# The Anambra State Chairman, Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Comrade Joseph Chinedu Nwabueze, has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo, and the heads of security agencies in the State, to begin to enforce the Anambra State Taxes, Levies and Presumption Law 2025.
Nwabueze maintained that the enforcement end economic sabotage meting against his members by haulage fee collectors across federal roads in the State.
The Chairman, who made the call in a media briefing in Awka, lamented the effects of the multiple haulage imposed on his members, saying if nothing is urgently done by the authorities to end this, his association would take an industrial action.
Nwabueze described imposition of multiple haulage on his members in various entering points into the state and at the points of offloading as not only extortion and double taxation, but also robbery which he argued, contravene extant laws in the country.
# Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi , school of nursing and midwifery went on a peaceful protest about the outrageous increment of their school fees from ninety thousand naira(₦90,000.00) to five hundred and eighty thousand naira(₦580,000.00).
They are also protesting about the poor states of their hostels and their living conditions, despite the outrageous sum they pay for the compulsory hostel accomodations.
In the face on changes in economic realities, increment in prices of things is always unavoidable, but over five hundred percent (500%) increase in school fees is outrageous.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo is poised to make Anambra the leading skill hub destination centre, with a target of raising youth millionaires through the “One Youth, Two Skills” entrepreneurship programme.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, stated this while addressing beneficiaries of the mentorship training for heads of cooperatives in Onitsha.
Commissioner Aghamba, who spoke on the essence of effective mentorship in consolidating solutions targeted at empowering beneficiaries with expertise that will strengthen their business ventures, appreciated relevant partners for their sustainable collaboration.
Explaining mentorship as a vital component of the skill programme, the facilitator, Dr. Rita Melifonwu, who commended the commitment of the Commissioner to achieving the mandate, noted that the training programme is fundamental in providing ideas, expertise, and guidance to expand businesses, and identified the new federal government tax law as part of its focus.
# The Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde, a legendary figure in Nigerian football, who passed away at 88.
Chief Iloenyosi in a condolence message made available to the media described Coach Onigbinde’s demise as a significant loss to Nigerian football.
The ANSFA Chairman recalled Onigbinde’s notable achievements, including leading the Super Eagles to the 2002 FIFA World Cup and securing silver medals at the 1984 African Cup of Nations. “He was an icon, and his contributions to Nigerian football will never be forgotten,” Chief Iloenyosi said.
# The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, says Governor Chukwuma Soludo has impacted all constituencies across the state through various development projects within his first term in office.
Rt. Hon. Udeze made the remark during plenary when the House passed a resolution commending the Governor for the award and commencement of the dualization of the Magazine G.R.A – 3-3 – Otuocha Expressway, described as a landmark infrastructure intervention in Onitsha North and Anambra State in general.
The motion, sponsored by the member representing Onitsha North Constituency One, highlighted that the Magazine G.R.A – 3-3 – Otuocha Expressway serves as a critical arterial road linking the commercial hub of Onitsha with the densely populated 3-3 axis and surrounding communities.
According to the lawmaker, the road has, over the years, suffered severe deterioration, traffic congestion, flooding, and safety challenges, which have negatively affected economic activities and increased travel time for residents, traders, and commuters who rely on the route daily.
He observed that repeated calls by residents, transport unions, business groups, and community leaders for the rehabilitation and expansion of the road underscored its strategic importance to urban mobility and economic growth in Onitsha North and the state at large.
# The women wing “Radiant Group” in Oba Estate has endorsed Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu, for Idemili North/South Federal Constituency seat under the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA).
The endorsement which took place at Oba during their annual meeting also coincided with the International Women’s Day, was witnessed by stakeholders and party executives.
Speaking during the event, the women leader of the RADIANT group, Madam LadyStar said, Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu has shown capacity, supported youths and women in the federal constituency, stating that Ike Cubana has always advocated for the empowerment of women.
She stated that Ike Cubana is committed, resilient, focused, and consistent politician, noting that Chief Iyiegbu who was the Chairman of Governor Soludo’s re-election campaign in idemili south will make a good representative of the federal constituency.
Responding, Chief Iyiegbu appreciated the RADIANT group for their support, maintaining that his intention is to serve the people and bring Federal Government closer to them by attracting projects.
He advised idemili North/South Federal Constituency to register in the ongoing APGA membership, and voter’s card registration exercise so that they will participate in the upcoming elections.
# The Local Government Chairman of Njikoka. Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, received the Njikoka contingent and the trophy won at the Anambra State Solution Sports Initiative (ANSSI) competition
Receiving the team, at the Njikoka Local Government Headquarters, on Tuesday,
the Mayor commended the students for their dedication, discipline, and excellent performance, noting that their victory has brought pride and honour to the people of Njikoka Local Government Area.
Ononiba also appreciated the coaches, teachers, and officials whose commitment contributed to the outstanding achievement recorded by the team.
In his speech, the Njikoka Committee Chairman, Onyekachu Chijioke (ASSDC), who led the team, expressed gratitude to the Mayor for his continued support towards youth and sports development in the local government.
# The Anambra State Police Command has continued with its ongoing administrative and operational activities aimed at strengthening professionalism within the Command.
As part of these activities, the Command, commenced the training and orientation of newly decorated Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP).
The training is designed to equip the officers with the knowledge, leadership skills, and responsibilities required of senior officers within the Force.
The programme focuses on areas such as leadership and command responsibility, ethical policing and discipline, operational management, mess induction, and other necessary police duties expected of a senior officer.
