* The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo has sought the partnership of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC on gender based issues in the state

Mrs Obinabo declared this intention when she paid an advocacy visit to the Anambra State Sector Commander of the Corps, Mrs Joyce Alexander, at the sector command headquarters in Awka.

The Commissioner represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Chinwe Achugbu explained that ahead of the International Women’s Day coming up on March 8, the Ministry is collaborating with key stakeholders for an impactful celebration aimed at ending spousal and domestic violence in families.

Welcoming the Commissioner and her entourage, Comdt. Alexander emphasized that women have an enormous role to play in the society, starting from their families.

Alexander said the FRSC will be willing to partner the ministry in sensitizing women on safe road use so they can help in educating their husbands since it has been proven that women obey traffic and safety rules more than their male counterparts.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has received award for good governance in 2024 from Vanguard Media Limited.

Soludo while receiving a team of Vanguard editors who came to present him a letter informing him of his award, promised to deliver more dividends to ndi Anambra.

Chairman of the Editorial Board of Vanguard, Ochereome Nnanna speaking during the ceremony at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, said Soludo was
chosen for the award because of his achievements since becoming the governor of Anambra State three years ago.

He listed the governor’s giant strides to include infrastructure development, particularly urban renewal, improvement in education, and most importantly, rejigging the state’s security architecture, with the setting up of Agunechemba security outfit that is now helping to drive criminals out of the state.

In his speech, Governor Chukwuma
Soludo expressed delight with the award and promised that it would spur his administration to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people. He assured that he would personally attend the award ceremony scheduled to take place at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos on April 11, 2025.

* Popular Anambra native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko, is facing a 20-year prison sentence as the Anambra State Government has brought six charges against him.

The charges, which were filed in court, include alleged involvement in money rituals, suspected ties to drug dealers, and other undisclosed offenses.

Authorities claim that Nwangwu’s activities have raised serious security concerns in the state, prompting legal action.

* The Mayor of Awka North Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Thankgod Anago has pledged robust support for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), including the establishment of corps lodges and enhanced collaboration.

Hon. Anago while speaking during a courtesy visit by corps members and officials, vowed to address accommodation challenges, sponsor key projects, and institutionalize partnerships to bolster community development and corps welfare.

The delegation led by the Representative of the State Coordinator who is also the NYSC Awka North Local government Inspector, Mr. Godwin Okoma presented Anago with a portrait, a bound copy of the NYSC Act highlighting Section 8 (mandating LGA committees), and a compendium of CDS activities in Awka North. Corps members later received logistical support funds directly from the Mayor’s office.

* Anambra State Government has handed over 42 motorcycles to the Tuberculosis, Bruli Ulcer and Leprosy Control Programme Local Government Supervisors, TBLS and their assistants in the 21 local government areas of the state.

Handing over the motorcycles donated by Global Fund to the recipients, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Obiageli Uchebo commended the supervisors and their assistants for the good jobs they are doing in the state.

Dr Obidike noted that the state goverment is desirous of giving Ndi Anambra the best health care services and thanked Global Fund for the timely donation of the motorcycles which he said will help the supervisors and their assistants to navigate through the communities in the state to ensure the eradication of the disease.

He warned them not to toy with the motorcycles as all of them will give accounts it, and would also be held responsible for any damage and theft.

The State Manager, Tuberculosis, Bruli Ulcer and Leprosy Control Programme, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu, appreciated the local government supervisors and their assistants for the laurels they have brought to the state through hardwork and dedication, urging them to double their efforts as the gesture from Global Fund will help them to do their jobs seamlessly.

* A community leader in Anambra State, Barr. Nonso Madu has again eulogised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his giant strides and unprecedented achievements in all sectors of the State economy.

Barr. Madu while speaking to Government House correspondents in Awka when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor soludo, said he personally came to thank the Governor for his continued efforts to improve the security of lives and property in Anambra State.

He thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his recent on the spot visit to assess the improving security situation in Owerre- Ezukala, Ogbunka and Umunze.

* The 2024 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Man of the Year in Anambra State, Chief Dr. Chinedu Umeadi has commended journalists for their invaluable role in society.

Umeadi made these remarks during a courtesy visit by members and stakeholders of NUJ, Anambra State Council at his home in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area.

Dr. Umeadi, a former senatorial aspirant for the Anambra Central Senatorial District, while expressing his gratitude to NUJ for finding him worthy of the prestigious award among other qualified Anambra personalities, lauded the media for their watchdog role and their efforts in keeping the public informed.

The Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, said the aim of the visit was to have a formal interaction with the NUJ Man of the Year as he was out of the country at the time of the event.

Dr. Odogwu emphasized that the visit also provided an opportunity to personally present him with the NUJ Magazine ‘The Watchdog’, as well as to formally congratulate him on the well-deserved recognition.

 

* It was a moment of outpouring of encomiums on the outgoing Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Kingsley Nwozor during the faculty’s staff award ceremony.

The award ceremony marks the last official event of Professor Nwozor as the Dean of the faculty, having served in that capacity for four years.

In a remark, Professor Nwozor appreciated the staff of the faculty for their support and contributions to the success of the faculty throughout his leadership and encouraged them to double the support for the incoming administration.

 

* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, CC Maku Olatunde in an effort to stem the tides of vandalism of Critical National ,State and Local ,Government Assets and Infrastructure and other related crimes convened a meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Tactical Commanders and Heads of Formation in the command’s determination to forestall any form of vandalism.

Maku speaking at the Tactical meeting,
maintained that the command would stand firm in the discharge of its statutory mandate in ensuring that critical asset of government including electrical installations, manhole covers, streetlights, telecommunication cables, bridge sleepers are not destroyed.

The NSCDC boss issued a warning that a manhunt has been declared by the Corps in the state to apprehend vandals of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), emphasizing that any criminal act threatening public peace and security will be dealt with decisively. He further charged Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to remain resolute and redouble efforts towards summounting the scourge of vandalism and theft of public property in Anambra State by criminals disguising as scavengers or street corner iron mongers, popularly known as “iron condemned.

* The family of the former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, has offered scholarships to indigent students of different higher institutions who are from Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The beneficiaries received the scholarship at the maiden edition of the annual Ideoko Memorial Scholarship programme.

The gesture with the slogan: “Everyone deserves a good education” was held in the honour and premises of the former Vice President in Oko.
