* Anambra First Lady Mrs. Nonye Soludo has commended World Health Organization (WHO) for its commitment to stronger health partnerships with the state, including its active involvement in the first phase of free cervical cancer screening and treatment. Anambra governor’s wife In her remarks when she received representatives of WHO and staff of the state’s Ministry of Health at the Governor’s Lodge, Awawbia,

explained that the major aim of her breast cancer mitigation programme is to help women deal with the threat of the dangerous disease through early detection. Mrs Soludo also applauded WHO for affirming support for the planned breast cancer mitigation programme, which she is championing, and for also agreeing to support the inclusion of prostate cancer screening in the same programme. 

* A one day sensitization and awareness workshop on the use and importance of soil in agriculture and environment have ended with a call for all to react positively to soil to avoid degredation. The workshop was organized by Nigerian Institute Of Soil Science, Anambra State Chapter in collaboration with the Department of Soil Science and Land Resources’ Management, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. It targeted higher school students and first year students of the department with the sole aim of exposing them to the career opportunities in soil sciences.

* Venerable Ikechukwu Joseph Egbuonu a Priest in Anambra State has been elected Bishop of Oji River Diocese in Enugu State. Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, made the announcement of Egbuonu’s election as Bishop alongside Venerable Owen Ukafia of the Diocese of Uyo; Ven Nuhu Yohannato of the Diocese of Kastina and Ven Matthew Tamunotari Ogaze of Diocese of Ogbia, recently at Church of Nigeria in Delta State. Ndukuba urged members of the Church to pray and support the newly elected Bishops and their families, as they went into their new places of assignment after consecration.

*  What would have been better described as tragedy was averted in Anambra State as residents of a four-storey building escaped unhurt, following the collapse of four overhead tanks in the building. The incident, which happened in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of the State, was said to have occurred at about 9.pm on Monday, when some of the residents were already asleep while others were about to. According to sources, the loud noise resulting from the collapse quaked the building, making the fear-gripped residents to run out and flee for their dear lives, including those who were previously asleep.

* Executive Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi and some officials of the ASUBEB have been invited to explain the anomalies by ICPC over sharing of N6.7B Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC projects to government officials and cronies. Also, other anti-graft agencies and the office of the Anambra State Auditor General have invited ASUBEB for questioning on the ugly developments in the award of contracts.

* The Anambra state government has  re-emphasized its commitment to eliminating all forms of touting activities and illegal collection of levies in the state.

The Managing Director, Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere stated this when a group of commercial bus drivers from Onitsha paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Awka. Addressing the group, the OCHA Brigade boss thanked them for speaking with one voice and made it known that the state government is resolute to eradicate all forms of illegalities in the state and promote easy of doing business and assured them that the command will be on surveillance round the clock in order to outsmart the antics of illegal revenue collectors in the state .

* Anambra Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne has clear the air on why the election of Urum Development Union in Awka North Local Government Area of the State was nullified. Nwabunwanne while speaking in an interview, debunked all the allegations against him describing them as false, witch-hunt, sponsored content and fabricated tissues of lies cooked up to tarnish his image and square up the people of Urum Community with him.

Going specific, the Commissioner explained that the election which held in December was marred with violence, to the extent that there were gunshots that culminated to someone losing his sight with one of his eyes due to weapon attacks and fights that cast doubts on the credibility of the election, against the weekend media publications alleging that the election was violence-free. 

* The Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor has been conferred the “Pillar of Moral Education Award” by the Chaplain Corps Policing Explorers (CHAPOL), Anambra State Command. The event which was held at the Bishop’s Conference Hall in the Diocesan Catholic Secretariat, Awka, was also an opportunity for CHAPOL to interact with the Bishop and to seek further support from the government and other well-spirited individuals. While interacting with the Bishop, the Anambra State Commandant of CHAPOL, Mr. Joseph Ekwunife, who led the group, said that CHAPOL had always relied on the support of their Patrons, Fellows and Partners, to do her work of eradicating moral decadence and other social vices among the students of government secondary schools in Anambra State.

* A horrible video has surfaced on the social media, showing suspected anti-touting officials maltreating man to near death in Anambra State. While it has not yet been ascertained whether the maltreaters were members of the Anambra State Special Anti-touting Squad (SASA) or another team, the video shows one of them dressed in mufti, carelessly hitting the victim with a short pestle. He repeatedly hit him the pestle on his ankle and other bony parts of his body, including his chest, while his colleague videoed the victim as he was rolling on the ground, helplessly crying and begging them to allow him to explain — a repeated appeal they didn’t give any attention to.
