announced by the family, cause of his death cannot be confirmed. The industrialist, who is popularly known as Oziuzo-Nnewi, was born in 1949 in the commercial South-Eastern city of Onitsha, in Anambra State.
