* The Nigerian Union of Journalists Anambra State Council has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to call the state’s task force in charge of demolishing illegal structures and revenue generation to order. In a communique signed by the Council Chairman, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu; and Secretary, Sir Aloysius Ofodile; after its February Congress, condemned the activities of the state task force, urging the governor to curtail the level or stop the barbaric actions of task force members who it said glorify violence in the state. The Union said the task force members of the government are inflicting pain and hardship on the people of the state in the name of demolishing illegal structures and internal revenue generation for the government.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo says some vigilante operatives in Anambra state work hand in gloves with criminals in the communities, hence sabotaging government’s efforts in fighting insecurity.
Governor Soludo accused the community based security outfit of entering covenant with criminal elements who he added has infiltrated the security outfit. Soludo made the statement during a meeting with Traditional Rulers and President-Generals on Wednesday in Awka.
* Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and other relevant MDA’s to enforce strict restrictions of children hawking during school hours. Hon. Anayo Emmanuel Okpalaeke who sponsored of the motion, in his submission said section 18(3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, stipulates that government shall strive to eradicate illiteracy by providing free, compulsory and universal primary, secondary and university education for citizens as and when practicable. Okpalaeke who is the member representing Aguata one constituency recalled that on the 21 of September, 2023, Governor Chukwma Soludo announced the commencement of free education for all pupils and students from Nursery to Primary six (6) Classes and JSS 1 to JSS3 for schools owned/run by the State Government.
* Officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has officially inaugurated the Anti Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. The event which took place at the Council Chambers of the UNIZIK Administrative Block witnessed the administering of the oath of office on the committee members led by Engr. Dr. Stephen Ufoaroh and unveiling of terms of reference of the unit in the presence of the members of the University management led by UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone.
* Anambra State Government and the Amalgamated Union Of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, AUPCTRE, have signed an out-of-court settlement agreement over the defunct Anambra State Water Corporation. The signing which took place at the Conference Hall of the Anambra State Head of Service brought to and end over 14 years long legal battle between the two parties. In her remark after signing the agreement, the Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe, thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for having the matter resolved out of the court under his watch, as well as members of the Out-of-Court Committee on the matter and AUPCTRE leaders for their dispositions and efforts in resolving issues on the table.
* The families of Obiora Ejike and Okafor of Umuenwelum-Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State would forever be thankful to God for answering their prayers through the gift of a male child after seventeen years of childlessness in the family. Recently, family members, in-laws, friends, and relations converged at All Saints Primary School, Awka Road, Onitsha to celebrate the new baby after a dedication service in a nearby church.
Speaking to the press, the father of the baby, Ejike Gabriel Obiora a trader at Ose- Okwodu Market, Onitsha revealed that it was a tough marital journey not to have a child in his home for seventeen years of marriage.
* The spread of evangelism has taken a new dimension in the Anglican Diocese of Ogbaru, as the Bishop of the Diocese, Right Reverend Prosper Amah, has introduced sporting events as part of evangelism in the Diocese. The sporting activities, according to Bishop Amah, is part of efforts by the Diocese to bring the youths who are the future leaders of both the church and the nation closer to their creator. He said Ogbaru Diocese practices balanced evangelism, and charged youths in the Diocese to embrace the sporting activity which he tagged “Bishop Amah football tournament”, adding that the tournament is part of his desire to win more souls for Christ.
