# The aspirant for Idemili North/ South Federal Constituency under the platform of APGA, Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu has said that women will be rewarded for their steadfastness in the party.

Iyiegbu made this statement when he hosted all the women leaders in idemili south at his home in Oba, stating that there will be a massive empowerment for women and youths in the federal constituency.

Speaking further, Ike Cubana said, Iyiegbu’s family lives a life of selfless service to the people and humanity in general, adding that women are not just part of the project but in the forefront.

# The Headmistress of Udoka Nursery and Primary School, Awka, Mrs Stella Asiegbu, has described sports as a vital ingredient for the development of children.

The Principal who disclosed this during the occasion of the school’s inter-house sports competition and send-off ceremony, said while academic work sharpened the mind, physical activities strengthened the body and built character.

Urging the pupils to continue giving their best by running with determination and supporting their teammates, the Headmistress reminded them that victory was not only in coming first but in trying their best and always respecting their teachers and officials.

# Six hundred primary and junior secondary school teachers from the 21 local government areas in Anambra State have undergone a three-day seminar on green schools and climate change intervention

The training organized by the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, (ASUBEB) was held in Awka.

The Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, in her address, explained that the programme was designed to empower head teachers, principals, and education managers with the requisite knowledge and tools to effectively mainstream climate change education into the teaching and learning process,

Nwadinobi, expressing optimism that the knowledge gained through the training would be cascaded to their respective schools, local government areas, and zones, thereby strengthening the state government’s resolve to nurture environmentally conscious learners who will contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.

# The Bridge4Scale Digital Innovation Hub has concluded its digital acceleration programme in Awka, to strengthen digital transformation across the Southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Thuweba Diweni, the head of the Digital Transformation Centre, Nigeria, observed the importance of digital capability, while also noting Nigeria’s efforts in enhancing digital growth and creating opportunities for local talents at continental and global levels.

Dr. Diweni, who acknowledged the European Union’s support for the framework, reiterated that the support had strengthened DIH towards the pursuit of sustainable and scalable digital growth.

At the event, the Southeast Digital Maturity Report was unveiled. This data-driven report, conducted by Bridge4Scale DIH, revealed gaps in skills, infrastructure, cybersecurity awareness, and other critical aspects of the digitization process in the Southeast.

# Four women were killed and nine persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road crash involving multiple vehicles on Friday night.

The accident struck at the Agulu Lake, Nanka-Agulu road axis of the Awka–Ekwulobia Road in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State.

According to eyewitnesses near the scene, the victims were returning from a burial ceremony when the driver of the vehicle conveying them lost control while descending towards the narrow bridge and plunged into the crash.

One of the eyewitnesses said, “The driver of the vehicle was descending the road when the vehicle failed brakes and he lost control, thereby plunging into the crash, killing some people, mostly women, instantly and injuring others.

# The Bishop on the Niger, Anglican Communion, Anambra State, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo, has called on Christians to embrace a deeper, more meaningful observance of the Lenten Season by fasting not only from food and drinks but also from worldly desires and sinful habits.

Delivering his homily at the Calvary Chapel, GRA, Onitsha, Bishop Nwokolo emphasized that God is more concerned about inward transformation rather than outward religious display.

Nwokolo warned that unchecked desires often pushed people beyond the bounds of reason, leading to numerous atrocities in society.

The Bishop urged Christians to use the Lenten period to reassess their lives, align their priorities with God’s will, and lay up treasures in heaven rather than on earth.
‘As you draw near to God, He will draw near to you. Humility on your part will make God lift you,’ he stressed.

He further clarified that fasting should not be limited to abstaining from food alone but should include denying oneself other bodily attractions and pleasures.

# Justice O. M. Anyachebelu of the Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka has convicted and sentenced Engineer Nnaemeka Nwawka, managing director, Orient Petroleum Resources Plc, and Sage Nebefeife Foundation, to 14 years imprisonment each for stealing, conversion and gratification to the tune of N25billion.

They were jailed after being found guilty of ten-count charges bordering on stealing, conversion and gratification.

Count one of the charges stated that in April 21st December, 2012 in Anambra State, Nwawka converted to his personal use the aggregate sum of N82,856,934 (Eighty Two Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty Six Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty Four Naira) only which sum was transferred from Vhelbherg International Limited company account domiciled in Standard Chartered Bank account No. 0000777216 into the account of Sage Nebeife Foundation Domiciled in First Bank account No. 2017452111.”

# It was a moment of pride and gratitude as the 1999 Set of the Department of Banking and Finance, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, returned to their alma mater to empower students with laptops and financial support for tuition.

The colourful presentation ceremony, held at the CIBN Hall of the University, saw the alumni donate laptops to students across all levels of the Department. In addition, cheques were presented to indigent students to enable them pay their school fees for the current academic session.

The gesture, described by many as timely and impactful, drew commendation from staff and students alike, with hopes expressed that other graduating sets would emulate the initiative.

Presenting the items on behalf of the alumni, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Francis O. Nwankwo, in conjunction with the Head of the Department of Banking and Finance, Prof. Gideon K. Ezu, applauded the 1999 Set for remembering their roots and investing in the future of the Department.
